  1. Exactly.

I've also read lots of reports of "slip and fall" injuries on slippery decks/stairs onboard the ship. Just an accident, but could be costly, if you don't have insurance.

Maybe I was lucky, but on a HAL cruise a few years back, I stumbled down a stairway on the way to the muster drill. Not the ship's fault; my rubber soles "caught" on the carpet. I managed to make it through the muster and the first day. That night I was in agony. I couldn't turn over in bed (not quite sure why since it was my knee that was hurt). Anyway, we trooped on down to the medical center with no worries as we had travel insurance. I talked to the nurse, then security (!!!), then the doc. They took xrays and gave me a knee brace (like a boot but for the knee). He offered me drugs but that seemed like overkill. I got phone calls of apology and well wishes; I got a delivery of chocolate covered strawberries. I was certainly expecting to pay for the medical attention but I got no bill at all. (I think they were worried I was going to sue or something... not that I ever mentioned such a thing.)

So, I had insurance with the potential of needing it but didn't have to use it. Do I have insurance for my next cruise? Sure do!

  2. RobinAnn, your link does not open up.

    That's convincing, huh? :)

    How about this one?

I only researched it because it didn't make sense to me that an "open package" could last 28 days at room temp but a sealed one couldn't. Looks like it was designed to be accessible for normal travel at moderate temps. (I'm sure I'd attempt to keep it cold, but it seems like it would be good to know that it could withstand some time at room temp -- thinking someone out backpacking or something.)

  3. As an aside, the Novolog "Complete Prescribing Information" notes that unopened vials can be held at room temperature for 28 days (page 24 of the above document). Refrigeration would extend the shelf-life. (Of course follow your physician's direction, but if you want documentation for your Dr. to review, there it is.) (Lantus has the same 28 days at room temp unopened suggestion on its "Complete Prescribing Info".)

  4. not to downplay it but, what does near drowning mean? .....Sreiously I would like to know how NEAR the drowning was

Near drowning means all but dying from being under water.

If someone drowned, it means they died. Near drowning is the stage right before dying underwater. There are many serious complications that can occur from near-drowning.

  5. I loved having jewelry remade just for me.

My husband had a brooch of his mother's that we had made into a wedding ring for me (combo engagement/wedding). The stones were very old mine-cut diamonds and the gold was, well, gold.

We finally found a jeweler who not only helped us design a piece unique to me and the diamonds. I really like channel set diamond jewelry but because of the cut (and size variation) of my stones, I couldn't have a true channel.

Then I realized I was hanging on to my mother's engagement ring from her second husband (a really nice diamond along with a dainty pendant she had made from the diamond from my father and some other jewelry. I'm not dainty and would never have worn her engagement ring so we had this pendant made.

And while rooting around my jewelry box, I found a half tennis bracelet (diamonds only on half of the bracelet) that I had converted to a dangling pendant.

journeyJPG.jpg Haven't really worn it much so it might turn into something else someday.

  6. I hope you can be excused! I know how frustrating it can be.

Every state is different. When I was summoned 2 years ago, they were in the process of interviewing us and when a lady was asked if there was any reason she felt she could not serve if she is requested to, she advised the judge she and her family were leaving that next morning for vacation. He said that was not his problem and he could not excuse her for that.

So, it is not that simple of getting out of it.

Yeah, though I think this person's problem was she didn't ask for a deferral right when she got the summons (in CO the summons come at least a month ahead of time). What did this juror do, plan the vacation the day before she had to report?

Not that my experience is vast, but in both CO and CA I've found the deferral process fair. Some hoops to jump through, but if you eventually serve, they let you defer (per their rules).

  7. Appreciate your brother's tip but you should know that most passengers would certainly have gone looking for their bag were it not delivered to the cabin by say, oh, 8:00 pm. There was absolutely no reason your brother needed to be without his bag for three days.

    .

Brother was on honeymoon. Probably didn't think to get dressed for three days and then found bags missing. :)

  8. Was on a "square dancing" cruise to Alaska in 2012. The square dancing national convention was in Spokane, followed by the Alaskan cruise.

On embarkation day, I tripped down the stairs going from the Lido to the muster drill. I wrenched my knee really badly. I made it to muster but was in horrible pain all the first night. (I couldn't turn over in bed due to whatever I pulled.)

On the first full cruise day we went to the medical center on board and got my knee looked at. Of course security was involved since I fell. Luckily nothing was broken and I they put me in a knee brace. (HAL covered all the medical costs.)

After a day at sea, I was able to participate in the dancing at sea and go on my excursions. I did however come down with a horrendous cold. I was a real mess.

THEN, I went salmon fishing and caught a ~150 pound halibut but couldn't keep it because it wasn't in season where we were.

All in all, I still had a great cruise.
