  1. Well done to all on Journey, it must have been a logistical challenge for you, but what a great evening, lovely food and very interesting entertainment. I cannot get my pics to upload on the ships connection, but when I can I will share.

This is a lovely cruise and we are enjoying every minute of it, even if it is so wet today.

I fear I am heading for my 5th indoor white nights in a row, unless you can all persuade the sun gods to visit Sri Lanka tonight. Weather to now has been fantastic so I suppose we are due the odd rain day.

Looking forward to hearing all about the Azamazing Evening as ours is in Cochin next April. Enjoy the rest of your cruise and we eagerly await your review!

  2. Hi Edinburgher

I think if my memory serves me correctly that they are wooden folding upright chairs which may recline. I don't think they had footrests as a steamer chair would have, they certainly weren't loungers, but unfortunately I didn't take a photo of them.

Similarly on the pool deck, they have plastic loungers on most of the deck, but again the more upright chairs by the windows rather than loungers like Azamara.

Have a good cruise, I hope you will post an 'experience' comparison with Azamara on your return.

    Hi Edinburgher

A further update, my wife has found the following Blog that does indeed show Steamer chairs on the Adonia, my apologies for misleading you in this respect:o

I do notice on the Blog that the sun loungers on the pool deck differ from those that we saw on the ship this year, so I hope that the steamer chairs are still there for you.

  3.

We were concerned to read that Adonia only has "chairs" rather than loungers on the promenade deck. We are hoping that you meant "steamer type" chairs as apposed to upright "dining style" chairs as we were hoping to spend as much time as possible on the Promenade deck watching the sea and hopefully enjoying warm sunny weather.

    Please could you clarify?

  4. We really do not seem to be getting anywhere on the subject of excursions on this cruise for the day in Phuket. The published excursions for Phang Nga Bay and Sea Cave Adventure show the length of time as 8 hours. The ship does not arrive in Phuket until 1300 hours. The narrative mentions a late lunch after the sea part of the excursion and various other factors do not add up. It would be impossible to see any of the countryside in the dark. I seems to me that the narrative was taken from a 2013 tour in Phuket where the ship arrived about or prior to 9am. I spoke to the UK office who also reckoned that this was the case but were unable to help. The very nice gentleman tried to put me through to the excursion team - and the phone then went dead! Bill, I should be very grateful if you could ask the Miami team about this. Many thanks - Pam

Bill, we have also been trying to get confirmation from Miami on this subject. Despite posts on CC and several emails to Miami, no one has chosen to respond so your help would be greatly appreciated. We seem to be 'invisible' to them! Thank you :)

  5. What do you mean by pegs that clip on?

To solve the problem of it wrapping around me, I just moved it way out of the way...trying to remember if I had it all on the outside. I put down a towel to absord the water that hits the floor when I shower.

I think what Readinfast means is what we in the UK call 'clothes pegs' for hanging up our washing to dry. I presume he/she means that they will act as weights to keep the curtain straight.

I'm also confused by the term ' European shower' used by sfvoyage in a previous post - not sure what is meant by this, I thought we all use a shower the same way!:)

  6. Reading all these posts about the shower dimensions and clingy shower curtains makes me wonder what people are doing in the shower:eek:

I'm no lightweight but on all the voyages I've done on Azamara, i've never experienced any of the problems in the shower other people experience!

  7. I have two cruises booked directly with Azamara but no email received - wonder when it will crawl into my mailbox if at all

Maybe they aren't so keen on sending emails with updates and offers to UK guests! Yet another difference between us and our fellow guests from the US.

  8. 'We would be remiss if we did not tell you that effective January 4, 2014, the current 25% savings on Land Discoveries will no longer be available. Guests already booked on 2014 voyages will still be eligible. And if you book before January 3, 2014, the 25% savings will still be yours. '

Well ... cant say I'm happy with this development ... since I just booked my first cruise with Azamara. I guess I will need to know what I want to do in May 2014 by January 3 2014

    :(

Luckily we're already booked for 2014 but this isn't particularly good news. Imagine the 'free tours' will be walking tours but we shall see.

You were lucky to get an email from Azamara - despite registering several times for emails from Azamara, we never get any.

  9. Hi Bill, we appreciate you have been unwell and probably lots of things are on hold whiile you come to full recovery, so we apologise in advance for this push for an answer.

You were going to ask the hotel team back in June, and yet we still have received no answers from them via you on this. We would very much like to know the answer, as we have a big birthday coming up for my wife in December on Journey and she will be hugely dissapointed if we cant find bubbles on board to celebrate this milestone. Any answers to this please would be very much appreciated.

Hope you are feeling much better and your recovery is progressing well.

    Warmest regards,

    David and Wendy:)

    Davewen

Of course as previous cruisers with Azamara you will presumably be getting your complementary bottle of bubbly in your room on embarkation, however I did notice on our last cruise this had been downgraded from a champagne to a sparkling wine.

We didn't actually open ours, it is in the fridge at home, such was the quality of the complementary wines, drinks on the new(ish) more inclusive offerings that we didn't feel the need to open the bubbly!

  10. When we sailed from Nice we went a couple of days before and stayed at the Hotel Suisse which was in a lovely position overlooking the bay but also rather expensive. However, it was within walking distance of the port so, provided you don't mind wheeling your case for a half hour stroll, you can easily walk it. On another occasion we stayed at the more reasonable Hotel Grimaldi which was very nice with a good breakfast included. It was a 5 minute walk from the Promenade des Anglais and you could also walk from there but it would take a bit longer. There is also a good bus service. We didn't use it to get to the port but it's very easy to get a bus from the airport along the Promenade des Anglais.

