  1. We have eaten their on several different cruises and always find it to be a quiet and pleasant experience. I have also been able to order steak and eggs for breakfast any time I want. Also the servers will get to know your preferences and will have that available to you every morning if you like. We like raisin bread and they always have it there for us Overall I think the service is better and more ambient.[:):):)/B]

  2. We did the Veendam for New Years and we were in cabin 117 Verandah deck. We didn't have any problems at all. We had reservations because of all the past post last year about the many problems. The crew in my opinion was one of the very best we've had and we've been on close to 40 cruises. The food was excellent and the hamburgers and french fries on the pool deck station were outstanding and a daily must.. The Captian sets the tone and I think he does an excellent job in making sure his crew was ever accomdating and available. We were very happy and booked them again for next New Years also. Its my understanding they are going in for dry dock and refurb in April so it should be in good shape, I thought that the interior of the ship was in excellent shape it was in need of some paint on the outside but not horriibly bad. I think you will have a good experience and will enjoy your cruise.:):)

  3. We had that happen on the Veendam in San Diego for our just recent New years cruise. First time ever for us also We had primted out our tags and put them in clear plastic holders and zip locked them to the suit cases and everyone, all 5 of them were removed and airline type tags put on instead. the luggage got there so there wasn't any problem but it was a first for us also.:):):)

  4. Song Of Norway, 1978,Carribean, and we were hooked for sure. In 2009 we were aboard the Mariener of Seas and met the Captian and in the conversation he told us that he was a deck hand on the Norway in 1978, and now he is the captian of the Mariener, now thats a rags to rich's dream.:):)

  5. We have been doing new years on HAL for the past 5 years and this year also and every year they do a great job. They have food stations and music thru out the ship, hats horns and a midnite countdown. You'll have agreat time and a fun evening. We did the renewal of vows last new years for our 50th and they did a great ceremony and event. It was in a special section of the crows nest thats rorped off. We were the only couple so the Captian sat with us for about an hour and then did the cremony. The ships phtograper took pics anhd they put it all together in a nice album for your they will have a cake, drinks and ord also, a very special eveing for saure. Have a great time.:):)

  6. He was a rabbi and his wife and they traveled exstensivly for speaking engagements on Northwest. His complaints were of things that happened to them on the airline not abusivre language as I read the case. Intersting case tho,He was a hugh customer however they detailed all his complaints, I thought this case had already come down , not sure tho.:):)

  7. You might also check out the prices at the Fairmont waterfront. Pan Pacific is a great hotel and location but Fairmont is accross the street and you can drop your luggage there and they will deliver it to the cruise terminal and you walk underground accross the street to Canada Place the cruise terminal. Either way have a great cruise.:):)

  8. We usally always book thru Amex Plat and get the pin dinner. Its very easy to book, you also may be able to do it at the peir while waiting to board, sometimes they have a set up for that but you also just go onboard and book at the restraunt. Its usually not crowded the first nite and is a nice way to start your cruise with an excellent meal. have a great cruise.:):)

  9. We've been down there the last 4-5 years for new years and 8-10 times for New years over the past 15 years. the weather can vary but its usually nice and warm, however last year for New years we were in PV and it rained and I mean rained hard all day, the streets were flooded but the next day was very nice and clear. So its usually warm but always be prepared for some rain at the time of the year.We have zipped lined in PV at that time of the year and sweated to death but you should be fine just be prepared.:)

  10. We did our 50th anv and renewal of vows last New Years on the Zaamdam and we had a great time. We drove to San Diego and brought our bottle of Dom on with us. However you choose to do it it will be a very special time and HAL does great job. We were fortunate that we were the only ones that evening and the Captian sat and talked with us for over an hour before we did the ceremony. It was a special evening. Have a great cruise and enjoy, they do a great job and present you with a very nice album with pictures and a certificate. Congradulations and emjoy your DOM however you choose to have it.:)

  11. Thank you copper 10-8, always wondered what happened to Song of Norway. It was a fun ship and at the time and still does impress usI still remember our dinner guest, an oil engineer from Aramco in Iran and an authoress whos book I still have that was made into a movie The Sicilian. Still fond memories today of that frist cruise even tho I had spent time in the Navy and today we have been on around 35-40 cruises and stii have a great time on them. Just a side note, have seen your post and they are usually always informative and on point.Thank you for taking the time to keep all of us abreast of whats going on.:)

  12. Just a further side note, when on Marinier of the Seas a few years ago, we had the good fortune of meeting the Captian and when talking to him at a private party he asked us our first cruise and we said Song of Norway 1978 and then he told us that was his first year on ships also and it was Song of Norway and he was a deck hand. Fast forward to 2010 and his is now a Captian of the Marinier of the Seas. That a rags to riches story for sure. he was a delightfull gentleman and really fun to talk to, we saw him and talked to him several times.:)

  13. RCCL "Song of Norway 1978 to the Carribean.Only about 600 passengers and it was a grand style for sure. Yes it did hook us and we have been at it ever since. It has changed but its still a great way to travel and always get excited when we arrive at the port or pier and see the ship sitting there.:)
