  1. Wow, Angie, great review and pics! I think that is the same itinerary we are going on too! I've been to all but Amber Cove, but the rest of my group hasn't been to any of the ports so I'm very excited for them to check it all out!

I'm also a Disney freak and former CM, with one former workplace the Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge. It's a magical place to work! :)

  2. We're actually going on the Magic in late summer, so it will be fun to be able to see the differences between the two classes. I have 2 boys, 4 and 7. They are going to love it. We did DCL when the 7yo was 3 and the youngest was a baby, so he remembers, but not a ton.

I totally agree about seating near kids areas, sometimes designers just don't think logically.

  3. We just booked the Fantasy out of Mobile 4 day Easter cruise. We choose the Fantasy because of the carnival waterworks for my 9 year old and now they have guys burgers, red frog rum bar and blue iguana tequila bar.

So, AngieM, I decided upon the Fantasy out of Mobile too! Flying in and out of New Orleans with some time on each side of the cruise to check out New Orleans since we have never been there before, so we are excited about sort of having 2 trips in 1.

I do have two kids with me and I knew they of course would want the Waterworks too!

Thank you all for your tips and ideas and now I'm off to the Roll Call!

  4. Thanks for your tips Shadedlady and Intrepid. It is Hobby and I am planning on flying in the night before, possibly renting a car at airport and just parking it near/at Port while gone because we have a whole day to putz around until a late flight. I know it seems dumb to rent a car just to park it, but I thought the price of 2 shuttles from airport and what to do all day without a vehicle may be worth the wasted cash. I need to look into this more. I know Port Canaveral tends to have a couple "Stay here, park here" hotels near the Port so I was considering staying at one of those for that option if they have it.

I'm also interested in that Mobile cruise, Fantasy, as well. I just didn't know if could work out the logistics. I would have to do the rental car thing there too as I'd have to fly into Pensacola at the closest and Birmingham at the farthest options. Sigh...such is life planning a last minute trip where you want it all to fall into place! :)

  5. Hey there, first time Carnival cruiser. I'm trying to decide between an Easter 2017 4 day. With price being similar and transportation to port being similar (flying on SWA points), would you choose the Valor out of Galveston or Elation out of Jacksonville? Ports of call do not matter either. Thanks!

  6. This is a great thread for me too! We are planning a family trip with a few families on the Vista in August 17 but things are filling up. We were pumped for the Vista being new, the Family Harbor, and just the cool stuff it has. But...this Splendor itinerary (we can't go on the same Vista one because of school starting) on August 19th is very interesting and totally different for all of us. Hard to compare the two ships, but this itinerary is attractive!!

  7. Thank you, seriously, for your super awesome review! I don't want to go against your husband, but NO, we can't find out all of that information on Carnival's site! I will be copying/pasting your dining lineup (because, really, that is the most important thing FOOD!!) in an email to my family who are hopefully all sailing together this August. Thanks again!

  8. I am a former WDW CM so I have some friends who have worked DCL in the past. One was a server from Canada and he made a ton with exchange rate and all (back when DCL was first started). One was in the office, and one was entertainment. Like Rigano said, entertainment cannot be compared to any of the other positions on the boat (maybe because of the union as well?).

I did a program similar to the CP at Disneyland Paris and I had to buy my ticket there, but they purchased my return flight as part of my contract (I was just a normal attractions worker, no entertainment).

  9. Thanks for posting the pics -- what was the champagne waterfall with streamers all about?

On the second formal night they do a waterfall and you can help pour the champagne with the Maitre'd. They gave out streamers and really, I was just trying to use the fancy stuff on my camera to take a picture with the streamers in mid-flight.

    Spicey477,

How did you get back to the ship? Did you ask the Bohio folks to call a cab for you or did you ask the cab driver to come back? Thanks!

Actually, we told our taxi driver to come back and pick us up at 1pm, and he told us his name before we left. We really felt like leaving around 12, so we asked the front desk if they would call him to have him come early, and he was there within 3 minutes. There were other taxis there, but I didn't want him to come back for us at 1pm and we would have been gone already.

I posted your 'mini-review' on my roll call board and now looks like I will have a huge entourage joining me cuz of your wonderful comments!

Will let you know how it goes!

    Frouf:D

Oh, Frouf, how we wish we were going with you guys again!! When we gave ourselves a mini-review, we said it just wasn't the same without you two and the Potters!

    Have a great time!!

  10. Hey everyone,

I am back from my fantastic cruise (Crown Princess) and a great day at the Bohio Dive Resort!

First let me say that there were only 14 other people on the beach, it was awesome! The snorkeling was good, we went pretty far out and I didn't feel that it was too scary or anything like that, there is barely any surf. The sand was like flour, so soft, and we walked along the beach and saw some cool shells and stuff. Like above posters have mentioned, there really isn't much there at all, but it was a nice get away from the hustle and bustle of the ship.

We took a taxi and I believe it was $7pp each way, it wasn't bad, and he took us through Cockburn Town and by the salt pits and told us all about them. Winemistress, I would not recommend getting scooters only because there really isn't much on Grand Turk and imo, you would be wasting your money. Plus, I personally did not see any scooter rentals near the port. I think the taxi drive to Bohio through Cockburn Town is plenty enough sightseeing.

The taxi dropped us off and we went into the main lobby and she forwarded us to the dive shop which is adjacent to the beach. The woman who helped us said it was free to go on the beach (the pool was empty and there was a guy doing work/powerwashing around it) and if we wanted, we could pay $10pp for a beach chair. We paid just because we felt bad coming to use their beach for free. I only saw a breakfast menu at the time, so I can't comment on a lunch/dinner menu. There was a sign at the pavillion at the beach that said that burgers were $12.

The chairs were nice, and the beach really was great. We left with enough time to do some shopping at the port which wasn't that great, just save your $$ for St. Thomas if that is on your itinerary. Overall I would definitely recommend the Bohio resort and I think that for relaxation, beautiful water/beach, it is the best option for Grand Turk.

Froufie, have a blast, I can't wait to hear how your cruise goes!!!

Here is my photo album, and Grand Turk is the first stop so if you want to speed through the photos just to see the pics of Bohio, please be my guest:

  11. Thank you so much for answering my questions! I really look forward to checking it out and it just seems so cool!

I will post a review of my visit at Bohio when I get back!

    Thanks again!

  12. Do you need to make a reservation with them in advance to use the lounger/beach/pool or snorkel equipment? We are going on the Crown in 3 weeks and I really want to stay away from the Margaritaville crowds and do some nice snorkeling.

Also, like Scarlet asked above, when you say "swim out far" is it scary far??

Lastly, was it hard to find a taxi to go back to the port, or did you tell your taxi to come back at a certain time?

    Thanks!
