You don't mention where you are sailing. Some places roughness is more likely, and any ship will move with the seas.

Hi, in my May cruise on Koningsdam I was in an inside spa stateroom. Oceanview cabins are a little bit larger with a small sofa, bathroom is the same. The differences with other standard cabins are: access to yoga mats, an iPod docking station, Loofah mitt, pedometer, bath salts, Vitamin Water (not complementary) and a special Spa Service Menu, but we hadn't neither bath salts nor special Spa menu. In my opinion these staterooms can be interesting only for position. They are on 9 and 10 decks , next to Spa , lido market buffet, swimming pool....

Hi, in my May cruise on Koningsdam I was in an inside spa stateroom. This cabin , although Spa , is the same both in size , both in the furnishings to any standard inside cabin. Perhaps only the colors are different.

Frankly speaking , during my cruise I have heard many annoying vibrations , especially in my cabin. Also my sister suffered seasickness a couple of times , although the sea was fairly calm,therefore I would choose a more central cabin on a lower deck.

These interior cabins are small enough , our cruise had many stops and we were not in the cabin for a long time but for a transatlantic maybe I would choose a more comfortable cabin.

Yes, there is a shelf as long as the sink, where is inserted a trash can. The shower is big and confortable.

I'm Italian, so... also my English isn't perfect! I was on Koningsdam two weeks ago. Lido buffet is almost all served . Desserts , some sandwiches, some salad are self service.

I think I was on the same sailing as you, if yours ended last Monday (May 9). I was also in an inside, albeit a regular one (very aft of ship, where the room layout is "parallel" to the length of the ship).

 

I was curious to see how a spa (or at least, non-sideways) inside would look different, but your cabin actually looked the same as mine (with a shinier bedspread :)). I thought maybe a "large" inside would have room for the chair we were both missing. I assume the upgrade was entirely in the bathroom, then?

Thank you. Yes inside sateroom is small, moreover this is an inside Spa stateroom , that on Holland brochure is defined "large interior stateroom", but I don't think that there are cabins smaller than this one...

I recived a free upgrade from a standard stateroom to this one ,so for me was fine, but if I had paid nearly double for this spa stateroom , I would be very disappointed.

What was your favorite things of your cruise and maybe not so good things?

This for me was first Holland cruise. I sailed on Costa, Royal Caribbean,Celebrity, Oceania and Cunard.

I have to admit to being a little disappointed about some aspects. Some members of Lido Market staff, for example, weren't very attentive. It seemed that they didn't see where there was need for them, perhaps because they were still inexperienced. In the MDR more than an evening we found dirty tablecloths. However all staff was very nice.I didn't like lack of presentation of the captain and his staff. Beautiful and modern ship but there aren't quiet and comfortable spots to read a book, for instance. Good food and good choice. Nice and well curated staterooms. Excellent music on Lincoln Center Stage and BB King's. I think that the Koningsdam concept is near Celebrity one, if I have to consider this cruise, I prefer Celebrity.

I'm Silvia from Italy, sorry for my terrible English but I studied it more than twenty years ago... I returned from my cruise few days ago and I would like share with you some photos of my interior stateroom ( n. 10050). I hope that they are useful to someone. if you have some question I will be happy to answer you!

We ended up going on the official RCL excursion to Phi Phi Islands.

 

Ship arrived at Phuket at about 8am and those with official shore excursions got priority, so we were glad we went with RCL.

 

Those who wished to go to shore on their own needed to queue up at the restaurant at 9:30 to get free tendering tickets. I think the first non shore excursion tender boat departed around 10-10:15am. The tender process itself takes about 20 mins and the boats come very frequently.

 

Therefore if you wish to book your own shore excursions, I would not recommend anything which starts earlier than 11am. I would go even later as there is no guarantee you'll get the tickets for the first boats.

 

No tickets are required on the way back, the tenders ran all the way to 12:30am.

 

On the 2nd day, tenders started at 7am and once again those with shore excursions got priority. Due to the short time the ship was anchored (leaving at 1pm), no tender tickets were issued and it was a first come first served basis for independent travellers.

 

By the way, if you get seasick, do not do any of the speedboat tours. They can be extremely bumpy!

I'll be on Mariner in phi phi island. I think to choose ship tour , as you did, and I would like to know if during tour we'll stay all time on speedboat , going down in sea from boat to swim or there will be stop on the beaches. I don't swim very well and i would like stop a little time on beach.Shortly...will we be the whole day on boat or will there be some breaks on the beaches? Sorry for my terrible english... I hope you understand my question! Thanks!

LSimon is an excellent source of information but the thread you refer to here is from 2011. Others may post here and tell you of their recent experiences.

 

April 2013 on Eclipse the manager on duty in CellarMasters told me I could pay for a wine tasting and receive a special card, "a complimentary one", to match the price of the wine tasting scheduled for a particular time. I didn't have opportunity to participate in the wine tasting that day and was told I could not purchase a special card for less than $50 from the mgr. on duty in CM.

 

I wasn't sure about spending $50 for card to get wines from a machine so didn't charge $50 to my Seapass (cabin card) at that time. When I stopped in at CM from time to time various machines were "out of order" or had a message about something wrong with the gas pressure. And, there was no one on duty.

 

As it turned out I was content to get my drinks from various bars on the ship even if I planned to sit in CellarMasters.

Interesting, perhaps they changed back again for some reason. The first time we cruised on S class almost 2 years ago one had to purchase a card and "load" value on it. But on the Constellation last March when I asked about buying a card we were told to just use our sea pass - we did and it worked. Perhaps they felt a need to change the system since then.

There was no welcoming bubbly in Rome when we boarded. Got a rose, thought it was for a suite check in. Maybe the 123 package has something to do with it? There was a lot of free champagne for events.
