  1. We are looking at the Triumph Aft Extended Balcony cabins and I am hoping for some insight on which deck (6, 7 or 8) would be best to book. I am mainly interested in the balcony itself and if there is an overhang on some decks and not others. Plus, between these three decks, do these balconies appear to be the same basic size, or does one deck seem larger? Hope this makes sense. Thank you in advance!

  2. Carnival does hire Americans. My daughter worked two contracts with Carnival on the Carnival Valor and Carnival Miracle as a Camp Carnival Counselor. On the Valor there was another American working with her. So, yes they do. But, the Americans were definitely the minority on both ships.

  3. I have never had a problem bringing my camera equipment on a cruise. I usually bring a dSLR, multiple lenses, flashes and a tripod. My husband does the same, in fact he often brings a light stand, too. We spend a large part of the cruise with our cameras all over the ship. No one has ever said anything to us … other than a few people and ship's photographers interested in what we were doing.

The only place we weren't allowed to bring them was on the Behind the Fun Tour … but, there were no electronics whatsoever allowed.

  4. We love these four day cruises and have sailed them many times, mostly on Carnival Inspiration. We are changing ships to the Carnival Imagination for our next cruise to get a different decor. Both ships are the same in terms of how they are set up ... the decor is just different. And, like xbatt8 said above ... the show offerings will be different. Other than that, there really isn't much difference.

Hope you have a great cruise!

  5. That's because you're crossing over to Canada on the excursion and therefore will need a valid passport.

This is true. We rented a car in Skagway and drove the Klondike Trail, passing into Canada. On return we had to show our passports to get back across the Canada border. I think we had to show it going into Canada, as well.

  6. yes, they definitely are. and yes, they are definitely doing it on purpose ...

they are moving away from the farcus period, and more in line with the competition, which has similar venues, on even varied ships, and each and every one of them, are within a new brand created by carnival, similar to what other cruise lines have done.

I completely agree. I like the new direction and 'branding' that Carnival is doing with her ships. While I love sailing different ships and seeing the 'new' designs and decor … I really love that I can count on the familiarity that Carnival has within her ships. It's comforting and makes our cruising vacation not only exciting, but a 'home away from home.'

  7. I love the Empress Deck on the Inspiration (as well as the other Fantasy Class ships). I have stayed in a Porthole, an Inside and an Ocean View all either Forward or Mid-ship on this deck. We have also never heard more noise from this location either. I really like how close we have been to the Atrium Lobby and all her grandness! Such fun and a great way to start a trek around the ship each day.

The convenience factor alone is why we have chosen the Empress Deck again for our next cruise on the Inspiration (next week, woo hoo!). Have a great cruise!

  8. While I love the Fantasy Class ships (Fascination is one), the OV rooms do not compare in size to other Carnival ships. They are more comparable to the size of an Inside … only with a window. They do not have the couch (as other OV's have) nor the space that adds to the room.

The Deluxe Ocean Views on the Dream are built really for a family such as yours. They offer sleeping for up to five, with a couch (and the space that adds) as well as two washrooms (with a shower in one and shower/tub in the other).

Whichever you choose … hope you enjoy your family cruise! :)

  9. FYI Robin - There is an active roll call for "our" dream cruise in January!

Thank you Gary & Debbie, I will check it out! :)

Once onboard, we took a second to take in the grandeur of the atrium. That is one thing I love about cruising...that first glimpse at the beautiful artistry that goes into the atrium. This one did not disappoint. It was grand, magnificent and colorful.

I love walking into the Atrium, too! I am always impressed by the size and grandeur of it all … really sets the cruise off right for me. We haven't been on the Dream yet, by your photo her atrium won't disappoint! Thank you for posting photos of the ship! :)

  10. Hey, this tread is a couple months old. Any new hints & ideas about the Splendor. My wife & I will be on board starting 6/26 for a week. As fast as things get posted on this BB a tread can get old in an hour, much less then a couple of months :)

This thread was very helpful when planning for our Splendor cruise last August ... it's nice to see it surface again! There were four of us in one Balcony Cabin (Myself, DH, DD & DS-both 16) but we had a great time despite the closeness, LOL! Here's a tip: If the Lido Buffet is crowded and you can't find a table, walk up the stairs behind the Dessert area to the Rotisserie ... we never had any trouble finding space up there AND the chicken was fabulous!:)

Have fun and enjoy your cruise!

  11. We were on the Imagination just prior to her Evolutions of Fun upgrades, so I really appreciate your photos and seeing how she changed. I will agree with you about the pool ... I remember it was so crowded when we were on her (human soup cauldron I believe you called it) that we never went in it once! Guess some things never change!:D

Thank you for the review, it was nice revisiting the Imagination.

  12. Just returned from the Splendor a week ago and have been writing a review. I had no idea what a process it was and now that I've begun it seems it's more of a travel diary with personal reflections than an objective overview.

My question is....What would the readers here like to read?

I've included, below, the beginning of my diary, so to speak. I'm new to this whole posting on a forum so do, please, bear with me.

Let me know what you think.....

I enjoy reading all of the ship reviews, whether I'm booked on the cruise or not. I have read many different styles and formats ... and I have to say that none are wrong, and I have found helpful information in each. I think what makes Reviews so great is that they come from your specific point of view ... with that said I think that whatever format you choose to tell your tale will be perfect.

So far, I think your review is fabulous, I like your format and it shows us a little about you. Plus, reading about someone's cruise vacation is as close to being on one as we can get (until, of course, we actually go!).

Thank you for taking the time to write it, for sharing your experience with us and for allowing us to go on a virtual vacation through you. I'm looking forward to our MR cruise soon on the Splendor and can't wait to read more!:)

P.S. We are looking forward to our first balcony on the Lido deck ... your details were VERY helpful!

  13. Or if you just click on the link below, it will take you to my Splendor videos on youtube.

Thanks for the video link ... I enjoyed watching your Splendor trip! It helps to see the ship and ports from a passengers point-of-view ... looks like you had a good time! I look forward to watching your other videos as well. :)

  14. Can anyone answer the sushi question??:)

This is from Carnival's Web site:

The Sushi Bar located on the Promenade Deck is open nightly prior to the dinner hours. Sake is available at a nominal cost.

Haven't actually been ON the ship yet ... so, maybe someone who has can let us know if this is right. DH and DD will most likely be at the Sushi Bar daily ... hopefully they'll still be hungry for the MDR!
