  1. just want to know how early would you need to be up on deck to enjoy a seat at sailaway from Sydney harbour on the solstice.i would presume pretty early to get a good spot, and which is the best spot to be in

  2. thank you fouremco, I have just received an answer from celebrity cruise lines direct, and you are correct

    here it is

    Sydney to Hawaii

    premium drinks package book on ship $59.00 per day x 18 days = $1062.00 + 15% gratuities = $1062.00 x 15% = $1221.30 absolutely no more to pay

    premium drinks package book online $54.00 perday x 18 days = $972.00 + 15% gratuities = $972.00 x 15% = $1117.80 absolutely no more to pay.

you can have as many drinks as you like with the rules that apply to cost levels etc.

    no sharing allowed.

the above is in Australian dollars

thank you, I am clear on this matter now

  3. I know it probably has been discussed a thousand times, but to save my sanity, just one question,if I purchase the premium drinks package on the celebrity solstice '' are there any tips / gratuities to be paid on that package at the end of the cruise''

    thank you

  4. my wife and I have been on 5 cruises so far in five years (were addicted)and we have just booked our sixth cruise from Sydney to Hawaii in april 2015

we 'never" book a cruise just for the sake of cruising, but more importantly for the venues etc.we always have a balcony cabin, and mostly do our own excursions.

I will list the cruises and ships as follows

1st cruise carnival spirit one way Vancouver to seaward, terrific cruise, and a great fun ship

2nd Holland America 'volendam' Australia and around new Zealand, great cruise, and a very homely type ship.

3rd Norwegian jade mediteranian great cruise and great ship

4th msc poesia Germany to icelend, great cruise and great ship.

5th diamond princess Bangkok to Sydney, great cruise beautiful ship

6th celebrity solstice Sydney to Hawaii 2015 ?????

so as you can see a different cruises to different places,i honestly can say, we had nothing to complain about on any of these cruises or ships,we were alive and enjoying, so what more could we want.

the only thing I would say is that we still feel that the volendam was the most homely comphy of all the cruise ships we have been on,but the food and service on 'all' of them were just terrific.

hope this helps you a little bit

  5. what currency is used in Tahiti/ bora bora etc,is it better to just exchange some u.s or aus dollars at the pier or bank, or is it better to get it before we go.any one have any idea on the cost of say a beer and glass of white wine, and meals in these places.

  6. we will be in moorea / Papeete / and bora bora on the celebrity solstice Sydney to Hawaii in april.we are not snorkling type folk, and have seen plenty of waterfalls and rainforests in our time, so we would probably not want to do tours of that nature, but any advise on things not to miss on shore, like great markets or eateries or views etc would be appreciated.

as you would all mostly know,we will only be in these ports for a day or part thereof so not a lot of time to see a great lot.

of course if there is a tour that includes views / markets/ eateries / 'some' waterfalls, then something like that would do fine.

    cheers

  7. I am wondering on how a drinks package really works,i know there are different levels and types, but how in fact do they work.i am now mostly confined to a wheel chair so if I buy a drinks package can my wife go and get my drink with my card, and also one for herself if she does not have a drinks package.

we only have the occasional drink through the day,but like to go to a good spot after dinner and have one or two before retiring to bed.

my wife does like her latte and I don't mind a nice smoothy.

I am asking how these thinks work, and not what they cost or the type.we have never bought a drinks package, but thought it might be worth a try.thank you

  8. hello bhughey,

I know what your going through,we lost our little girl on nov 29 last year while on a cruise from Bangkok to Sydney.

she was ill when we left, but both our vet and ourselves were confident she would be waiting when we got back home,we left here with our daughter (she bought her for us) some 14 years earlier.our little baby was a chocolate brown mini poodle, and we just loved her to bits, and she to us.we had lots of hugs and cuddles before we left her, and just incase of the unexpected, I made a coffin and dug her plot in our back yard in a spot she loved to be.

we were sitting on our balcony watching a storm having a cold drink when our daughter rang to say our girl had gone backwards, and her organs were shutting down at a rapid rate and advise was from our vet to make her passing as painless as possible,i asked my daughter to tell the vet to help our girl go peacefully, and I hung up the phone,my daughter rang me and my wife back some ten minutes later to say she had gone to heaven, and just then a huge rainbow appeared over the ocean,we believe it was out girl saying goodby.she had a wonderfull life and wanted for nothing,my only regret was we were not there to say good by in person.we miss here badly everyday, but at least we can walk down to her plot in our back yard and say hello when ever we want. I know some people will think we are mad,but they can steal your heart.

if I had that time over, no I would not have gone on the cruise, loss of money or whatever I wouldn't care.

their is more to life thank money.

its a hard decision, just follow your heart

    keep well

  9. great replies, thank you gonzo 70 terrific info.

I should have mentioned it is the celebrity solstice we will be on.

now could I get some info on what and where are the best full suite cabins on this ship,we don't like the bow, but anywhere mid to aft is fine

    thank you

  10. hello fellow critics,

my wife and I are considering a cruise in april 2015, Sydney to Hawaii.

we have cruised 5 times before, but never on the celebrity line, can you help with info in regards to the difference between an aqua class balcony and a full suite i know the suite will be bigger etc, but by how much, and what are the perks that go with a suite over and above aqua.

for those that have sailed in both, al information will be greatly appreciated

    thank you

  11. my wife and i were in alexandria last year, and i had booked a full day tour with ramses tours over the internet before we left australia.no deposit required, and the cost was $100.00 aus each for the whole day, left port alexandria in a virtually new 8 seater mini bus (my wife and i with driver and tour guide)we were the only ones in the last mini bus so we got it good.

stopped for a drink /relief stop about half way to giza, went to the pyramids entry included in $100.00 took camel ride (extra cost) then had old boat ride and superb three course lunch ,all included in $100.00.the guide and driver could not have been better, and the guide will keep the touts away from you at the pyramids.

amazing to lean against and touch something 4000 years old.

it was a wonderful 14 hour day, vehicles are well kept aircon mini vans or cars.

behind the streets in alexandria . cairo ,giza ,are not that clean, but hey it's their country

we were so pleased with the day we gave the driver and guide an extra $50.00 usd each

it would have cost us $400.00 usd booking this trip from our ship, and that would have been in a big coach with another 40 or so people,so $300.00 all up was good for us.

go with ramses they are excellent

  12. my wife and i used ramses tours " i booked on the internet" before we left australia.

everything went like clockwork, 13hr x 1 day round trip from alexandria to cairo and back

new ''clean'' vehicle, and the guide was terrific

this was in january this year

and for a very modest tip, they keep the sellers away from you at the pyramids / sphinx

    use them,they are teriffic

    have a lovely cruise
