  1. We have purchased the 3 night package for specialty dining.  In the explanation is says that they will reserve your first night for day 1 or day 2.  My question is do you have to go on either day 1 or day 2 or can you just make all your own reservations when you board the ship for whichever days you want as long as there is availability.

This will be my 4th cruise. All have been with Royal and always with other family members. Originally this November cruise was also going to be with either my step sister or a cousin. But then I had an idea....or several brain farts....this trip is on MY bucket list...I paid for it...I'm the one working fulltime....I'm juggling family (multiple generations under my roof) obligations....I NEED A BREAK.

The answer was right there in my cruise planner. I called the TA and streamlined that reservation. 1 guest. ME!!!

I'm not sure what I'm looking forward to the absolute most. Could it be the cruise itself? The alone time? The new Crossword puzzle book that I haven't opened yet? The new titles that I've loaded on my kindle to read? The excursions that are exactly what I want to do? The choice of where I want to eat? When I want to eat? How about that drink package? Let's not forget that no one else will be sharing my bathroom or bedroom space. I don't have to remind anyone else to take their meds. Their health and happiness has absolutely NOTHING to do with me.

Why haven't I done this sooner?

I have been reluctant to fly alone. I don't love flying and thought that I'd feel safer traveling with someone else. That line of thought is malarkey. My traveling companions have never been pilots or aircraft mechanics. They couldn't help me change a tire on my bike. If anything they've added to my list of worries. Can they keep up changing gates? Do they have all their documents? id? I tend to go in mother hen mode and assume responsibility for those in my "care". They've been perfectly happy to let me assume that role of planner.

My last cruise was the turning point. My "AHA" moment of sorts. Traveling companion "enjoyed" poor health the entire trip. Couldn't be bothered getting dressed to go get something to eat. Wanted me to order Room service for her. Claimed she didn't know how. WHAT???!!! I came back from dinner to find the room service tray sitting on MY BED. Not on the desk. Not on the nightstand. Right smack in the middle of my freshly made bed. That's just 1 example from the 7 night trip.

My divorce was final this past year. My sons are both grown, married and have started families of their own. My step father passed away and my Mom moved in with me because she didn't feel comfortable living alone. My youngest son and his family are building a new home. Their previous home sold much quicker than expected so they moved in with me. My step sister's poor health ( NOT!!) keeps her from experiencing life (ie. holding a job) so she moved in too. There is literally NO ROOM AT THE INN!!

So if yall see me getting really, really excited for this coming trip, please celebrate with me. I'm flying out Thanksgiving Day and setting sail on Friday. No cooking. No dishes. NO WORRIES!!!

    Hi Iris.

I will be on this sailing as well......going solo for the first time ever! Are you on the cruise critic roll call?

  3. I already have Navigator booked in November and I also added Allure for 2019 while I was onboard. FYI, they STILL do reduced deposits onboard but ONLY for non-refundable bookings.

I think inspired my wife who is a waaaay better writer than I. I suspect we may try to do one then. In November, Aruba, Bonaire and Caracao are ports which are new to us.

I’m not quite done here yet. There’s still tomorrow morning, but since its going to be early, I’m pretty much done for the night.

Great job on your live review. Are you planning on doing one for Navigator? We are sailing along with you

  4. IMO the best of the cabins you list is 9262 - slightly aft close to the aft elevators on the port side. I got 6662 (same location on the starboard, but three decks lower) as a guarantee in March and was very happy with its location. Anthem is a big ship and like most RCL ships, being close to the aft elevators gives you better access to the most frequented areas on the ship.

Hi...how bad was the obstruction on the balcony? Sorry I know this thread is old.

  5. We just got cancelled again for Dec 1st. This time by the San Juan Marriott Resort & Casino. I did just book a hotel through booking.com after speaking with the Hotel first. It's the Casa del Caribe Inn located at 57 Caribe Street, Condado 00907............spoke to Omar at the Hotel and after he received the reservation from booking he called me. He also mentioned that there are restaurants open in that area. Not the Ritz, but they are operating on generators and have running water.

I just got off the phone with Marriott Stellaris yesterday and they said my reservation on November 25th was still good. What the heck? Why did they cancel your booking for December 1st? Did they give you a reason?

  7. I just heard back from Marriott Stellaris, confirming that my reservation for Nov 25 is still intact. It was sent by Marriott corporate so I will call the hotel directly to confirm

Online Marriott had no rooms available, but when I called Marriott Stellaris directly I got a non-refundable room booked and she insured me they were open as of November 1st. I really hope so as this is my last option I think.

A warning for others.......please call the hotel directly (if you can get through) as a lot of websites are still taking reservations but when you call them directly they are not open to the public. This has been the most frustrating cruise of mine to plan in a long time!!

  8. On the Grandeur the filet has been replaced by a pretty sad NY strip steak. The quality is not nearly as good. This change occurred after the price to dine there went up!

This is extremely disappointing.......one of the main reasons I could convince my DH to dine there was the filet. I guess it will be only Chops for us on our upcoming Jewel cruise. :(

  9. I'm on the Jewel of the Seas right now, and was very disappointed to find that during their recent renovation, they took out the Thermal Spa and replaced it with additional rooms. You can see on the map how there's one small hallway of rooms, totally out of place, in the middle of the spa area on Deck 11.

The spa upgrade is one of the things I look forward to most on a cruise, as I feel it's a way to be affordably pampered throughout the cruise. As soon as I got on board, I went up to the spa to sign up for it, did the tour, got to the end of the tour, asked where the thermal spa was, and learned it had been recently removed.

This alone turns me off of RCL as a customer, as the spa upgrade is one of my absolute favorite things on a cruise.

Do they still have the dry/steam sauna rooms?
