  1. We are yjour original skinflints. That's why we own 100 shares in the line we patronize, bought at a good price. Since we prefer long cruises, we always get a hefty bonus of onboard credit. As a result, our final bill is next to nothing since we don't drink or gamble.

What perks do you get when you own stock (discounts on cruises, OBC, extras on board)? Is there a minimum number of shares to get the perks?

    Thx!

  2. I am traveling with a group of 10 on the RCCL Anthem on March 9th. I am the youngest at 55. The oldest are my in-laws as 84 and 87. They are in great shape, but starting to slow down a bit. I'd really appreciate any suggestions from experienced cruisers to make this trip the best it can be for my in-laws. Any suggestions for excursions would be appreciated. We are going to Port Canaveral, Nassau and Coco Cay. Thx!

  3. I'm glad I'm not the only one who was disappointed in the Freedom. We return last week (6/6/15). I have been on Carnival 5 times before, but my 2 most recent cruises were on Royal Caribbean. The service on Royal Caribbean was so bad the last time that I swore them off. The service we got from the staff was one of the best experiences I have had. I may have been expecting too much from the Freedom. Unfortunately, the entertainment was lacking. Thank goodness for the comedy club, because that was the only thing we found interesting to do after dinner. The production shows just didn't seem enticing when we read about them in the Fun Times.

  4. I can't believe I never saw all the responses to this thread! I'm so sorry to all the folks who were so helpful. I decided to try to figure it out again, and when I searched Google, this post came up!

After reading all your responses, I tried to add the cruise thru the Carnival website. They didn't have the older ships listed online. I decided to call customer service. The CSR was so nice. I figured out the actual date of the cruise was 9/24/1989. With that info, and the fact that it was a western itinerary, she was able to determine that it was, in fact, the Jubilee that I was on. They said they would be able to add the cruise to my account. It's not going to make a huge difference in my points since I'm at 32, even with my 8 day in Aug, I should end up at 47. I would still need 28 points to move up to Platinum. But hey, 7 more points is 7 points closer!

Bottom Line - It was the Jubilee on 9/24/1989. Thanks so much to all who responded!

  5. Just off the Freedom last week. I love cruising, so any cruise is a good cruise. :D It rained several days, not all day, but it had no effect on us. In fact, we snorkeled in the rain. Cool! We had the best waiter I've had in 9 cruises. His name was Arsenio. And Randy, our Cabin Steward was always so upbeat! While it didn't ruin my cruise, I too felt that things were *off* on Freedom. I've been on 5 previous Carnival cruises and am just off 2 consecutive Royal Caribbean cruises. I think it's all about perspective. I was terribly disappointed in my last royal caribbean cruise. I was so excited to be back on a Carnival cruise. Maybe my expectations were too high. Whatever the reason, I also felt that Freedom wasn't as good as other ships I've been on. I'm going to be on the Conquest in August, and I'm really curious to see the difference. Then maybe I will be able to figure out why I wasn't impressed with Freedom.

Btw, ignore all the people who have to make negative responses to your original post. I totally understand where you are coming from. I find it interesting that they are calling you out for being negative and then they themselves are negative to you. Geez people!

  6. H, you wrote "delightful" review. It is definitely the best I've ever seen! Great Job!

I came home from my cruise on the Freedom a week ago. We had Randy as our cabin steward too! He was so nice! Always cheerful and always knew our names.

We accidentally went into the Dr. Seuss breakfast. Looked like fun, but we were looking to eat in the mdr that day. We also saw the Dr Seuss Parade. There were so many kids in the Parade. So cool! Did you do that?

I'm glad you had a good time on your first cruise, and that your mom and gma survived. sorry H, but I have 2 kids, and even though it's been 15 years, I *vividly* remember traveling with 2 yos. ;-)

I love the pics your mom took while you were there. I am the photographer when we travel, and I always drove my kids crazy. Hang in there, one day you will be glad to have those pictures. Make sure you tell your mom to make a real album (not digital) so you can turn the pages and look at it all the time. She will be glad she did. Even with all the sticky pages. As a matter of fact, H, make them as sticky as possible. It will make it more realistic. lol!

Sorry for the long comment. Guess I got a bit nostalgic. Thanks again for your review!

  7. I have read many posts here and have determined that I want to go to Hol Chan to snorkel. The tours I have seen include a stop in Shark Ray Alley and/or stop at an island. I would rather just go to Hol Chan and have lunch on the boat. Is there a way to do this? Has anyone used a private tour company that you can recommend to take us there? We are a group of 6 adults with experience snorkeling. We will be there on Carnival Freedom on 6/3/15. Thanks!

  8. I'd love to know what ship I cruised on back in the day, but I have no idea how to find out. I can't find any pics and am really curious. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to track down the ship, or perhaps remember what ship would have been cruising to Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas in Sept. 1989??

    Thx!

  9. I stayed Midship Deck 2 on Adventure, very nice, hardly any movement.

Only noise we heard was from Studio B (Ice Rink) one night when we were in bed around 11:30, it wasn't bad, just some applause & laughing, not really that loud IMHO and we heard the doors in the hallway closing a few times I think but again, not that loud where it was annoying.

We actually booked Deck 2 again but on Explorer for our next cruise! Hope that helps!

    Happy Cruising! :)

Thank you luvfamvaca and to the other poster who commented. We ended up booking deck 3, but i expect it will be similar to deck 2. here's hoping! lol!

  10. I'm getting ready to book May 30th on Explorer. Cabins available are on Deck 2. Forward and Midship are the Theater, Conference Room and Ice Rink. I can't tell what is Aft. Can anyone tell me what it's like to stay on deck 2? I'd like to be near the elevators, but am concerned that they would be the noisiest rooms. What is it like when people are arriving and leaving shows...and how loud is it during the shows?

    Thank you.
