  1. Flossie - thanks for your reply. Thank you for your advice and link. That was some thread. I read through it all. I did do a search first, but nothing came up for "door signs." If the thread you pointed out here came up, I wouldn't have had to posted. Oh well. Thank you for sharing that link. It was extremely helpful.

Thank you Hotroot! I don't see a thread link, so I wasn't sure if you were referring to another comment here.

    Papaflamingo - Thank you!

Portolan - Thank you for your reply. LOL - funny story... When we were picking our cabin for this trip, I made sure we weren't across from any upper level cabins. I knew I would be trying to take a peek any time that door was opened just out of pure curiosity. I know that is so rude, but I'm as bad as my cat!

Thank you Sheltiluv - That's great to know. Where we live, my sister says there are way too many snooty people. I don't socialize nor get out much, so I'm not too impacted. On a small ship though, I think you can't help but be impacted. So, I'm glad it's not like that on Regent.

Marq - Yes, I was thinking of just putting up a simple plaque with our name or something on it. Or maybe just two small magnets of the USMC and USCG logos. Just little indicators for our room. But, if people don't do it, we'll be fine. That's funny you kept your sign. We keep all of our travel mementos too in a box to eventually be put into some sort of scrapbook.

Alaska_bound - that's great to know that a fellow-DCLer loved Regent. It definitely ups the comfort level for us. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We are also thinking about maybe doing a DCL cruise in the 2020 or 2021. We usually do Hawaii every May with the kids. We haven't done any theme parks with the youngest yet because I hear the parks have just gotten too crowded these days. DCL is nice because there are limits to how many people can be on board. 2019 plans (Hawaii and our Regent cruise) are set, and I think I have to visit my grandmother in 2020 in Japan. So, if you go to DCL in 2021, maybe I'll see you there!

Thank you for your input Wendy the Wanderer.

    Got2cruise - Good to know.

gnome - thank you for your advice re: the holidays and special celebrations. I really just wanted it for finding my stateroom, and I don't think there are any holidays during out time onboard. Sounds like real fun when they do have those contests. And thank you re: seconding Sheltiluv's comment regarding fitting in.

Thank you again to everyone who replied with your honest opinions and advice regarding this topic.

Is there a way to close the topic since I think everything is pretty much covered?

  2. Snuggarelli -

We are curious as to what about the ship (aside from itinerary) drew you to choose Regent?

Thanks for the question, Silver Sweethearts- we saw on the US News and World Report that Regent is rated highly for best cruises for couples and best cruises for the Mediterranean. Plus, it is truly all-inclusive which we thought was pretty neat. So we thought we’d give it a shot. We really wanted a romantic cruise just for the two of us, and we are hoping that this cruise will help us reconnect as we explore Europe (we plan to spend a couple days after the debarkation in Paris). Please let me know if this answers your question?

  3. There are no dumb questions. When going on a different cruise line it brings up many questions.

We sailed on Disney many years ago and loved it but Regent is different. It is much more laid back. It is a shame that you were warned off of Cruise Critic because there is a lot of great information on this board.

It is interesting that most reviews are from people that we have not seen on the review board and it shows. IMO doing research before a cruise is so important. It sets realistic expectations for your cruise. Some things that I read in the review section indicate that they did not know what to expect on Regent cruise.

On the Regent board you learn things such as finding a luxury cruise travel agent that regularly books Regent cruises so that you can receive a percentage back on your cruise, the best way to book excursions, etc.

I hope that you take advantage of the Regent board.

Thank you so much Travelcat! You have no idea how much your post has meant to me and has lifted my spirits. I was starting to think we made a huge mistake in booking Regent as maybe we were too middle class and wouldn’t belong. I like how you say it’s more laid back. We just want to relax on this cruise. You have actually regained my hope to continue reading these boards. I was about to delete the app. So, I’ll continue reading so that I may learn what not to do and what is ok to do, to avoid committing any major faux pas. Thank you again Travelcat! :)

  4. I guess it was a dumb question. I was hesitant to ask this group, and perhaps I should’ve erred on the side of caution. I’ve actually read an article that said if you want to enjoy your cruise and not second-guess it, don’t get sucked into Cruise Critic. No offense to anyone, but even looking at the Regent reviews on here can be depressing.

We had two children for the two DCLs, and unfortunately have not taken one with our youngest yet. All 3 kids are spaced very far apart. I would love to go once more with the two youngest (the oldest is 21). If you’ve never been on DCL, then you cannot imagine how all out they go to make your experience spectacular. The service is excellent, the ships are well-designed, the children’s programs are superb (fireworks!), the dining areas are very innovative, and the entertainment is Broadway-caliber. We’re taking this Regent cruise sans children since we’re focusing on the destination (which the kids wouldn’t get much out of). If Disney came out with an adult-only cruise ship, we might have considered it. Plus, my husband is like a kid half the time anyway. :)

  5. We’re taking the same exact cruise (Voyager, 7 day, Monte Carlo to Barcelona next June 2019). So, I appreciate your honest report about how things went. Could you share about the one excursion you did go on? I would like to learn more about people’s experiences on these before I book them when the time comes up. Many thanks!

  7. On the Disney Cruise, people were pretty big into posting door signs indicating what number cruise they were on and who they all brought on the cruise. It was super decorated and stuff. The only reason I would think to put something like that up (me who is completely artistically-challenged) is so that I could spot my stateroom. Do people on Regent put door signs up or is that considered tacky on this cruise line?

  8. Yes, we got it a week or 2 ago.

Shoot. Maybe I need to call and make sure they send one. Such a bummer because I was on hold for such a long time.

  9. Hi everyone,

I tried calling Regent, but got put on hold for an eternity. So I thought I’d ask here. Did anyone get a brochure/book of the new 2020-2021 itineraries that we’re just released? I’d rather not have to view all 18 pages on the web site clicking back and forth on each trip. I don’t have anything specific in mind. I’d like to browse first. Thanks for your help in advance!
