  1. I agree! The colors are warm yet neutral. You can pair the dress with a blazer or cardigan in any bright color, perhaps fuschia or chartreuse if you dare, or keep it calmer with creamy ivory or soft gold. A long beaded necklace would look great too!

And the warm jacket - a nice finishing piece for cool weather.

    Nicely done!!!

  2. Hi, Hi, Hi! :D

I have been absent for color classes lately!! :p

Anita is extraordinarily talented at explaining and getting me to open my mind to the wonderful world of colors! Kudos, Miss Anita!!

This past week was my first week at my new, full-time job! And it has been so hectic -- I am really wiped out at the end of the day...I am not used to a one hour commute in traffic each way, then a jam-packed day, and paying up to $20 a day for parking! But I am exploring public transportation options and hopefully next week will go a little better....:)

I have been enjoying catching up with the wardrobe-building questions. About a year ago I really began replacing my unflattering colors and ONLY buying what I thought were Fire pieces. Since then I have realized that some of the pieces are slightly-to-noticeably "off". One example is a kelly green blazer. I thought it was bright spring green but now that it lives in my rainbow colored closet, I can clearly see that it is definitely cool green. So there it sits, unworn day after day....:p

You all should see my closet....it is the brightest closet ever!! (wink)

I promise to take some photos real soon to show you, it is like nothing I have ever seen before.

So, my first week on the job. The dress code is fairly rigid, but we do have casual dress on Friday.

    Here is what I wore:

Monday: black trousers with bright blue tweed blazer, blue sleeveless shell. Black ankle boots

Tues: chartreuse blouse, chocolate skirt, wide brown leather belt with green and gold accent stitching, brown suede pumps with peridot green crystal accents

Wed: Warm grey pinstripe skirt, violet/fuschia sleeveless shell, black blazer, black peep-toe pumps (I had yellow polish on my toes!!)

Thurs: camel trousers, ivory cowlneck short-sleeve sweater, camel pumps (these pumps are super cute- But these made one foot blister and the other foot bleed, so ran to drugstore for moleskin to get through the day, then tossed out shoes when I got home. Had a strong martini before dinner...)

Fri: denim jeans, printed top in brown, gold, red floral and brown cotton casual blazer, camel flats (comfy!!)

Outerwear: ivory wool princess coat, brown leather jacket and orange trenchcoat

As you can see, I did not achieve 100% FIRE colors with the inclusion of black pants and blue denim jeans. But, overall, the colors I chose were significantly brighter than the majority of people in my office (It is a large office with at least 400 people, because it is the corporate HQ.)

Today I got in a little shopping to round out my choices and got a great pair of replacement pumps in champagne metallic....really pretty and much more comfy!

I also picked up an orange umbrella, a fuschia blouse and a camisole in perriwinkle and violet! I know you all want to see pics, and I again promise to do so, as soon as I get the correct USB cable to replace the one my dog ate recently.

  3. Happy Birthday to a Beautiful, Earthy Woman!! :D

I was just perusing the TV with QVC and saw this skirt being featured. The Cocoa color is definitely, absolutely perfect warm fire brown. Online it looks much more muted and questionable. But, I would bet money that this is a good, neutral piece for Fire!

    2na3eqs.jpg

I have a skirt close to this color and it goes with everything in the Fire palette.

  4. Do any of these colors look like spring ? Some of them are unusual

    http://www.express.com/banded-bottom-drape-neck-top-33671-9.pro?productVariantId=197621&quantity=1&itemGUID=bb083df0c0a8ab6f010cc53e27ceacb7#jsLink

A lot of Express clothes are available in these colors. The colors do look true to what I've seen in the store. At least on my screen

    Hi Jenny!

Funny thing is, when I looked at the color samples on that site, I could not tell the difference on my computer between Ice Rose and Pink Flare! The color names are unusual, as you said! Cannes, Persimmon, Bali are your best bets. And Pink Flare and Wild Pink - I am not certain, but they look good for Fire/Spring. Questionable: Gray, Blue, Ivory. They may be too cool in real life for a firey lady!! :p

  5. Jubie and Pam,

I found this at the Ulta store in Indy. I found it on clearance for $2.

