No. Unless you have cancel anytime, your reason for canceling must fall under one of their covered reasons.  Since a cruise line can change the port line up anytime, you really can’t fall under anything destination wise, since the ship will keep you from harms way.  There really isn’t anything you can get from insurance based on this.

I wanted to add: yes, a cruise line can always change ports and they are under no liability if the do so. People need to understand this when booking a cruise.

    Very interesting. Thank you.

Are they officially saying this is a war based on Netanyahu's declaration? Many times they go off of the US State Department's official determination.

Looks like Regent's stance is going to be that the cruise is going to continue and changes to itinerary are allowed in the contract.

Would travel insurance cover a decision to cancel this cruise if Regent doesn’t want to cancel? Israel has declared war, perhaps that will help this situation to rise to a level that a reputable insurance company would recognize? Has anyone called their travel insurance company yet? I couldn’t imagine traveling to this area without being insured (under normal circumstances).

BTW, my Regent friends said their AAA contact said all of their clients have been evacuated from Egypt. Second or third hand info, but…….

I answered this in another post . No. Already called Allianz. You would have to have Cancel Anytime .

Most insurance companies exclude acts of war. IMHO, the only type of insurance that would help is a Cancel Anytime.

United Airlines just cancelled our flight to Tel Aviv that was to leave from Newark on October 8.  We are in a holding pattern ti to see where the Voyager will let us embark. Ashod is close to the action of the moment.
So far, Haifa us not, but who knows what will happen in northern Israel. Right now! we have no air to Israel.  I hope we can do this cruise.  Any ideas?

  6. Just spoke to Regent. They are working on it. Word perhaps tonight or tomorrow . What complicates this is the Haifa is the embarkation port, so it’s not as simple as changing ports. They have to consider all those flying into Tel Aviv. Give them some time. This is not an easy job.

  7. IMHO, Catania does not hold much for kids. The better plan is what you originally suggested... spend time at Mt. Etna and time at Taormina. Another idea, is to take the infamous "Godfather Tour" which takes you to Savoca where the Sicily scenes were shot. Two very good tour operators in Sicily are SicilyLife and RomeInLimo.

Whatever you choose, you will enjoy. Sicily is amazing!

  8. Shelldi, I loved your review. Although I have been multiple times to Italy, I am taking my three kids on a Med cruise this summer and I am a bit nervous. I have a daughter who is 13, a son who is 13(yes, twins) and a son who is 15. They are not too excited as they are typical teens and beach people. I have selected a 7 day itinerary that isn't too intensive(at least I don't think so). I would love your thoughts from your "motherly opinion" having travelled with your kids:

    Istanbul- beginning here.

    Athens-full day private tour

    Mykonos- beach day

    Valetta, Malta-not sure yet

Salerno-I was torn here. I have been to Pompeii 4X. Capri, Sorrento and the rest of the cost multiple times. I really wanted to see the museum in Naples which I never have, so I was going to take them for as long as they could stand then get pizza!

Catania- Mt. Etna and Taomina(this was a giveup for me...been to both, really wanted to do the Godfather tour, but thought they kids would be bored)

Rome-last stop and we spend three days. The only thing I am really hesistant on is the Vatican Tour. I would love it, but not sure about the kids. Did I mention two have A.D.D?

Your thoughts, suggestions and opinions would be appreciated!

    Thanks.

  9. So many thanks to all of you. First, I have been to Ravello(twice!) So, as I think about all of this, I will either 1) do Naples only or 2) do Herculaneum and then spend time in Salerno. I think that although I can do it all, I am on a ship's schedule, so I don't need the anxiety of worrying about getting back on time, so I will just pick one and be thankful for the opportunity to even have the opportunity!

Again, many thanks to all of you for your expert advice and opinions!

  10. Yes Hank, this is my dilemma. With all the trips that I have made to the region, I have yet to visit the museum. I am very torn on whether to do this or not(not sure when I will be back to Napoli). Your opinion from having been there is very appreciated.

If my ship had ported in Napoli, where it originally was supposed to, I was going to do the museum and then add Pizza and the underground cisterns to the agenda so that it was more "bearable" to my teens. Now, that we are out of Salerno, my options are limited with the time. As mentioned, I have been to Pompeii enough times, same with Sorrento, Amalfi and Positano. Any other ideas?

    Thanks!

  11. Just learned that our Celebrity med cruise has moved ports from Napoli to Salerno. My original plan if we ported in Napoli was to spend some time in the museum in Napoli and spend a few hours in Herculaneum. Now, we are porting in Salerno and would like expert thoughts on whether I am giving myself enough time to do the following: get off ship, train to Napoli for museum, train to Herculaneum for a few hours, then train back to Napoli and fast train to Salerno. In port 7:00-6.:00pm.

Traveling with three teens. Definitely won't spend a lot of time in either place. All thoughts welcome. I have been to Pompeii four times, as well as multiple trips to Capri, sorrento, amalfi etc, so I am trying to get somewhere I haven't been. Thanks!

  12. After reading this thread, and knowing most of the Plat benefits, I was curious about the above poster's benefits of Johnny Rockets/VIp check in/etc. I called AMEX Plat on an upcoming cruise and learned that in addition to the all the advertised benefits, there is another one that is not. It is called Destination Family and if you are travelling with kids under age 17, you are entitled to: VIP checkin, Johnny Rockets for a family of four and Unlimited Refills on Soda. This is only on Royal Caribbean and Part of the the American Express Plat benefits, so be sure to ask about it!
