Is the Serenity anchored in grand cayman today per schedule or is the ship skipping and going straight to Cartagena?

It skipped Grand Cayman and is headed to Cartagena. Bad thunderstorms and wind gusting in excess of 30 kn.

I think there may be some confusion.  The Starlight lounge on the Symphony is often used for dancing but the Stardust lounge on the Serenity is rarely used for dancing before or after dinner.

I’m an old guy and and my memory is not what it what it used to be. I could have been on the Symphony and not the Serenity. Does the Symphony currently have ballroom dancing in the Starlight Lounge?

I might be wrong, (won't be the first time) but in terms of location ballroom dancing on Serenity from what I remember has always been in the Palm Court other than when the seas were very rough so they had it in Stardust.

My apologies if I am wrong about this but just don't remember it in Stardust. And I just went back to look at Reflections from 2018 thru 2020 and I it showed Palm Court.

I do realize that some people are not happy that there are not happy that only a duo plays but when they old Crystal redid Palm Court in 2018 that they made the dance floor smaller.

    Keith,

Perhaps it was prior to 2018, but my (now) wife and I,who were not together at that time, both had taken several Crystal cruises and specifically remember dancing in the Stardust lounge.  In any event, I will certainly, and politely, use my best efforts to convince the cruise director to move the ballroom dancing to the Stardust lounge, which is the least Crystal can do since it eliminated the quartet in favor of a duo.

We were onboard Serenity for 30+ days earlier this year. Ballroom dancing was scheduled both pre-dinner and post-show in the Palm Court, except when weather conditions necessitated a safety move to a more stable, lower deck location (either Stardust or Atrium/Cove). We would often frequent the Palm Court after the show to listen to the duo playing there. With very rare exceptions, there were generally more dance hosts, servers and staff in the Palm Court post-show than ballroom dancers. This dynamic may change, depending on the demographics and interests of the pax on any particular sailing.

Thanks, Rob. To those currently on board the Serenity who is the cruise Director? Thank you.

In reviewing the Reflections, kindly posted by Seasack, it appears that all of the ballroom dancing is in the Palm Court, and not in the Stardust lounge as in Crystal’s prior incarnation. In addition, it appears that ballroom  dancing is only available before dinner. In its prior incarnation, Crystal provided ballroom dancing before dinner and after the show, and in the Stardust lounge. The dance floor in the Palm Court is inadequate for ballroom dancing, and it is not possible to do a waltz, foxtrot, or tango on such a small floor. One of the primary reasons we have chosen Crystal as our go-to cruise  line in this segment is the ballroom dancing and the Palm Court is a woefully inadequate venue for that endeavor.

I truly hope that I am missing something in my reading of the reflections or that Crystal administration reads this post and brings ballroom dancing back to the Stardust lounge before dinner and after the show.

  6. Good evening,

I saw a recent post from a Symphony passenger that the pool was too cold, the hot tubs too hot, and most of the jets in the hot tubs were inoperable.  Would someone who is, or has recently been, on the Serenity comment on the state of the pool and hot tubs.

    Thank you.

I just got something from Crystal which is all about attracting families with children—touting their kids program.  YIKES!  I go on smaller, higher end cruise lines to avoid screaming, misbehaving children.  Not that all children misbehave, but the vibe on a ship with children is different than ships of just adults.  I have a cruise planned for next June in Europe and I hope I won’t see lots of families.

How do the rest of you feel and are you seeing children on the two ships now?  I travel solo and just got a list of cruises with no single supplement from Regent.  I now need to decide if I still remain with Crystal—which has always been a favorite of mine—or switch to Regent where I have maybe seen a total of 5 children in over 10 cruises with them.  I do not hate children—I was a teacher for 25 years— I just prefer to not have them on my cruises.

I was on the Regent in March for a 7 day Caribbean cruise (A mistake I will never make again) and, according to the staff, there were approximately 50 kids on board, most under 12.  At least 10 were awful throughout the cruise, screaming, yelling, doing cannonballs in the pool, and were so misbehaved that the cruise director had to ask the families to control their kids on several occasions. I realize that it was unwise to book a 7 day Caribbean cruise during spring break so I blame myself.

The hours vary depending on the guest count. The more guests, the earlier the start of dining.  The dance hours are generally a set before dinner. A set after dinner, pre-show, and more dancing after the show.

    Ter,

Have you been on the Serenity in the past several months?  You seem to be the dancing maven!

As someone who is looking for a new cruise line to move toward, and someone who is not particularly interested in decades old music, it seems that Crystal may not be a place that meets my music interests.  That said, it doesn't mean that we wouldn't consider Crystal, it's just that it seems to be firmly walking on the side of the line that addresses its older customers' musical interests. Please correct me if I'm off on this, as there seems to be so much else to like about Crystal.

This is the issue with Regent and Seabourn also, both of which I have sailed on numerous times recently. To the musicians its as if there was no music created after 1985. It's all hustle all the time.  The only hope is that there is a DJ that has music files from this century!!  I leave the same complaints on the comment cards every time.  On a different front, My mission on my upcoming Crystal cruise is to do whatever it takes to get the cruise director to have ballroom music, even if its only a DJ, in the Stardust Club as often as possible like it was "back in the day."  By the second day I'm certain that he or she will hide in his or her office when they see me coming!!

All QG rooms have both bath and shower. There are no curtains.

Your restaurant table is yours for the duration of your trip for all meals.

That's interesting, because two Youtube videos of the suites taken with the last year show a combination whirlpool tub/shower with a shower curtain.

  11. Hello,

Do all of the bathrooms in the Queens Grille suites have bathtubs with shower curtains?  If not, which cabins have showers only with doors?  Also, are breakfast, lunch and dinner all served in the Queens Grille restaurant?

    Thank you.

I'm thinking the OP has the name of the venues confused.

I apologize for starting a firestorm...lol.  Perhaps Patty is correct and in my dotage I simply have the names of the venues confused.  Therefore, my quixotic mission will be to have the after-dinner dancing moved to the Starlite Club.