What do you think? It's called "Serengeti".

    http://www.nyxcosmetics.com/index.php?pnk

I think it looks pretty. It's much lighter than what I got

but that doesn't mean a thing! How does it look??

BTW my name is Julie. The other is a combo of my name

    and my DH's.

I checked it out and it is really nice, and seems perfect for Fire! Nice choice. How does it feel to wear such vibrant colors? I am loving it!!

  6. I found a blue polish that I think is a pretty good match for our FIRE blue. It's called "Forever Mine" Denim Wanted by Essence.

I got the nerve and wore it on my fingernails (I actually bought it for my toenails--and even that was a bit of a stretch for me-- let alone using it on my fingernails ).

The color has a touch of green in it and is a little lighter IRL but, this is close to what it looks like and it matches closely with the blue on our cards.

    Essence_LE_Denim_Wanted_Forever_Mine.png

    Very nice! :)

I recently bought a color close to that blue called Marine Scene and I wore it on my toes, with peeptoe booties in caramel brown. Nice combo!

And, I am wearing a light spring green on my toesies now. This is a brave departure for me, but I really like it! Next I'm going to try yellow for my pedicure.

  7. Anita,

I think breaking off to a separate EARTH thread is a great idea because it will avoid confusion when discussing color tones that may appear close/similar to FIRE. I always enjoy reading your comments!! I will be a faithful follower of the EARTH discussions, not only because for years and years I thought I was EARTH, but because you really have a great way of explaining your thoughts and you post pics too!!! ;) :D

And with CJW's comments on all the beautiful EARTH ladies on the red carpet awards lately, you have some awesome role models insofar as fashion choices......:)

OP Kim, I'll stay with you here on this thread also.....no worries!!:D

  8. New dress:

    219vqs0.jpg

    Occasion: Winter Ball. January 2011

    Taken at the "After Party".

I had not touched up makeup for a while - I had been dancing my lil heart out...thus the shiny flushed face. that's all the details I am willing to post here.....:D :p

OK, Joby. This is for you. I am wearing a dress topped with a separate velvet and silk scarf. They are not a match. Can you see which one is a fire blue and which is an ice blue? Even in this low resolution picture?

  9. This first picture is at our hotel in Ft. Lauderdale. I'm wearing a brown sweater.

2nd picture--my fingernail polish (O.P.I. Melon of Troy)

    3rd picture-- toenail polish (O.P.I. Conga-line Coral)

4th picture--a funny picture that shows how pale I am--it's my skin against the sand at Half Moon Cay :)

    5th picture--another toe/ship/sand picture

Joby, these pictures are great! I really love the toes in the sand shots! How cute! It's funny that you mentioned your hubby is asking you if these pics are for your color gals! My hubby did too! I posted a lot of pics on the What Color thread over the past year, and hubby occassionally asked if I was conversing with my online color crew! ;)

I read Anita's comments about the blue top and I agree that the shade of blue is perfect for you. Perfect!

The green dress is hard to pin down, but I think it is Fire. The lighting has bluish reflections that may be cooling the overall photo down. It's a lovely dress and suits you well. LOVE the orange print dress!!;) I have the same dress and I wore it on my last cruise!!:D

Also, I need to mention that I also have redness on my upper chest and neck that is permanent, and becoming more noticable as I age due to sun damage that accumulated. I sometimes wear makeup to conceal it for photos. I always wear sunblock now, but the damage is done.

This has been one of my very favorite colors in the past year. I think you will find when you wear the right color for you, unexpected favorites will crop up!

  10. Kim,

thanks for being brave and posting your pics!

I do have some comments that I want to discuss, but for now I want to let you know I picked up this particular jacket in violet and it is sooooo cute.

    8wa4a0.jpg

It is from the Twiggy of London collection on HSN and I am very pleased with the fit and material. Do you think it is tooooo bright? :)

    V305529_P84.jpg

    Anita,

Thanks for posting these sensational FIRE violet tops! I have found it challenging to find bright warm colors in sweaters suitable for cold weather. (But I hadn't considered V.S.! )

Old Navy sometimes has Fire colors, but the quality isn't always good. Lands End often has Fire colors, but the styles mostly suit casual daytime wear.

And wow, to find workout clothes in brights - yay!! ;) My workout bottoms are mostly black. I only have one pair of green yoga pants. I have fuschia tights and yellow tights that I wear with a black running skirt.

