  1. I believe the roof is usually closed on Radiance class ships. There is no roof on the Voyager/Freedom class ships.

If this is correct it can change my whole plan. One of the reasons I did not look at NCL is that there are no covered pools and there were on Radiance class.

Can anyone confirm the "no roof" on the Adventure

  2. If you enjoy tanning in the Solarium, choose Adventure. On Jewel, the solarium roof is seldom, if ever, open....meaning no sunning in there! Adventure has an open Solarium, so you can sun in peace!!

Is the roof always open or do they close it depending on the weather?

I am looking into the Nov TA and it is important for me that the pool be covered as it can be quite cold until you cross about half of the Atlantic.

The covered solarium pool on the Serenade was my favorite place on last years Nov TA

  3. Hi there, I am struggling to get confirmation on this so hoping previous cruisers may know the answer. We have an overnight stop in Haifa and are planning to take the train to Jerusalem for the day and want to return to the ship late in the evening.

One of the tour companies has told us that you cannot access the port after 7pm, is this really the case. Previously on overnight stops at other ports, you can come and go as you please.

Anyone have first hand experience of returning to Haifa port late evening?

I called the port's passenger information service and they said that there is no problem to return after 7 PM

They suggested that if I had the ship and date information that they could check it more definately

If you wish to speak to them directly their number is 972-4-854-8246

  4. If they are the same price I would personally go for one you can choose rather than the guarantee. In 3weeks I will be in a guarantee cabin on the adventure for the first time. I usually like choosing my cabin, but for the upgrade I wanted it is a guarantee cabin....holding my breath to see what we get!!!

Also we are only on a 4night cruise so the risk seemed worth it as we are unlikely to be in our cabin much as we have 4 days to pack everything in. If it was longer than a week or a transatlantic I would definitely want to be choosing as I would not want to be lumped with a noisy cabin when I'm likely to be in it more.

Hope that helps you make your choice :)

Thanks I thinks I will go with the known as oppossed to the unknown

On the Adventure they have 2 sets of interior cabins. One with corridors on both sides and the other with a corridor on one side and an adjoining back wall to another cabin. Which would be a better choice?

  5. Being above the dining room should not be a problem. Only noise above an area with a loud speaker system would be a problem. The kind of sounds that a dining room produces travel downwards through the floor, if at all.

    Hope this helps.

    :)

Sort of what I thought also. The guarantee seems to risky

  6. That's true but fortunately they put the number on your seapass card.

I find it easy to remember which way to go by thinking in terms of left/right and front/back. So on our last cruise I knew if I was on aft elevators/stairs I had to go forward, and vice-versa.

On Freedom class direction is easy as long as you're on decks 6-8, you can see Royal Promenade from elevator lobby, then it's easy to get oriented.

Funny thing is on land I have a terrible sense of direction. I guess ships just make sense to me.

NCL has an interesting trick. The carpeting has fish and the fish are pointing forward. Just follow the fish

  7. The EGGED site is not the easiest to navigate, however by utilising the Trip Search facility I did manage to get a timetable and map of the 448 bus stops in Ashdod. The closest stop to the port appears to be not #13 Ha-Namal Junction but #15 at the end of Sderot Ben Gurion, by the map's reckoning about 3km from the port area. I don't know if this road could be navigated by foot, but a taxi ride to this stop is probably preferable to going to the Ashdod bus terminus. Any comments from locals would be appreciated.

From the Central Bus Depot in Jerusalem, the easiest way to the Old City would be to use the Light Rail along Jaffa Rd.

To those who would urge us to utilise a guided tour, my objection, based on comments I have heard from others, is that the tours try to take in many sites, and the visit to the Old City, which is our main interest, is too rushed.

Thanks in advance for any comments or advice.

Like I said in post #5 above there is no way you can walk to HaNamal Junction and it is also a long walk to stop #15 It does not make sense going there by taxi as the bus can be full by then. Take the taxi to the Central Bus Station, (it might be just a few dollars more) and guarantee a seat for all of you .

