  1. Make sure to check your confirmation paperwork/email.

We discovered that our perks had been removed after the move up. A quick call to the Captain's Club phone line rectified the situation, a seemingly honest mistake on their part. Still, we preferred correcting this in advance of the cruise instead of on board the ship with precious vacation time wasting away at the Guest Relations desk.

  2. ...Definitely get an Oyster card as it will half your transport costs within London. You can buy a tourist Oyster card online from London Transport from £10.

OR......you can save yourself £10 and just use Apple Pay throughout the system.

The locals call it "contactless" and it is sooo much easier than fooling around buying and then pre loading the oyster card with money, followed by re loading when the card gets low on cash, or finding no machine available if you are using a bus. Not to mention not having to wait in line for a machine at the station to reload your card.

Just wave your phone (or better yet your Apple Watch!) at the turnstile and you are set to go. No fumbling with the oyster card or worse losing it and having to buy another let alone constantly reloading it or wasting left over cash when you leave London.

The best part is that the system automatically calculates the lowest fare possible for you (one-way, return, all day pass, etc.)

We used Apple Pay this last year to travel all over London and it was the best and least expensive.(y):D

  3. Does anyone know if this information is still current?;

"Self-service laundry is available onboard all ships and costs $2 per wash and $2 per dry. Individually packaged detergents/softeners are available for $1.25. Washers, dryers and dispensers take quarters or tokens."

    Thanks clear.png?emoji-smile-1742

  4. For a basic balcony, see if any of the "sweet sixteen" with larger balconies are available on deck 6 forward: Port 6021 to 6035 and Starboard 6016 to 6030. Otherwise, I would recommend a deck 7 midship; avoid deck 6 midship since most are partially obstructed by the lifeboats.

If Aqua Class is within your budget, I heartily recommend it for the use of the Blu restaurant - the choices are deck 9 under the pool deck with the shading from the extention of the pool deck, or deck 11 above the Oceanview Cafe. We had cabin 9038 with the triangular balcony last Oct/Nov on a B2B from Yokohama to Hong Kong to Singapore.

    Have a wonderful cruise.

Thank you so much for the useful information! Don't know if we would really appreciate the Blu restaurant enough to justify the additional expense, so the basic balcony recommendation/information is great!

  5. Not to disagree with Fat Albert but some hospitals do have landing pads that a USCG helicopter can land at. Also, there are times when an ambulance will meet the helicopter and take the patient from there directly to the hospital.

As a retired paramedic, I can confirm that Cheeseclan is absolutely correct. I have personally been winched into a USCG helicopter along with my patient and landed at the hospital directly and safely.

  6. Patrick is thought to have been born in WALES!

'Patrick, or Padrig in Welsh, was born around 387 AD and was known as Maewyn (Welsh for devoted friend) Succat (a Pagan term for warlike).

He is believed to have come from Bannavem Taburniae, which could be Banwen in Neath Port Talbot, where every year a service is held in his honour.'

Sorry, but Patrick was born in SCOTLAND!

It appears that the only thing scholars can agree on is that Patrick was probably born somewhere in Britain. :D:D

  7. It would be interesting to hear from people who have had things returned to them from the lost and found departments of ships and hotels.

Sent from my Kestrel using Forums mobile app

Accidentally left my SCOTTeVEST loaded with iPad, cables, reading glasses, chargers, noise cancelling headphones, etc. in a hotel in Phoenix.

Realized it two days after we left. Fortunately our trip included going back through Phoenix a few days later. All was there waiting for us at the desk, untouched!

Makes me think there are far more good stories than bad. People love to talk about the bad and proportionately not so much about the good because we just expect the good in people and don't feel the need to blather on about it. It seems to be a good thing that our expectations are most often met! :):):)

  8. We have to agree that this makes no sense.

We've had NO issues on several different types of devices, both land based and cellular access.

Additionally when I contacted my friends from Oregon to Florida and NONE of them had any problems booking on Royal.

Don't know what to say at this point.

  9. Tough crowd. Mr. Bouhunter with his normal snarky non helpful response and others piling on.

George here is the current drink menu for vouchers. While bloody Mary isn't specified it would seem to fall under non alcoholic drink (tomato juice) plus the allowed vodka. The Concierge or food and beverage manager should have been able to provide an answer on board

    Couldn't agree more!:)
