  1. Thanks! That's a silly glitch in the system. We'll be traveling our 26 month old and just figured we'd use a crib. I never thought it would be an issue.

We're driving. Would it be easier to just bring our pack n play?

I think it depends on how nervous you are. If you trust that they can get you the crib, then it will certainly be easier to get one on board and save yourself the trouble. If you are like me and a compulsive list maker and stressed traveller then you might want to bring one with you, just to be sure it is there. I half way don't want to deal with the extra bag.

  2. My daughter turns 2 two weeks before we cruise, so I've been through this too. I know the answer! The reason she is getting an error is because their system only allows pre-requesting a crib for children UNDER 2. Multiple agents have assured me that if you ask your room steward the first day, there will be plenty of cribs available for your child.

We ended up moving her to a toddler bed a few months ago, in part because we were worried that there wouldn't be a crib available.

EDIT: they even went to some higher level supervisors to hunt down a way to ensure that we could have a crib and still couldn't do it.

  3. I just wanted to say that he sounds super adorable! Wish we were sailing on the Valor (my DH booked the San Juan itinerary and I was surprised to be on the Fascination instead of the Valor- but hey, a cruise is a cruise!).

Have a great time on your cruise!!!

    Aw, thanks! He's so excited!

That San Juan itinerary is on my bucket list.

  4. So cute! I looked into the behind the scenes tour, and I think they have a minimum age of 8...

I was just looking in to it and realized there was no way he would be patient for that long. Maybe an 8th birthday cruise will be necessary in a few years [emoji6]

  5. Just got off the Valor this past Sunday and the captain was Captain Rocco Lubrano. The captains do change from time to time, but this is accurate as of two days ago. Enjoy your cruise!

Thank you!!! Hopefully he won't change before February, because my guy loves talking about him. When they reposition to Galveston, we are going to bring him down to see it. He has seen Liberty quite a few times and loves "talking to the captain" at the bridge (and scaring all of the nearby seagulls while he's yelling at the ship).

  6. Sounds like your little guy might be interested in a Behind the Fun Tour which is offered on the last sea day. I recommend you sign up for it when you board the boat (Day 1) as it always sells out.

You'll get a full-on behind the scenes tour of the boat AND get to go to the Bridge and meet the captain (and you'll get a picture of you and the captain on the bridge together - included free in the cost of the tour).

The tour is a lot of walking but really offers a view of what it takes to run a hotel on water and the resources involved to make it all happen.

That Is a great idea! I had completely forgotten about that! Thanks :)

  7. We have done Starboard for our previous cruises, just out of coincidence. Our next trip is Port and I admit that I'm a little thrown off by it. There is really no explanation other than I am a creature of habit.

What is most important to me, is what is above and below me. I prefer to be sandwiched between other staterooms.

  8. Hello! My four year old is obsessed with our February 11 cruise out of Galveston on Valor. He talks about the captain all the time ("the captain drives my big boat" "tell the captain that I'm being good"). I would love to have a name to go with his ramblings. Can someone who has sailed recently tell me what his name is?

    Thanks :)

  9. We live in San Antonio and my parents live about two hours from Galveston, northeast of Houston. So we're planning on driving to my parents on Sunday then driving to port the morning of embarkation. This is not my first cruise from Galveston, so if you have any questions regarding the port or area I'd be happy to answer them.

Thanks, we live in The Woodlands and have sailed from Galveston before, too. We are thinking about spending Friday night in Galveston because there are so many of us this trip. It feels a little more relaxing to be able to take our time on the morning of embarkation.

  10. If your mother is anything like mine, she doesn't want to lie to anyone (and I don't blame her), so rather than telling them that her cabin mate will be arriving later, she could just tell them that her friend decided not to come. I'm sure that will suffice.

"She didn't get on the plane" is not a lie [emoji6]

  11. These are awesome ideas!!! I'm thinking maybe doing a countdown with each week ending in a cruise themed clue and the final countdown week ending with a gift for them with things they will need (swimsuit, etc) and a custom tshirt!! Their ultimate surprise will be that their grandparents will joining us as well!

Maybe their grandparents can show up to "trick or treat" at your door! This sounds like a fun vacation!

  12. I would tell him once aboard, that you met and chatted with someone from Cruise Critic that had a suite. they offered to let you see it, and take him and knock on the door.. Surprise!! Really, have a ton of fun, and enjoy the cruise.

This is awesome! You could plan for a later arrival time, so you are sure they are on board before you show up.

  13. You still have plenty of time, I'm sure you will have plenty of traveling companions [emoji6]

It doesn't hurt that you booked your FTTF and excursions right away, especially if they are excursions that you are really wanting to do. I'm looking at booking ours soon, but I have a little bit of trip planning obsession. Keep in mind that the cruise line may add more cursing as they become available. I've seen my February excursions roll out in a few phases.