  8. I am looking at a cruise that on the search results page says that there is $124.32 in taxes, fees and port charges. When I go the the price summary during booking there are two more fees-- TIAC $98.00 and TIAS $7.00.

Does anyone know what these fees are and why are they not mentioned on the results page?

  9. RCCL Shareholder Benefit OBC is not combinable with any other cruise line offer. It's to bad, they could make it combinable with at least one other offer.

It is combinable with the Senior discount and a few other things Here is part of the letter which I recieved from Investor Relations

Under our current program, the Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. shareholder benefit offer is currently combinable with the following offers, promotions and benefits:

    -Gift Certificates

    -Royal Caribbean Visa Rewards Points

-Future Cruise Certificates (purchased before January 1, 2009)

    -Letters of Credit

-Restricted Rates (Resident, Senior, Military, Law Enforcement)

-Onboard Credit Offers & Pre-Paid Gratuities issued directly from from Travel Agencies/Agents (please confirm with your agent)

    -Redeployment Offers

The RCCL Shareholder Benefit Offer is not combinable with offers that already include onboard credits, "dollars off/wave" promotions, loyalty offers, upgrade offers, Future Cruise Certificates/Passages purchased onboard after January 1, 2009, chartered sailings, certain group sailings, certain price programs and/or bookings on a reduced rate or travel agent/inter-line rate.

  10. Which is great since we bought it at $12 and it pays more than. $100 year in dividends. Whenever I need shareholder OBC I just take the dividend :)

Sent from my iPhone using Cruise Critic Forums mobile app

Can you explain this. I don't understand what the OBC has to do with the dividend

  11. On my Serenade TA in November I had MTD, did not make reservations and never had to wait more than 2-3 minutes to be seated. The staff realized on their own that I usually came between 8-9 and after a few days they had the same table, same wait staff and my ice tea waiting for me.

I could be that if I came a lot earlier it might have been different and I would have to be more proactive but I felt that the staff went out of their way to be of help.

  12. Hi Badatz and other local residents:

a question about EGGED bus travel, not including the Ashdod to Jerusalem service [which I believe is around 20nis per person each way]:

is there a multi-trip or similar pass/ticket [preferably which could be shared by two passengers] which could be used in Ashdod AND Jerusalem in order to get to/from the relevant bus stations [even a shareable 4-trip ticket would be ideal]? Thanks.

I am pretty sure that there isn't any. The bus companies went over to magnetic cards like metrocards and oyster and any deal that they have is per person on his card. I will be back in Israel next week and will try to get more info

  13. Another realistic scenario that has to be taken into account are times when there are VIP visitors in Jerusalem or a very large public event (like the Marathon this Friday).

That is true and that is why it is always wise in any city to check if there are scheduled events and plan accordingly

  14. The most economical way to get to Southampton can be to use : http://uk.megabus.com/

Despite the name if you book the route London - Southampton they put you on the train at a cheaper price than using the National Rail site.... and you're on the same train! Transfer to the port from Southampton Station is £5. :D

Just keep in mind that there are usually no Megatrain tickets on Sunday

  15. I like reading threads of various topics for personal education purposes. I may sound naive or rude, but I mean no disrespect. There has been mention of using paper cups and stirrers or using china and silverware. For those that practice a Kosher diet, do you try to avoid 'reusable' items while out to avoid cross contamination? Is there another reason?

I did try a Google search, but got many answers for "Kosher in China" :D

If by "cross contamination" you mean contamination in a health sense then no, that is not the reason.

Disposable are used because Kosher refers not only to the food itself but to the preparation, and serving. For instance if take a piece of Kosher food especially if it is hot, and put it on a plate that was used for non Kosher food then by the strict Orthodox practice the food would be unacceptable .

Kosher is a wide wide range of rules so I would suggest that you try Kosher on Wikipedia. There are very good explanations there