  12. Hi Ladies!

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!

An optimist stays up until midnight to see the new year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves. ~Bill Vaughan

I haven't checked in for a while - just due to holiday craziness combined with job search craziness! I am looking forward to a new year, and a new job.

Due to my situation I have not been shopping for a while - I am on a serious financial "diet". Not to worry, I am not walking around half-dressed! In spite of not being able to replenish my wardrobe, I find I still have a lot of clothes in the closet that I should just get rid of and donate. I coordinate clothing drives for Dress For Success with my officemates, and I am delivering the next donation in the middle of January.

Now that I have fine-tuned my eyes to my Fire palette, I actually dislike wearing black dresses, tops, sweaters, and turtlenecks. Last winter I kept a few of my favorite black items and softened the look with bright silk scarves, pashminas, or chunky beaded necklaces. But, this season, I find I do not want to wear ANY black near my face and hair. So far this season, I have been wearing the following colors in sweaters and jackets: chocolate brown, firey orange, egg-yolk yellow, warm ivory, bright blue-green, peach, and camel.

With no new purchases for a while, I have been pairing up separates that I had never worn together.

For a family gathering, I put together a warm violet sleeveless top, a Talbots ivory suit jacket, denim jeans and bronze high-heel cowboy boots. Topped it off with a long clear quartz nugget necklace. Got several compliments too! I had never worn the summery sleeveless casual top with the more polished ivory jacket before, but they made an instant couple!

For a brunch with friends yesterday I wore an ivory Eddie Bauer cardigan with an orange silk cami under. Topped with a gold and orange bead long necklace, jeans and peeptoe brown flats. I couldn't help but attempt to diagnose the other people at brunch!! ;) (Keeping it to myself of course.) But I did compliment "M" for her raspberry down vest, a great color for her!

Here is a picture from Christmas Eve at my house with my 20-something nephew and his young wife. They are both AIR, he with cool ashy light brown hair and icy blue eyes. She has lovely hazel-brown eyes and medium brown hair. They have chosen good tones of blue that work well with their coloring. I am wearing ANOTHER ivory sweater! :D This particular sweater is interesting because it is knitted from super thin satiny *ribbon* instead of yarn! It looks kind of chunky but it is really lightweight, with a soft hand to it. I am wearing it with one of my go-to necklaces lately - the chunky polished quartz nuggets. They remind me of ice cubes! We are admiring the cupcakes the young couple's 3-yr old helped to make and decorate!

  13. Ladies, I just posted this picture of me when I was 12. I was a FIRE then, even with red hair and freckles! Still a FIRE, too!

This picture makes me laugh because my Mom just discovered it somewhere and posted it on FB today!! Many years ago my family had a major house fire so when we find an intact photo somewhere it is a real GIFT!! There are so few photos left!

    :D

  14. Terri,

how did your phone interview go yesterday? Hope it went well.

Thanks for asking! It was postponed to tonight since the manager is away on travel. I am prepared: since it is a phone interview I have my 2 computers already set up ready to assist, kind of like phoning a friend on the gameshow. One monitor will be set up to the company's corporate website so I can ask intelligent questions, and one computer will be set up with examples of my work so I can confidently speak about what I do without being tongue-tied ( it's like my own personal tele-prompter).

I will also have my good luck piece in front of me and some gold coins for good financial success. I have picked out my FIRE colors (a blue sweater and sunshine yellow scarf) because blue is a calming but vibrant color and yellow is the color of intellect and memory like a Post-It note. :D

No more caffeine for me today so I can focus without coffee's adrenaline rush. I plan to take a long calming walk in the woods this afternoon with my dog to help loosen me and relax my muscles.

  15. I second! Glad to read you had a great time...and do you have any pictures?

Hi! I have not posted for a while, but I can share this pic taken on my November cruise. I had a great time, but came back to a lay-off from my job that I ABSOLUTELY love. It was like the end of a relationship. :( :( (hmmm,,,there's no boo-hoo *smiley* on the smiley toolbar!!)

This is my first full week out of work. I have a phone interview tomorrow that seems quite promising, so wish me luck and positive thoughts!!

    Thank you!!:)
