  1. Been offered Costa Deliziosa, Mediterranea, neo_Romantica and neo_Riviera as options for a cruise in November. I am not new to Costa, but somehow finding hard to decide (perhaps because each itinerary has at least one port I have not visited yet). Just for fun, which ship would you pick?

    Thanks!

  2. As somebody who has just booked a cabin with the metal balcony (11010) on Fantasia, I am wondering if it really makes that much of a difference from the plexiglass ones (besides aesthetically speaking). Do they make the cabin darker? Or is there something else I may not be considering?

    Thanks

  3. Just booked 11010 on Fantasia for a Med cruise in January. It seems that it is in the exact same location as 11010 on Divina. If anybody has sailed on that cabin before would apprecciate your thoughts on location, how quiet it was, etc.

    Thanks

  4. Just booked this exactly same cabin for a Med cruise next January. Now they are offered as Aurea Suites and it seems that we have a choice of when to have dinner as well as a alegrissimo drinks package included. Lets hope we also do not find any surprising changes at embarkation.

hope you enjoyed the cabin and the location

  5. If you have not cruised before, consider that lines like Costa, MSC and to some extend even RCI are like 'entry level'. They will provide a good holiday if your expectations are not too high. Ships tend to be nice and they are now so large that one sometimes do not feel the sea, etc.

A cruise is not a trip to get to know places but simply to sample them. a good way to test if you would like to one day return to this or that port or island, etc.

You do well in asking although opinions are subjective and, if you read the reviews, those complaining seem to be keener to manifest their opinion than those who liked it but still it will give you an idea of what to expect. have a look aas well on publications like the Berlitz Guide to Cruising and cruise ships which actually has a section dedicated to those doing their first cruise (what to expect, etc), etc.

But, whatever you gather as info, I would say you should give cruises a try :-)

  6. I am booking a cruise in the Med in January on MSC Fantasia and in some sites I find a call at Lindos (Rhodes) and in others at Rhodes solely. Are MSC ships actually calling at Lindos (would imagine they would have to anchor a bit far off and then tender passengers to Lindos)? Or is that an indication of a excursion destination (just like Santos in Brazil sometimes appears as São Paulo even though they are 70 km apart)?

    Thanks

  7. I have just been offered a good price on a January Med cruise on MSC Fantasia on a Aurea balcony cabin... tempted to perhaps pay the difference for a suite but not sure if the only difference would be the extra space. Would anybody know how do the balcony and the suites compare on the Aurea rates?

Are coffees also included on the drinks package? Can the drink package be 'upgraded' to Premium if the pax pays the difference (either on board or in advance)?

    Many thanks

  8. Hi there,

I did the very first cruise on the Diadema. Costa has been trying a few different things (we had dinner at the buffet on a open seating set, instead of in one of the restaurants - same menu though)

The ship is fairly nice. Not so much on the dubious taste side as many others created by Farcus (although those blue bubbles on the Atrium have to go...)

Some lounges work well while others do not. Wrap around Promenade deck is nice. Spa has a nice separate open deck. Cabin was kind of standard but some of the external ones have two bathrooms (one with a small bathtube). Service was good (probabla because it was the first cruise, staff was trying really hard). Food was not bad. Actually the second gala dinner was one of the best I ever had on board.

  9. I try to go to Venice at least once a year and generally I prefer to stay either near the station (for luggage logistics convenience) or in Lido (calmer, quieter, good food at reasonable prices and a vaporetto directly into San Marco).

Stayed in the past at the Ausonia and Hungaria which is an amazing old hotel which, at times, has some good offers. The Panorama is also good.

Near the station the Continental was a good choice as it was the Carlton Capri on the other side of the canal.

  10. On my experience, all Costa cruises I have sailed on had the policy mentioned above. What I heard that is new is that the Cigar Bar/Lounge on Costa Fascinosa was closed while the ship was in South America. A pity as it was a very civilised place on board (and I am not a smoker but it was almost always empty, tranquil, where one could have a good conversation, great bar service, and not be annoyed by other pax rude behaviour. Ships became so enclosed spaces nowadays with so limited open spaces that one notices smoking far more now than one would 30 years ago, when most lounges could get fresh air

  11. I am booked on a cruise on Classica in June, about a month from now and I came across some comments about noise in the cabin. As I booked a internal single on deck 7 (external wall should be towards the Atrium/Lobby) I was wondering if anybody has also cruised on one of those cabins and if noise is to be expected filtering through the walls.

    Many thanks

  12. Dear All,

Would anybody know if the 'Palazzo' that is Costa main office in Genova has rooms open to the public? I am asking as they seem to have an interesting collection of art works (from past ships as well as original for the office) and I was wondering if it was possible to see them when in Genova.

    Thanks
