Discovered that the lanyard I had been given and was using had a magnetic clasp. As careful as I was with it...my card kept acting up.

Now I've had the clasp changed and no more problems.

We are doing the pre days in Prague. My grandparents immigrated from Czecholslovakia and really want to revisit there.

We are looking at the same cruise (Romantic Danube) on AMA for next year. I see you went in September -- when did you book? Do you think I'm to late to book for Sept 2016? Did you use a TA? How about air arrangements -- any problems?

Found it interesting that you are from Sterling Heights. We are doing our first river cruise next September with 3 other couples. We are from Shelby Township and Macomb Township. We reserved our cruise on July 31, 2015 for Sept 25. We booked AMA Romantic Danube thru a travel agent and were lead to believe cabins for 4 couples were scarce. We had preferred to travel a little earlier in September. We are waiting to book our air until we can check pricing on our own.

How did you handle money? Use ATMs? Credit card?

Did you shop?? Thoughts about buying some Czech crystal.

Any tips/ experience along these lines??

Yes, this certainly helps. It's so nice that you are willing to answer any questions. AND I have at least one more.

Was there additional expense for the optional tours that you refer?

How were you dressed for your cruise? capris? jeans? sweater? jacket?

Did you have a balcony room? Did you use it?

Can you tell me more about the ship...food? entertainment? pool?

We are leaving tomorrow for Prague for our AmaWaterways Danube cruise. I will be curious to see who on that trip has heard of CC. I am amazed at the number on my recent ocean cruises who don't know about it!

We booked through TA and got the casino rate. Had received flyer via mail and it had a casino code on it.

Did you need to reserve Chefs table? How were your evenings spent?

Just back from AmaDolce cruise, Nuremberg to Budapest , Aug. 11-18. We were on schedule, made all ports, altho' as noted here, water levels between Regensberg and Passau the problem area. Believe me, the ships know to within a centimetre what the depths are. One evening we were told to expect some "dinging" noises from random stones thrown up from river bed during the night, especially those on "aquarium" deck. I think we had only 4 cms of clearance (2 inches). No rain until Budapest, and then some heavy downpours, after we got back to ship, fortunately. Should help levels. At least by that time the overwhelming heat was over!

Will be on a AMA Danube river cruise next September and am anxiously researching and planning.

Visited Cesky-Krumlov in 1998 and can't wait to visit again on our newly planned river cruise in Sept of 2016.

Looking for all kinds of info and hints.

Questioning whether booking air with cruiseline or independently is best.

Would appreciate any input.

Concerns about times of flights, long layovers, etc.

This was our first River cruise after many ocean cruises and it was an excellent experience. I would be happy to answer any questions about the ship, itinerary or excursions. Please feel free to ask.

If you booked air through AMA, were your flights acceptable?

I've done 7 cruises with Vantage....here's what I've learned:

 

 

Excursions: shore excursion is usually an orientation walk or a short bus ride to a nearby town or site. The optional excursions generally include a chartered bus, admission to a castle or other special place and usually includes a tour , usually also will include lunch off the ship in a restaurant or Vantage will give you "lunch money" to spend as you please. We usually do the optionals, there's not that many, and we've never been disappointed. You are free to join the included excursion or go out on your own, but I would suggest taking the orientation walk because it will show you where everything is, including how to get back to the ship, which could be important.

We went to Atlantis using Comfort Suites, which we paid for with points. There were no extra fees once we checked in though I think this depends on your credit card (we have Chase Sapphire)

Did you use Chase Sapphire points or Comfort Suites points?
