I just wanted to stop in and say hello. I haven't been on in a few months. Wife & I purchased our first new home we closed last month on the 21st and moved in on the 26th. Been very busy getting stuff situated before we go on our cruise in 15 days :D
Dana, Congrats! You will enjoy the Majesty. We were on it for my big 30 a few years ago. Since then it was refurbished so I'm sure it is better now then it was when we sailed. Have fun!
Happy Sailings to all!
Hi all
Just about ready to leave for the drive down to Harwich before we set sail on Sunday.
So thought I'd pop in and say hi. Only 2 more sleeps before we go, everything packed and ready to be put straight into the car, although I wish it wasn't because now I have free time on my hands and I'm getting impatient and so excited that I'm beginning to drive Anne crazy.
Congratulations on your new home, and Dana congratulations on your degree.
Happy sailing everyone will post when we get back.

Hi everyone,
The SS Uganda was my first cruise, I think it was about 1969, we flew to Venice and joined the ship there. Can't remember many people except Collette Higham and at that time we became good friends unfortunately as we grew up and got married we lost touch so if anyone knows her tell her get intouch with me! If I remember correctly we went to Venice, Athens, Santorini and had to go up on a donkey, Egypt, Tangiers, Malta, Gibraltor and then sailed back into Liverpool. I had a great time and have wanted to go on another cruise ever since, but circumstances of one kind or another have never let me......till now.....Am about to embark on my very first life time dream to Scandinavia and Russia...only 10 days to go....can't wait.
My name was Vicci Thompson and the school was Roscoe Common in Liverpool. If anyone can recall me or the cruise please get intouch.. you can email me at vicci12@btinternet.com

Liverpool Lass, you have a contact here in Canada too. If you head this way, post it here & I'll give you contact info.
Mnms...Cotswolds eh? I lived in Cheltenham before I emmigrated to Canada. Also lived in Dorset 'till I was 11. Used to go to Sandbanks for family vacations. I'm sure you know that area.
Hi Pussycat
The same reply that I have just posted to Mel goes for you too!

nope not sorry I asked, I find myself admiring your spirit!! Tell you what,if you do a transatlantic in 2011 come to New York, we can pick you up and you could stay with us before you head out! We live in NJ so only 30 mins from NY by Train, or 2hours to Washington by train!!!
Where in UK do you live? I was born in the cotswolds but grew up in Bournemouth
Mel
Hi Mel
Live on the other side of the River Mersey to Liverpool in Port Sunlight. If you contact me on my email addess maybe we could build up a friendship before we cross the Atlantic.
You guys also have friends here in the UK and will be more than welcome to stay here and you will also have the means to travel around and explore the UK.

So why can u only cruise from the UK???
Hi Mel
Got myself a couple of brain tumors, not really a problem but I'm not allowed to fly for more than 3hours. Something to do with pressure, although I have flown to Greece (4hrs) but it makes me really sick and I end up losing my sight for a couple days and the doctors have warned me that chances of me losing my sight completely is very high and it might even cost me my life. But as I'm not ready for either of those I don't want to chance the risk especially as I have still got so much to do and money still on my credit card. As I said its not a problem and thats the reason Anne & I bought a brand new motor home last year, I enjoy driving and there is so much of the beautiful UK countryside I haven't explored yet. We are thinking about sailing across the Atlantic and maybe touring the US & Canada by train in 2011 so if the costing is ok we might even take a cruise to Alaska while we're there. We'll just have to wait & see. I bet your sorry you asked now!!

No but you will have a fantastic time!! We sailed the Island princess last year!! Are you sailing from Vancouver or Seattle. We sailed from Vancouver and just LOVED it..It was fantastic..Highlights were, helicopter over glaciers with a walk on one, whitewater rafting trip, white pass railwoad trip!! Enjoy and take your camera with plenty of backup, you will not be disappointed!!
Now this sounds like a fantastic cruise, Wish it was one I could do, but unfortunately I can only sail from UK.

Hi Mel
We're sailing with RCCL on The Jewel of the Seas. Calling at Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Estonia and Russia. It's good for us as it sails from England so we don't have to worry about how much luggage we can take. Will write you a full report when we get home!

Just passing some time at my desk. It's a beautiful spring day here in South Florida I'm so ready to be out of here but alas we have 36 day to sail so cruise critic is all I can do to get my daily fix. LL are you packed yet?
Well it's certainly not a beautiful spring day in Liverpool it is cold with heavy rain & strong wind so I'm more than ready to get out of here. As for packing, I've packed re-packed and re-packed and now I have a bedroom full of clothes and cases! My daughters think I've gone insane in my old age and my poor beautiful partner has given up on me and wants to know what is wrong with just taking a toothbrush but I'm so excited I'm like a child at christmas. We are sailing on 17th May only 30 days to go yipeeeeee having said that we bought a motorhome last year so we are going up to the lake district for a week on Monday then the following week we are going to York for a couple of days so I don't really have much free time to finish getting organised.
Oops!! I seem to have started to ramble on. As far as I am aware there doesn't seem to be any other family on our cruise but maybe they just don't know about this site.
Enjoy the spring sunshine

