Several of us arriving in Papeete for a cruise, would like to meet up late (4:00-4:30) for Happy Hour and Roulottes before returning to our hotels. I am presuming this would be the Le Marche' area.

We would appreciate a suggestion for a good place to meet for HH and then proceed to dinner. Some of us have not met yet, so would need a recognizable place so we can find each other. :)

    Thank you.

  2. Pants, shirts, dresses and sport coats have been discussed. How about ladies shoes?

Tennis shoes and casual sandals are good for day time. What about evening? I physically cannot wear heels. I do have several Nice pairs of sandals. Flat, attractive and walkable for me. If open toes are a problem, can always wear some form of hose.

    Any problems with this?

    Thank you.

  3. Thanks to all for your replies. I only wanted a couple of bottles for use on our veranda for early Happy Hour. At the bar or with dinner, I intend to order what I want, wherever I am.

I have been told about a store in Papeete called Carrafours, that has a decent selection. Also, the marketplace is suppose to have a wine shop.

    I appreciate all your information.

  4. First time cruisers on Oceania Marina. We are headed to French Polynesia.

My question is about wine in our cabin for use on our veranda.

We had planned on purchasing several bottles in Papeete prior to embarkation.

I have recently been told that if we buy "3" bottles of wine onboard the ship, there is a 30% discount on this multiple purchase. This would be for use in our cabin.

I have not read this in other postings. Can someone speak from experience?

    Thank you.

  5. We have friends who could confirm each restaurant last week. We have been included in those reservations. As of today, our ability has opened up. BUT, I am finding, that I cannot make additional reservations. We were going to have ANOTHER group of friends join us when I was able to confirm, but not possible.

Can anyone offer suggestions for this concern. This is our first Oceania cruise, so would really appreciate some advise.

    Thank you.

  6. Thank you for the replies. As experienced as we are at traveling, this one is giving us a hard time. Know we are late and that increases the urgency. Plus, our TA is out of town and I am asking Oceania to work with me. (???)

2 of us are in Chattanooga. One is in Knoxville. We have several options. Depart from our home cities and connect over Atlanta to LAX. Would like to overnight in LAX and continue from LAX to PPT following day, arriving a day before embarkation. Repeat same overnight procedure on the return.

I do not where to start! Do we do our own air to LAX? Use Oceania's air from LAX to PPT? Let Oceania do the entire flight program with an air deviation?

I was thinking about business class from LAX. Had read it was around $2700.00, but then read close to $5,000.

I have had 2 joint replacements in the last 18 months and need to travel carefully.

Any suggestions would be so helpful. THANK YOU!!!!!

    Susan

  7. Understand the Code share deal. Although, Air France is a Dl. partner.

You know, we can only do our best. Researching to know our possibilities and work it with as much knowledge as we can.

Plan to ask about stopping in LAX. My travel gut is telling me to do this.

    THANK YOU!!

Anyone reading this forum experienced this cruise before?:)

  8. OK, if I am understanding the information, if we get to Lax and rest up for a day, we can REQUEST via deviation to Oceania for decent departure and arrival time. If available, by paying the up charge, this could be available. So. I will need to talk to them about Chattanooga or Atlanta departure also. Find the difference between stopping in Lax and not stopping in LAX and decent flying times.

After deposit tomorrow, will get right on it and get the $$ and let them go to work.

With Air Tahiti Nui being a Dl/ Air France code share can we earn DL. FFY points?

Thank you again for all your invaluable help.

  9. SO MUCH HELP. Thank you all. Know we are late and the planning becomes stressful. Wish it could have been avoided.

Do not mind paying for deviation. Just want to be comfortable and have the most direct schedule. Do not expect the best for nothing. Willing to pay for what we get.

Since I have had several replacement surgeries in the last 19 months, just cannot do that.

How comfortable are the flights? I usually fly business just for the comfort issue and I need to get up and move around. Would like to use Dl. where it is possible and stoping in LAX to overnight each way would be ideal.

We are depositing tomorrow. Then, plan to talk to Oceania about air. We have sailed Azamara several times, so Oceania is new to us.

Also, do you, who have been there before us, suggest private tours on some of the islands? Not one for loading on and off busses.

Thank you again for your most valued help. Susan

  10. Hi all,

Been following this forum, as we are in early planning stages for our April cruise in and out of Papeete. Our first cruise experience with Oceania.

Wondering about our best air options. The closest intl. airport is Atlanta.

We are considering connecting over LAX with an overnight each way, just to break up the long flight.

We also, want to arrive in Papeete a day early to be rested before embarkation.

We are not comfortable waiting until 75 days prior to departure to get air schedules. Did not know about the deviation, so were considering using Oceania's air from LAX and getting to the West coast on our own. Figured we would be safe from LAX, with a direct flight schedule.

Has anyone had past experience with this situation and could offer advise.

    Greatly appreciated.

    Thank you so much.

  11. The only cruise available is the 14 day Oceania. I am wondering if that is too long. With this being our first visit to this area of the world, do you think it would be repetitious?

Also, a friend recently mentioned that Princess has 2 small ships that cruise French Polynesia. We are wondering, since the ships we have checked are so limited, how does Princess measure up in the market?

    Thank you so much.
