  1. Thanks for all the posting and information about Stockholm. I have read A LOT of Stockholm information on the CC threads and cut and pasted tidbits into a couple documents. I then digested it down to what pertained to our dock which is Stadtgarden area and that helped to sort things out. After weighing public transportation, hoho boat, and a tour...I think we are going to get off the ship; take the hoho boat to Vasa and do Nordic Museum; take hoho boat to City Hall to see if we can get a tour...and then hoho boat to Gamla Stan. This seems doable and cost effective for us.

Will this work or do you have any advice to offer. We understand City Hall tour may or may not work depending on how many "tours" they offer that day. But in weighing City Hall or Nordic Museum, I think I want to see the Nordic Museum and painted folk art.

Thanks again for any advice and enjoy checking this site for tips.

I would check where you are docking (or maybe you have). We are docked at Frihamnen and there is not a HOHO stop by us. So we are taking the bus or a taxi to the Vasa and then are using the HOHO boats to the remaining areas of interest we want to see. Of course we are there on a Saturday, so we do not have the direct route that bus 76 takes Monday-Friday. We also plan to buy the HOHO tickets ahead of time. I will try and post when I get back to let everyone know how our plan went lol. Hopefully successful.

  2. More about info on bus 76.

Thanks to Cruise Critic Europe boards.

If you plan to go from Frihamnen to the Vasa Museum in the morning bus 76 runs every 8 minutes according to the present timetable. There will be a new timetable for the summer months. The ride from Frihamnen to Djurgårdsbron should take 8 minutes, but then of course there is a short walk too. To get from Frihamnen to Gamla Stan should take around 20 minutes.

I don’t know if the Norwegian Star will have a shuttle, but when a cruise line does have a shuttle it usually drops people off near the Royal Opera Building. This is nowhere close to the Vasa Museum.

The Ho/Ho Bus is really a sightseeing bus and will take you around more slowly and maybe not directly from the port to the Vasa. Right now it runs at intervals from 30 to 60 minutes but I am sure it will be more frequent in June. But it will not be quicker.

Here is a map where you can see where bus 76 goes as well as the port and the main sights:

Thank you for this info. I was trying out the site again and it looks like since we are there on a Saturday, there is not a direct bus to either Djurgardsbron or the Vasa stop. It also seems that the journey is about 46 minutes, but the shorter journey of 21 minutes doesn't get us there until 9:15 or so. They don't make this easy.

  3. So the bus from the cruise terminal in Stockholm goes to a stop very close to the Vasa? When I was trying to use the Journey Planning website, it said something about having to change to the metro. Also, did you already have SEK, or were you able to purchase the bus tickets via credit card?

Also, in Helsinki, where did you buy the all day transportation pass?

Thank you! Very much enjoying your review! We leave next Saturday!

  4. I second, third, fourth all of this. Months ago, when we were planning Stockholm, I dove into all of this information. The info doesn't seem to be cut and dry. There seems to be a lot of walking involved and waiting at bus stops. Frankly, with 7 hours to work with and a beautiful city to take in, I gave up. After I had everything planned, it just seemed overwhelming to have our group of 5 commuting everywhere via public transportation in such a short time.

We booked a tour and that was that.

I wasn't overly thrilled with any of the tours for the prices they were - plus we like just wandering at our own pace whenever we feel it's feasible. Unfortunately, this seems so much more complicated than when I planned our Mediterranean cruise a couple years ago. I think if I could just figure out the buses (and maybe perhaps how to pronounce some names of things!) I'd be okay. I think I finally have Helsinki (almost) down - but Stockholm is proving to be a bit more difficult. Being that our cruise is in 18 days - I figured I better kick it in gear!

  5. There is an overhwhelming of information in this thread, so I apologize if this question has been asked already.

We will be porting in Stockholm on Norwegian Star on Saturday June 1st. I believe we will be porting at the Frihamanen port.

If I am not mistaken, the bus driver does not sell bus tickets. So where can I buy the bus tickets at Frihamanen port? What are the different ticket option available?

We are still trying to figure out where to go, but for sure Vasa Museum and Gamla Stan. If we only goto these 2 places, is it better to pay for each trip seperately, or should we get a day pass for the transit?

    Thank you very much!

Thank you for asking this! We are on the NCL Star for this trip as well and we would like to from the ship to the Vasa first. I'm having such a hard time figuring Stockholm out for this trip that any info would be much appreciated - especially which bus to take, etc. It's so confusing and I don't know why. We'd also love to see the changing of the guards and visit the Gamla Stan.

  6. I am not sure but contact one of the companies i have listed on the front page.

The price will be around 250-300 DKK from the airport to Tivoli Congress Center and from Tivoli Congress Center to the pier (I´m Guessing Langelinie Pier) probably around 200 DKK

When you have the distance you can calculate the price yourself.

The distance from the airport is between 9,3 and 12,1 kilometres, the longest route being the motorway.

From The Tivoli Congress Center to Langelinie Pier there is 5 km.

    http://www.taxinaevn.dk/takster/takster.pdf

From the look of it you need a so called storvogn (big van)

I´m guessing you are at the airport between 07:00 and 16:00 so its takst 4 so the starting fee is 90 DKK (inclusive 3,5 km) and then its 17,35 DKK/km

So its between 190 DKK and 240 DKK from the airport if you calculate in kilometres but the waiting time (traffic lights or jams) is 6,75 DKK/min so it adds up.

Thanks for the info. I'm used to feet and miles so I'm trying to process this, lol. I'll also have to figure out currency exchange. Doesn't look to be cheap though. Do you know what we would have to do about our daughter and a car seat for a taxi?

  7. Hello - my family and I will be taking a red eye on May 23rd, arriving early afternoon on the 24th. It will be me, my husband, our daughter and my parents. We are staying at the Tivoli Hotel for one night before the cruise. Do you know if any of the taxi's have car seats and what the approximate cost might be from the airport to the hotel and then the hotel to the pier (starts with an L)? I'm assuming a taxi would be easiest due to the amount of luggage we will all most likely have along with a stroller. Thanks for your help!