  11. Hi Bill - good to see you 'back on board' and hope you have a speedy recovery.

We've been trying to find out for some time the details of the Azamazing Evening that, according to the downloadable brochure, is at the Blue Elephant in Phuket starting at 5.30pm. As the ship does not arrive in Phuket until 1pm and all the excursions offered do not get back until after this time (in fact the one we want to do gets back at 9.45), we can't help thinking some adjustment of the itinerary is required. The excursion timings can only really work if the ship arrives in Phuket early morning. Despite emails via the Captains Club and their best endeavours to get a response from Miami, no information has been forthcoming, so anything you can find out would be appreciated.

  12. This puzzles me a little. If one wants to be sure of his or her assigned stateroom, one should book a specific stateroom and not a guarantee. With a guarantee, one takes one's chances. That's the way it works.

My reasoning is that we were given a cabin number, which we were happy with but the opportunity arose to change to a different one, what I cannot understand is why we no longer have a cabin number!

This is the first time we have booked a guarantee cabin as normally we pre book a specific cabin number. I agree with Malcliz, there seems be be yet again one rule for US and another for UK customers in this case.

However, at the end of the day, at least the onboard experience is exemplary:)

  13. You should be so lucky, we booked a guarantee cabin cruise for next June, the 7 Night Crete, Adriatic & Venice Voyage , a cabin number was allocated fairly quickly (V3) at the front of the ship, we managed to get this changed to a V3 towards the rear through the Captains Club, then strangely it disappeared about 3 weeks ago. Despite our best efforts through both our TA and the Captains Club we still have no room reallocation! All we can find out is that 'it is being dealt with at Miami'.

This is getting really frustrating as this cruise is our special Ruby Anniversary holiday which coincides with the actual anniversary date. It's a shame that as is often the case, the shoreside operation does not match the onboard experience.

  14. Hello. I am new to Azamara and curious if their will be any Azamazing nights on the 2014 Quest sailings of 6/21 and 6/28. Thanks.

On the 28th June 2014 cruise the Azamazing Evening is showing under shore excursions as being a "Crete Waterfront Street Party - E907" on the 29th June. We have registered to attend but perhaps it will change when all the Evenings are finalised at the end of August.

We are also keen to get confirmation of the Evening (and excursions) for our Spice Route cruise on the Journey in April as there are most definitely 'timing issues' with that one.

  15. Thanks for starting this thread Andy.

We are on the Spice Route cruise on 3rd April 2014. The Azamazing Evening has been provisionally set for 6th April in Phuket departing at 5.30pm. However, the ship does not arrive there until 1pm and all ship's excursions get back after 5.30pm when the Azamazing Evening starts (except the Elephant Ride which gets back at 5.30). We don't want to miss the evening at the Blue Elephant or the ship's tour we planned to do there which is eight and a half hours long. This in itself is odd as it will be dark for part of it! Can't help thinking either the ship's tours or the Azamazing Evening will not be very well attended. An early arrival in Phuket would solve the problem but obviously isn't possible or they would be doing it!

  16.

As it is, the only option on Azamara to have a standard glass of sparkling wine (without paying ludicrous additional prices) is to wait for the 'celebratory' events to be able to treat oneself to a half measure of warm flat 'bubbles' that's been sat on a tray for an hour.

At the risk of extending this thread even further, I and my wife can honestly say that we have NEVER experienced 'half measure of warm flat 'bubbles' ' at any of the celebratory events on the many Azamara cruises we have been on. This also includes the welcome drink on boarding. It has always been well filled and chilled, and always been available in copious amounts. I also agree with Kathy9. Over to you Andy!

  17. Thanks for your continued efforts Bill. We appreciate that the Azamazing Evenings are not finalised yet and look forward to confirmation (or otherwise) of the Azamazing Evening on 6th April in Phuket - the ship does not arrive there until 1pm and all ship's excursions get back after 5.30 when the Azamazing Evening starts, according to the Shore Excursion brochure. We don't want to miss the evening at the Blue Elephant or the ship's tour we planned to do there which is eight and a half hours long! This in itself is odd as it will be dark for part of it .

  18. I suspect many people will be and have been disappointed by the drinks debacle, but we may never know just how many.

I'd really like an official watchdog or media source to investigate this, so we can find out exactly what was said and who said it, rather than speculating.

Tim, isn't it about time you let go of this topic? You had a great cruise with Azamara, do you still need to harp on about the All Inclusive/More inclusive advertising in the UK? Let it go please.

  19. Hi, could someone tell me what an open passage certificate is please??

Its a pre cruise booking for £75 each which gets you an additional discount of a future cruise - dependent on length of the cruise and a reduced deposit (because you've already paid Azamara £75)

We always take one out when we cruise with Azamara - it makes us book another!:)

  20. Hello Tim,

I am enjoying your thoughts and your great pictures.

But on this and other threads I am picking up little differences between the Journey and the Quest. I have been on the Quest 8 times returning from my last trip with them last month. I have not yet sailed on Journey.

All of the included wines were available on Quest and you could have whichever one you wanted at any time. I had a favourite red and had it virtually every day wherever I was dining.

Enjoy the rest of your cruise

    Hazel

Hello Hazel, having sailed on both, the differences are very minor and don't detract from the overall experience. For example on our last cruise on the Journey, they didn't provide the 'Energizer' at breakfast unlike on the Quest. Having spoken to the restaurant manager on our first day, he emailed the Quest for the recipe and it appeared on the Smoothie bar the next day and every day thereafter. How's that for service!