Hello to all. We are Robin and Rita in Texas City Texas and love cruising. We haven't cruised on Olivia because, like so many others it seems, we can do multiple cruises for the price of one on Olivia. As far as being on "straight" cruises, we have never had a problem. Some of the time we go just the two of us, and other times we have had several other couples, both male and female.
I never thought I would like cruising. How boring. But after Robin and I became a couple 14 years ago she finally talked me into going and now just say the word and I am at the dock. I am semi retired and she works as the Administrator on Site at the local hospital and works doubles Saturday and Sunday and is off M thru F so we can take advantage of Carnival's 4 or 5 day trips out of Galveston and will be leaving on the April 13th 5 day. I only recently discovered Cruise Critic and an enjoying "meeting" new people. Anyone by chance doing the TA from Barcelona to Galveston 11-29-09?
Enough. I am beginning to ramble. Smooth sailing to everyone.
Hi Robin and Rita
We too have only recently found this page and we are about to embark on our first cruise. After reading all the different threads I can't wait to find out for myself what all the excitement is about. Both Anne & I have taken early retirement and if cruising is as wonderful as everyone says the only problem we can foresee is how we are going to afford keeping up the new found pastime. Oh well you only live once!!!

Packing is almost as fun as cruising ;)
Hi chrisbd1
Packed, re packed, & re packed, but there's no getting away from it no matter how hard I try, I still need to buy another case!
Enjoy your birthday trip.
Happy sailing

Hi Vicci - Out of what you've listed, we stopped in Copenhagen, Helsinki, St. Petersburg and Tallin. We did ships tours in all but St. Pete...it was just easier for us to have it all planned out and paid for ahead like that. We did walking tours in Copen. and Tallin and we went on a tour that took us by boat around Helsinki, then by bus to the church in the rock and then to the outdoor museum. We felt we picked the right tour for each and really ejoyed ourselves. I did a TON of reading on the Europe board here on CC and asked many questions over there.
This was just a regular cruise....not gay.
You are going to have a great time!
Dawn
Hi Dawn
Thanks for the reply, Some days I feel like I'm 16 again I'm getting so excited about this cruise! Other days I'm a nervous wreck because it's our first cruise and I don't want anything to spoil it. So much has happened over the last year that I'm more than ready for us to have a great time.
Where are you guys from?

Hi all
Shopping trip went well, (so much for not wanting to spend a fortune). But if cruising is as good as you all say it is I suppose I'll never have to go shopping again. All thats left is for me to pack!!!!
-
Hi LL,
I understand your dilemma, I don't do dresses of any sort. I am lucky I guess, I do look good in a tux, LOL  I have never felt out of place, always quite comfortable. I did see other "family" in dress slacks and nice blouses as well as some pretty nice pants suits. Angel looks good in dresses so it all worked out. We acted as we normally would like the str8's. We danced, took formal portraits the whole deal. We are just us, no matter where are. I mean we are not into big pda's but anyone who is enlightened and/or paid us any attention knew we were together.
AnitaMarie
Hi A & A
I think my dilema about what to wear for the formal nights is just me trying to please everyone here at home. Although I haven't worn dresses for many years I can look good in them. I have two grown daughters (36&32) who are both very petite & beautiful who keep wanting to take me shopping for cocktail dresses and I have Anne who is totally different from me, she is very quiet & shy and doesn't like fuss, where as I'm very extrovert and up for anything but she who would have heart failure if she saw me in a tux. So decision has been made for all 4 of us to go shopping and try all sorts of clothes on.
Wish me luck

Hi liverpool lass - My partner and I were on a Baltic cruise this past summer, but it was on the Carnival Splendor. For the formal nights we wore dressy pants and silky tops, no dresses. What line are you on?
Also what ports are you going to? Here are all our pics from our trip: http://community.webshots.com/user/dnjcruzin and if your interested in specific countries I can tell you what we did.
It really was our best cruise so far.
Dawn
Hi Dawn
We're sailing on the Jewel of the Sea from England on the 17th May to Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki, St. Petersburg, Tallinn and Oslo. Did you go on any of the ships tours or did you sight see alone? We have only booked a tour for St. Petersburg and not sure about the other ports. Was your Baltic cruise on a straight cruise or gay cruise?
Thanks for the advice on the attire for the formal nights.

Sorry all I pressed the wrong button. Anyone know what the formal nights on the straight cruises are like? Just don't want to spend a fortune on something I won't wear again.

First cruise, First straight cruise, first formal night, Cocktail dress Arrrrrggggghhh!!!

Hi all
Has anyone done the Scandinavia/Russia cruise, if so are here any sights that you recommended we see. This is one part of the world that I've never been too and I really don't want to miss anything.
This is also a 'straight' cruise with 3 formal nights does anyone know what they're like and have any tips for us?
