  1. We could only get cover for a maximum of 60 days with our usual insurer so have changed to Saga now and no problem. Very reasonable to. Ive seen on other forums that saying someone is house sitting for some odd reason doesnt count as your house being occupied and not able to get cover for so long. We just notified Saga that our house would be checked at least once a week to get 100 days cover
  2. From what I understand you are able to ring the wine line when on board to order individual bottles of wine. However, it seems to say you need to order and pay for the wine packages before you go in order to get up to the package discount. This is what we have done in the past so to be honest have not tried it any other way.
  3. The wine packages need to be booked in advance except for the world cruise where you can buy one on board before the next sector starts as long as its about a day or so in advance. Also these packages dont qualify for penninsular discount as already discounted when bought. I did ring the to check this evening and this was confirmed. Ive had them before but couldnt remember if we got loyalty discount but obviously not. The individual bottles of wine are allowed the discount because they are full price. Again though as you say once on board credit has been spent. Its the same with gifts vouchers bought. Our family wanted to give us gifts in the way of money vouchers to spend how we wished but they are then added to on board spend and no discount for loyalty is given untill spent !
  4. Thank you Ive just looked but still not seeing the prices for full bottles of wine. There is a very extensive list on the P and O site but have no prices stated.
  5. We are looking for this information but the link just gives you the lists of wines/drinks available but no prices. There is however, a small list of average prices for a glass of wine, beer but says price confirmed once on board !
  6. We have checked and as we booked the whole cruise from Southampton it just counts as one holiday over 14 days. Its possible but I dont know that if we had booked the cruise in separate segments we may have got an allowance for each one but I expect that would have been more expensive to do ?
  7. We were considering buying the carnival shares this year as on the World Cruise on Arcadia in January, 99 nights. However, when I checked the FAQs it appears that the £150 OBC is as you say given on a cruise of 14 nights or more. I would have thought that by doing 99 nights we would at least been allowed perhaps a bit more at each sector but appears not from what I understand. So a bit mean I think !
  8. Yes thats right. The T and Cs say alcoholic drinks limited to 15 in 24 hours. So I suppose if you only bought 1 package and one person didnt drink alcohol then they could just take advantage of the other drinks allowed. So one could have 15 alcoholic drinks and the other any amount of non alcoholic ones. I can see now why P and O say that. Perhaps it would be better if they had one for just alcohol and one that didn't but thats not going to happen as they will assume perhaps that not that many would want 15 drinks of alcohol in a day.
  9. It does seem unfair that 2 packages have to be bought if only 1 person will take advantage of it. After all the daily limit P and O state is 15 drinks. So what does it matter who drinks them I ask ? Could be 15 for 1 person or 7 each and a half for 2 people of 5 each for 3. Still only up to the 15 drink limit.
  10. Yes of course you are right with regards to other factors which may affect the price. This was not from personal experience but comments from very regular cruisers who said there was an irregular increase that in their opinion was not related to those you mention. It was suggested, true or not that the prices were increased quite a long time before May this year so that it would not be as noticable. If its true also that the gratuities are needed to shore up perhaps low wages then the money has to come from somewhere. Some people will always tip for good service to the crew they think deserve it and others not. With so many cruiselines building new ships every year then I imagine they need to be quite competitive to get the best staff so if other cruiselines pay more because they have automatic gratuities then it stands to reason the crew will chose their ships. As always an interesting debate !
  11. P and O made a point of saying in several publications that although the automatic gratuities would be stopped after May, that didnt mean the overall cruise price would increase to reflect that. However, some people have reported that although they may not increase after May, after the announement last year the prices increased for cruises this year. Some had already booked their cruise well in advance and compared the prices noting that there was a definite increase at that time.
  12. You are allowed a glass of your chosen wine at the table and I think I am right that as long as you wait 15 minutes it can be topped up as often as you like. They just don't bring the full bottle to the table. I'm assuming this is how it works as the T and Cs look identical to other cruise companies. We have had packages on the American ships as the drinks are more expensive so worked out better value on them. Not so sure with this though as drinks cheaper of course depending how much you wish to drink. However, it has been different depending on which ship we were on. Sometimes the wine waiter was quite happy to bring the bottle and leave it on the table, others came regularly to ask if we wanted a top up. On one ship the wine waiter avoided us like the plague when we were trying to catch his eye for another glass ! So, does it depend on the wine waiter or the cruise company? Not sure we wait and see ! We for our next cruise in June will buy the wine package in advance and then other drinks as we go along. Kath
  13. Ok Brenda, Well we are travelling down to Southampton on the same day and probably around the same time. We will possibly see you at one of the service stations ! I'll have a wander round if I see an Intercruises coach asking for Brenda and you can do the same and ask for Kath lol Kath
  14. So everything is done beforehand then we just queue up for our cruise cards. Is that right ?
  15. Hello Brenda We use Eavesway coaches that come into Bolton Bus station. This leaves around 7.15am usually and I think starts off in Glasgow. Perhaps you travel with a different company ? Kath
