Don't worry about quad share on P&O, they could convert it to dormatories to get few extra passengers. ;);)
Jill;)
I remember on the lowest passenger deck on the Fairstar some of the cabins were for 6.
Maybe P&O could convert some of the public rooms into dormitories!

Thank you, we have been to Peru a couple of times before, 2002 and 2007, but first time we have cruised in there. done Cusco/Maccu Picchu and most of Lima, inc Gold Museum. Ship is in Callao (Port of Lima) 2 days, we are doing City tour/Indian Markets/Miraflores plus meet up with my son's Peruvian in laws and sister in laws for lunch at their house in Montericco, Lima.
Sounds great. I know somebody who recently did an overnight shore excursion to Maccu Picchu, and it was so expensive. One place that I want to visit one day.

Enjoy your cruises Les. What are you planning on doing in Peru?
-
It could be P&O's newest superliner for Australia.
Obviously HAL are building bigger ships, more passengers, bigger profit margins. Little ships don't make as much profit.
P&O could bring it here and convert some of its cabins to quad share.
-
Maybe P&O Australia will buy it, they like to buy old ships, and then call them Australia's Newest Superliner, and then sell the cruises for top dollar!
-
Very sad.
I wonder if one day if it will be a requirement that the pools have fencing around them? When you think about it they are very accessible.

Les
I would be willing to wager that the breakfast we all saw being prepared would have been "pushed/promoted" as an Aussie breakfast. And was indeed the sort of breakfast my motorhome club does every month when we go camping - Fried eggs, bacon, sausage, tomato. Things like Black Pudding, Hash Browns, eggs Benedict would never qualify in an Aussie breakfast competition.
Barry
I bet your motorhome club brekkie tastes better!

They did mention they had a big sale yesterday on tshirts etc, like a reject shop.
What I did see didn't convince me to book with P&O. They showed a bit of the kitchen and breakfast. Looked very ordinary. A big sausage, bit of tomato, soft cooked egg and sauce in the middle.

I hope they keep Radiance of the Seas here all year round. It looks like a beautiful ship, hope to sail on it one day.

Happy Australia Day to everyone. What a wonderful country we live in!

No we had it up on deck. I think they have finally realised that we aussies like to party outdoors. i would have hated to be crowded in the Theatre. :(
Did the Captain ring the bell at midnight? Yes it was crowded in the Theatre, maybe they learnt from the year we were on.
-
Did they not have NYE in the show lounge? It was so crowded in there on our cruise.

Apart from the special "bag" of laundry, items are priced individually and you fill in a laundry form like in a hotel. Prices are not that bad. They do not have like a regular bag which is then on special for $20. They do not have a single payment for all laundry for the voyage like HAL. Interesting idea. How much did it cost?
When looking at the pictures from the Solstice all I can think of is that they are cheapskates! Passengers are not to leave items unattended on balconies anyway as there is the risk of them being blown overboard.
There is a line in the shower for small items.
If being able to do your own laundry is so important to people, they should choose a different cruise line.
Our last cruise with HAL the laundry package cost $95 for 14 nights, and that was for our family of 4. I put out a bag full of the 1st day, as we had a couple of nights in Sydney beforehand. The package said no pressing, but the clothes did come back pressed, and the rest in a basket. Very good value.
-
No laundry but not overly expensive to send a bag or two to be done. I never use laundries on ships anyway - for one not part if the holiday and two not sure what was in there before mine!
How much do they charge to fill a bag?
Do they do a package where you pay a fee for the whole cruise and they do your laundry? HAL do that.

Work????? One must get their priorities in order:D:D:D
Kate just a question....What time did you check in for your cruise? we just got our Edocs today for our cruise in March and check in time is 1pm Is that the norm? I am normally going back for seconds at the buffet by then:eek:
When we cruised we were on by 11.30am, we arrived at the OPT at approx. 11am. No problem at all. We were able to go straight to our cabin and overload our hand luggage and then head to the dining room for a relaxing lunch. When you have cruised with HAL previously you are able to dine in the dining room on the first day, and get away from the crowds in the lido.
-
Was that drinks price per person or for the two of you?
-
Oh my:eek: could you imagine doing Muster Drill in that?
Maybe you could make a snowman for yourself and retreat to the inside!

I think the ship was a bit ugly inside. Some of the artworks were just pukey  I'll be posting photos of some of the more interesting pieces later.
I have never seen so many ugly chairs before in my life! :D
I think I will stick with drab ;)
Some of the colours and artwork are very odd. Maybe they got a good deal on the carpets etc. Not my taste. But HAL do do there ships differently.
I agree the Atrium is very small and a disappointment. The Atrium on the Volendam is larger. A lot of people we spoke to who have sailed on both the Oosterdam and Volendam agree the Volendam is a nicer ship.
The glass lifts are also nice on the Oosterdam.
The one big positive for us with the Oosterdam was that we could have a balcony cabin for not much more than an outside. Whereas on the Volendam as a family of four you would need to book a suite.
The lido buffet was more crowded than the Volendam, and we found that it was harder to get a seat. We hardly ate at the lido, much preferred the dining room, much quieter.

I found it so hard to find anything about this ship before we cruised.
It is almost the invisible ship!
I felt like I was joining some secret society by cruising on it ;)
I think it may be that usually "older" cruisers go on HAL cruises and they don't want others to know how good they are. :)
Oops they might come after me now!
We sailed on the Oosterdam the Xmas before, we didn't have any trouble finding information, just go to the HAL section on the boards and ask questions and you will get heaps of answers.
You probably won't find much on this section, as the ship is only new to Australia.
-
We have been on the Oosterdam and it is good, would recommend a balcony for the 4 of you, which we have had. Not much more than an outside cabin.
-
I had some Stollen on the Oosterdam 12 months ago for breakfast on Christmas, it was really nice, so much so that I asked for a second piece.
Just wondering if anyone has the recipe? I did check Joannies recipes and not on there.

I have discovered a product that is wonderful for getting rid of tummy bugs. Activated Charcoal Powder. Just dissolve a teaspoon in a glass of water, yes the water will go black. Just sip it. Activated Charcoal will pick up any bugs in your system and take it out. My daughter and myself have both recently been sick with stomach bugs, and took the powder. It worked.
I purchased the powder from a health food store.

I agree you just don't fall overboard. Very sad for the family though. According to this report the ship is returning to Sydney for a police investigation.

Where does the 4th bed fold down from the ceiling?
Also the sofa bed, does it block you from going to the bathroom?
We nearly went on a Radiance of the Seas cruise in a 4 berth cabin.
