  1. The only time we have been we got there after dark and walked around a little bit but when we go this time it will probably look completely different because of the day light. Looking forward to hearing what all they have to offer.

**FYI we were originally heading to the Bahamas but hurricane Matthew changed our itinerary.

  2. Hi everyone. I am about to leave for Florida for some Disney time then heading to Miami for a cruise. I have been meaning to research this but kept forgetting and now I don't have the time.

What time are we allowed to get to the port in Miami and how do I find out which terminal to go to? I know that setsail pass say's a certain time but in Port Canaveral people are always there before said time. I like to get on the ship as soon as I can but don't want to show up and just sit in the terminal for 2 hours or anything. (I am aware that it can happen if something unexpected happens)

    Thanks!

  3. Just an update... it would NOT let me print out the portion of the set sail pass that includes the contract. Gave me a message that they have to have someone over 21 sign for them. I did remove them from the original contract and have them moved to the other persons contract. Sent a message in all caps to not allow them in the vehicle if they don't have a birth certificate and if the 17 year doesn't have her notarized letter allowing her to travel. So as of now I'm out of it. ;)

  4. Please urge them to leave the night before by 6 or 7 pm even if they have to sleep at a rest stop or truck stop for a few hours. That way they can plan to get there around 9 or 10am and get on the ship as soon as the doors open.

We live in Florida, but the other couples we cruise with live in Ohio. It’s a short 2 hour plane ride, and they always book the first flight. That puts them in FLL by 9 or 10am, we meet them and all board together. This last cruise 2 weeks ago, the plane was delayed. They didn’t get in until about 1pm [emoji33]. After getting bags and alternate transportation to the port, we didn’t get there until 3pm and we had to schlep all of our stuff ourselves because the porters were gone.

It turned out fine, but almost didn’t. The new rule is that they come in the night before now.

Even though we only live 2 hours from Miami, we went on a cruise last year that started the day after Easter. My family went to church and then we headed on down to FT. Lauderdale and we found that we really liked being there the day before. Less stress, just get up and go [emoji5].

Trust me if I could change it I would. They are grown ups and feel like it will be fine. I do think they are planning on leaving around 1am that morning so hoping for them that it all goes well.

  5. As a rule, I have always printed separate set sail passes for everyone. My family group has been as big as 7 spread across multiple cabins or sharing the same suite. Having separate set sail passes for everyone takes one complication out of the equation.

We have cruised several times with my children as late teenagers. On our last cruise, my son was 20. He signed his own contract and set up his own credit card against his account. So I question those who think you need to be 21+ to set up your own account or sign your own contract. I believe the min age is 18.

What nobody can anticipate is how the person at check-in will act when a group of young kids turn up and they happen to be unrelated. Even if one is 21+. Being the kind of person who likes minimum of fuss, I would aim to check in together. An overnight stay in a cheap hotel, even if it is en-route would be preferable to a long drive with risk of delays and missing the boat.

When my children were young and money was tight, I would plan my road trips so that overnight stops were at the cheapest possible hotels which were typically in remote, unpopular spots along the route. Its an option worth considering.

When I did check-in on the cruise it would not allow me to have anyone at least 19-under to sign the full contract. It would allow me to have them sign for their own debit card. So those in that actual situation are listed on 2 setsail passes. I will go and see if they have changed something that will allow me to change it up that way.

The other people that the 19 and 17 year old would be traveling with is a married couple over 26 and the other group ranges has adults in an age range of 65-38 not counting the 22 year old.

  6. Anyone who is there will get on the ship, as long as they have the proper ID's and money. I am a bit concerned about the people you said would be leaving the "morning of" and driving 10 hours....that sounds like a disaster, to me! Groups do NOT have to arrive together.

My too  I would be so stressed!!!!!!! I always arrive the night before because you never know what could happen not to mention some Holiday traveling will have already started. My family of 8 will be there and so will my parents so if someone else misses the ship I will send them a text saying sorry before we leave the port on the ship. ;)

  7. Not all people in a cabin need to check-in / board at the same time.

I´m not sure how the setsail pass is handled, but I think you could change it to sperate setsail passes by not having one person sign for all and this would get everybody their own setsail pass.

