  1. We've done an inside cabin with the pulldown berths no problem; however, we just have 1 daughter. So we didn't need both of them. The way we set it up was on bed pulled down and the two others push together in queen configuration under it. We set this up on the side away from the entrance so we would have a little more waking room. If you are traveling with both down, it may get a little more cozy and I don't know if you will be able to push the bottom beds together in any way. I would say we still had a great time even with the cozy quarters :) we even watched movies and hung out in the room. And if it means cruising or not... Take the pulldowns!! Our daughter loved the cruise! Truly the cozy room was not an issue for us!

We have a boy and a girl, so it is good for them not to be on a sofa bed like Royal Caribbean have, but I am not sure my husband is so delighted at the prospect!! ;)

We cruised years ago with another couple and we each had two kids. We kept our beds as twins, and they pivoted their queen bed so the head of the bead was right under the pull down tucked into the corner.

(does that make sense?) It gave a bit more room and seemed to work for them. (although I'm not too sure their cabin steward liked making the bed every morning!!):o

This sounds interesting... I guess you have to see it to understand...

We have also looked at a Balcony cabin as this cruise is a 2 week long cruise. Do people have experience if the balcony cabin is the same configuration if travelling with 4 people? Thanks! :)

  2. All previous cruises have been an ocean view cabin with my 2 kids, using the 2 upper berths, this time it is with our teenage son only. We have never had a balcony before due to cost or none available for 4. We managed to upgrade to a balcony as they were cheaper than an OV for some reason. We also managed to get 2 classic drinks packages with the upgrade, though lost our $100 OBC, so delighted. We as usual fly to Southampton with Flybe, this time Glasgow, but last time Edinburgh as much cheaper, we pay approx. £99 return each, and saves time and petrol costs.

Really looking forward to trying Celebrity, as was getting same old, same old with Royal. Will of course write review on return in July.

Hadn't really thought of flying... May need to look into that! The thought of spending all day driving isn't fun - we are about 2.5 hours north of Glasgow!! Inverness is actually our closest airport. Maybe I could get a flight to Southampton from there?! Will check it out.

The travel agent really tried to sell me Celebrity - she said the Eclipse was her favourite ship ever...!

Will be really interested to read your review - especially to see how your teenage son enjoys it. My teenage daughter is looking forward to it but hates the clubs etc so I hope 2 weeks isn't too long on board. We have never done more than a week before!

  3. Last year I too looked at RCL(AOS) V CC(Eclipse). At the time RCCL was a little cheaper, but then it was 2 nights less. The ports were more or less the same so I decided to go for the newer ship and having never sailed with CC we were keen for a change. I booked an inside for my family even though we had never done that before as the prices were very expensive, but the cabin size was more or less the same as OV, so took the risk.

We sail our Baltic cruise end June, and last month because the prices were coming down, we upgraded to an obstructed balcony for not too much more.

So, you could book the inside and keep checking......

Yes - that's what I'm doing. In my quest I have realised that some companies honour the price drop and others don't, so I am negating the ones which don't in the hope that I might get a better cabin.

How old are your kids? Are you going to do a review of how you found it? Would love to read that - especially from a fellow Scot... How you find the travelling to Southampton etc!

I see they are now offering free drinks package or free parking deals for this year so I am finding it tough to believe that the cabins for next year are full...

  4. Hi folks...

Which ship would you choose if you have had experience of both lines? I am trying to decide between Celebrity Eclipse and Brilliance of the Seas.

One is 14 nights (Celebrity) and one is 12 nights (Brilliance) missing out Brussels and Berlin.

There is not much difference in price as we are a family of 4 and need a cabin which sleeps 4 which already (for July next year) seem very few and far between!! I would have to wait list for Celebrity believe it or not..... :eek:Because the price is quite expensive, we are going for an inside cabin for the first time ever. I hope we don't regret it...

    Any help gratefully received

  5. Thanks for your honesty - been on enough ferries to last me a lifetime... Prefer a ship myself!!

Typical - get a great cruise price and the flights blow it out of the water - over £1000 from Scotland...

(just back from South Wales ironically! - rained as much there as it has in Scotland for the last 2 months!!)

Will just keep looking... your help is appreciated - thanks!!

  6. Hi there!

Never cruised on MSC before but found a great deal this afternoon which would take us on MSC Armonia next month.

The problem is - as it is last minute (and the school half term!) the flight prices are through the roof...

The best I can find are with Ryanair but don't arrive into TFS until 5pm. Is this cutting it too fine do you think...

Not purchasing through the cruiseline or TA as they are too expensive.

Thanks for your thoughts on this...

  7. Fart spray for the bathroom and booze. I would say birth control but my wife ate wedding cake 18 years ago so that took care of that problem.;):D:p

    Actually LOL'd at this!!!

More than one pair of walking shoes or sandals for walking around. Your shoes can get wet or a strap break, or just get uncomfortable day after day. I learner this the hard way. I had plenty of dress shoes, but only one pair of walking around shoes. Big mistake.

Yup - I agree - my brand new ones broke on our Med cruise last year - definately take more than one pair!!
