  1. Lamanai was outstanding but a very long day and the site is still very jungle like. Altun Ha is smaller and a shorter trip, though parts of the bus ride were bumpy. Note that on the river boats you can't leave your seat, there is no roof (so it got quite hot), and you move slowly to see flora and fauna. Neither trip had anyone as young as 4 years on the tour. That being said, both sites are well worth a visit.

  2. We've done Buenos Aires to Valpariso. Fly in to BA and give yourself two full days (3 nights) BA. Take a tour from Valpo to Santiago and spend at least one night in Santiago to see the sights.

Our trip around the Tierra del Fuego was like glass. The Chilean fjords were so beautiful it inspired us to go to Norway.

We can recommend Chile About for tour/transfer from Valpo to Santiago.

  3. Buenos Aires to Santiago Chile around Tierra del Fuego. Long flight but such a wonderful trip we're doing it again!

Rome, Rhodes, Athens, Cairo, Alexandria, Rome. Very port intensive but each port was more interesting than the last. I'd do this again in a heartbeat.

Complete transit of the Panama Canal from San Diego to Miami.

We too are tired of the Caribbean (it's nice but we aren't beach people). We've started to explore South America and wished we had done so earlier. Lots to see and since you don't change more than 1 time zone the flight, though long, doesn't seem as tiring as compared to Europe.

  4. They have accepted collared polo shirts. I've also sent t-tops and bras. All come back neatly packed. I try to do the laundry as close to the end of the cruise that I can and everything is flat and easy to pack. As for laundry bag "technique" I go for the tightly rolled method.
Never tried sending slacks. Since they don't mention them I wouldn't expect them to be included.
  5. The lines at the FLL cruise terminal to go thru immigration were the longest and slowest I've ever been on. Get off as early as possible. Personally I'd not do the 10:40 flight. I'd prefer any flight after noon but that's me. I want to "chill" my last vacation day.

  6. If you can afford the hotel or BnB rate then stay in the city. No need for a car. Boston's subway/bus system (called "the T") is safe and easy to navigate and the city is easy to walk. I live in the western 'burbs and only drive into the city in the summer, when schools are out-of-session, or on Sunday.

    What is your "reasonable" rate?

  7. I'll second 138East. Unless you have a reason to leave the city you do not need a car. Boston is walkable or you can take the T (subway/bus system). Look at http://www.mtba.com.

I live in the western 'burbs and rarely drive in the city. Parking is difficult and expensive. Schools will be in session by Sept 20th. You can take the red line to Cambridge (a very pretty ride over the Charles) and take the Red to Silver Line to the port.

Hilton Financial is near the harbor, Hilton Back Bay is near Fenway Park and the Charles River. Either location is good.

  8. Don't miss the Immigration Museum in Halifax at Pier 21. Leave the ship and turn left. There is a lovely boardwalk you can take from the Immigration Museum, past your ship, to the Maritime Museum. Maritime Museum has a small Titanic exhibit and an exhibit/film about the explosion in Halifax Harbor in 1917 (in thanks for the help the city of Boston sent, each year the city of Halifax sends a lovely Christmas tree).