The 19 year old will have a set sail pass that puts his debt card on his room key (my mind is just going blank and I can't remember what those cards are called lol) but he and the 17 year old both have to be listed on someone's setsail pass because they are under 21 and can't sign the contract.

Thanks for the help on the other. I think this is exactly what I am going to do plus I no longer have to worry about the birth certificate issue. I have been begging for 2 months for them and still don't have them:mad:.

I am going to Disney for a week before the cruise and do not want to be worrying about who can get on the ship and who will be left behind. :')

  8. We have a party of 17 people going on a cruise out of Miami in a couple weeks. I am a planner so I have had my plan in place for close to a year but some of my family members or not and so they are just now changing some things. I am not even sure how to word the question for someone to even understand what I am asking but I am going to try my best.

We have one family oceanview stateroom that will have a 22 year old, 19 year old, 17 year old, 16 year old, 2 year old, and 1 year old. The 19 year old and the 17 year old will not have a parent on the ship. The others in the room are some of my kids and grandkids. Presently I have the 22 year old signing the contract (sail pass) whatever it is that has to be signed for everyone in the room. Now it looks like the 19 year old and the 17 year old will be riding with some other family members who are staying in another room. We are getting to the port area the night before and are wanting to get on the ship as early as we can. The other car is not planning to leave their house until the morning of and then making the 10 hour drive. I don't want to just hang out in Miami waiting on them before we can board so is it possible that the adults they would be riding with add the 19 year old and the 17 year onto the setsail pass that they have to sign? I pretty much know that's possible so I guess really my concern is will they have a problem at the port if the other 4 in the room have already checked in? Is there any rule that says they all have to check in together?

I hope that makes sense and that someone else has dealt with something like this and can give me a definite yes or no.

    Thanks

  9. I have had mostly good service on the cruises that we have been on but my favorite CD- was definitely Bing-Bong and our all time favorite Stateroom attendant was Elmer on the Enchantment of The Seas in 2014. My kids loved him so much that one time when we docked next to the Enchantment they spent a lot of time trying to spot him walking around on deck.

My least favorite would probably be those we had on The Freedom of the Seas Oct 2016. I don't remember that much about the CD and our assistant waiter was very nice but the others just didn't live up to the ones we have had in the past. They didn't necessarily do a bad job and we didn't leave them a bad review but I guess after you have had some that are great you can't help but compare others to them.

  10. Self-serve soda dispensers in Windjammer on Navigator.

The normal soda dispensers or the freestyle type? If it is the normal dispenser is it open 24/7? I am trying to decide if I want to allow my preteen/teen kids the soda package and not sure they would really get their money's worth if they have to go up to ask for a drink each time.

  11. I have only parked in the indoor parking/multi story parking at Miami but from what I have seen on Google maps street view the over sized vehicle parking lot is just one big lot with secure gates/barriers at either end etc. I would suggest going on to Google maps and do a "drive around" on the streets and you get a better idea. I know they say its patrolled by security etc. and we felt that our truck was safe while we were gone for 16 days last December/January.

A lot of the Florida residents on this board recommend parking at the port in Miami rather than picking some less secure or safer options away from the port. It is more expensive but when you weigh the cost up against how much you pay for your vehicle then I think its a good choice. We will be parking there again this December.

Not much help I know but its probably their best option if they are taking a cruise out of the port. The only other option I could think of would be to park the RV at a trailer/rv park somewhere and then taxi or Uber it in from there.

Thank you! I went to Google Maps and it worked great!

  12. I am trying to do some research for my parents. They are considering driving to Florida in their RV. I have seen on the website that the cost is $40 per night and they can only park in lot 2. I have only left Miami once and we took a taxi so I don't have any idea what is what. Does anyone have any info on Lot 2?

    Thanks

  13. I am the "planner" for a family cruise with 19 people and have a question.

I have my parents in a handicap accessible room #7604 and everything was great until I came across a spreadsheet on Royal Caribbean that shows the balcony as being only 46sqft instead of the 64sqft that all the others are. I can't find anything else that says that and wonder if it is just mistake. If anyone has stayed in that room and can confirm that the balcony is smaller I would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  14. In Coco Cay we have decided to get together a few small beach toys and hand it to a child's parent. We thought about just leaving it to be found but I wouldn't ever allow my kids to just go pick up toys because I would think they belonged to someone else and we don't want to just hand something to a child because we will be strangers.
