  1. Thanks all. If I wait to purchase onboard, do I have to stand in a line at internet services or can this just be done interactively on the TV in the cabin like on NCL? It's only a five day cruise and don't want to spend any time in a line, if possible. It's currently discounted to $16.99 from $24.99. Have you found it's also discounted once on the ship?
  2. Returning to Royal after 5 years. How does the 1 free day Diamond perk work if I want to pre-purchase internet? Do I have to call to get it applied? Does it matter that I booked through a TA? Thanks for any info
  3. Would like to go to Nachi Cocum again but this time I'll be traveling solo. Do you feel riding solo in a cab is safe in Cozumel?
  4. Snort. Please sit next to me on a plane some day.
  5. Trying to decide on a balcony cabin on Radiance. What's the blank area on decks 8 & 9 in the middle of the ship between the aft cabins and the crew stairwell?
  6. Thanks everyone for the info. I actually like little kids, worked as a Pediatric Critical Care nurse for two years, just don't want to be on a ship with a large amount of free-roaming teenagers or drunk college idiots. Sounds like early February will be fine.
  7. I break out in a rash even thinking about being on an RCCL "fun" ship. What they did to Coco Cay breaks my heart
  8. The week after Thanksgiving is when we've traditionally cruised. Not only were there a lot fewer kids, the prices were usually lower and the ships weren't sailing full. This was all pre-Covid though so things may be a bit different now.
  9. I've only ever cruised from October thru December. Now that I'm semi-retired, I'm looking at cruises at other times of the year. There's an 8 night Reflection cruise the first week of February I'm interested in. Would this fall within the spring break, lots of kids time frame?
  10. This reminds me of the time on the Bliss all the regulars were bellied up to the bar at the District Brewhouse and this loud mouth guy shoves his way in and orders the sweet bartender to "Gimme a Bud Light". I told him they didn't have those fancy beers in here and he went stomping off like a two year old. For the rest of the cruise, Gimme a Bud Light was everyone's greeting.
  11. I'm trying to decide between Epic and Joy in early April for a solo cruise and it's come down to beer. Nice problem to have, no? The Epic is less expensive but alas, my beloved District Brew House is not to be. Searched the main NCL website on what's included in the drink packages and the beer selection is pitiful. Are there actually more choices on the ship than listed? Does Maltings have any craft beers? I hate wine and don't like most hard liquor but came out of the womb able to guzzle (sorry, I meant sip) a six pack.
  12. I'm considering a solo cruise on the Joy next April. Since there's no solo cabins or lounge on this ship, for those of you who've cruised the Joy solo, how were the solo meet ups? Well handled by NCL with a host or just a listing in the daily to meet at some bar?
  13. Thanks everyone for the input. I've given it some thought and decided my first transatlantic will be a different cruise. It was a combination of this Joy cruise being right after a drydock and there not being any studio cabins. I'm liking the Encore Dec '24.
  14. Thinking of celebrating retirement by taking a transatlantic on the Joy next Feb. Looks like there's a dry dock being done in Europe just prior to this cruise then it's scheduled to leave Southampton for Miami. Have the dry docks mostly gone according to plan? I'm concerned if there's a delay, I end up stuck in Southampton or worse, the cruise gets cancelled.
  15. We're considering a Summit cruise in early December after the October drydock. Anyone hear any info on planned changes for the ship?
  16. We're getting into Orlando around 8pm pre cruise and will have a car. Anyone know of any good places around the airport area that have craft beers? Thanks, Karen
