  1. I was at Junkanoo Beach just a few days ago with my 19 year old daughter, just us two girls. I did not see any trash or glass. We rented chairs and umbrella from Byron at the tiki shack bar by the bath room/shower, not far from Fat Tuesdays. My daughter got some unwanted attention from a guy that was a fellow passenger on our ship and Byron was quick to make sure we were doing ok. Yes, there were locals around.....they offered hair braiding, jewelry, etc but took no for an answer and we received no pressure.

I thought the bathrooms were dirty and smelly but kind of similar to what I have found at other public beach facilities.

I think because the OP has a small child, I would recommend the resort day pass. Otherwise, I think Junkanoo offers a more authentic Bahamian experience.

After dozens of trips to Nassau, I can honestly say this was my best experience there yet!

  2. If Cabbage Beach is the public beach just past Atlantis, there is a small resort just up the stairway from the beach that has an open air restaurant/bar. If you buy a soda or a beer, they let you use their restrooms......maybe even without buying, I didn't try that because we wanted drinks. We had a decent lunch there too. Much more convenient than going back to Atlantis.

Fwiw, we just had a great day at Junkanoo Beach, walking distance from the dock in Nassau,, full facilities but not on Paradise Island.

  3. I just did this in mid September! We pre-arranged it with a driver ahead of time but I'm not sure that is absolutely necessary. I believe, no matter how many people you have, its $60 pp/rt. Pretty pricey but they wait for you and drive you back because otherwise you are stuck in the middle of nowhere. We used a lady called Paddy (maybe Patty?)....I think it was Paddy. There were 6 of us. For extra $$, she even had a picnic & cooler of beverages for us....again expensive, but possible. Someone else in our party was doing the planning on this so I just went along with it.

If I were to do it again, I would rent a car right there at the port....very reasonable price when I checked & then head out there on my own. Once you leave the port hustle & bustle, its very easy & you can find straight forward directions. Much, much cheaper & if you wanted to bring your own food, you could stop at a local shop. There were no food options at Gold Rock Beach or even nearby. There was a toilet facility closeby...but not right there at the beach.

Just found this....I believe its the lady we used: Paddy's Cell: 242 442 4380, Home: 352 6418 and email: paddytaxitour@gmail.com

Feel free to ask me any other question on this....

  4. March, 1998, Costa Romantica out of South Florida to Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Jamaica. I thought the ship was absolutely gorgeous and sparkling clean. Service was awesome. White-glove escort to our cabin....I just remember shiny wood & brass...it seemed so elegant....I wonder how it would look to me now after seeing the bigger & newer ships? It definitely hooked us....wish I could cruise more often!
