So are you saying the new price reflected the 30% discount? If no old price was shown, how did you know you were given a discount?

Because we booked excursions months ago and I check often for price drops . One excursion was 95.00 pp and when I checked couple weeks ago it dropped to 65.00 . So we cancelled and rebooked it. So the new price definitely reflected 30 percent discount. And few days later received the credit on my credit card.

John Heald does not make Carnival policy and has been known to post inaccurate info before.

    https://help.carnival.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1374/kw/faster to the fun

    Priority Check-in
Upon arrival to the terminal (during your arrival appointment), look for the Priority line to check-in.

Yes, often this is not enforced, and FTTF and priority pax are to check in whenever they arrive, but this is not guaranteed.  Particularly when the ship arrived into port late and/or boarding started late, the port agents enforce check-in appointment times more strictly.

Correct John Heald does not make policy . He went to higher ups and they confirmed. We had no problem in Feb even though our time was 1 and we got there at 1030. Just saying.

Not sure where you got this verbiage, but Carnival's Help page clearly states you must arrive during your arrival appointment.

But as I mentioned this does not seem to be enforced at this time. Take that for what you will.

Actually John Heald posted months ago that FTTF can actually show up when you like even if you have a late arrival time for check in.

  4. We had it and our friends had it also on Horizon last month. We went straight to room to drop off with no problems. Our friends on another deck tried and they would not let them in even though they told him and showed him the FTTF on the paper. And they didn't push the issue either as I would have pushed the issue. That is part of the FTTF.

Just something one needs to be aware of if they select a 3 or 4 person room for 2 people, when 2 person capacity rooms are available in the class.

Exactly, that is why I make sure we book our cabin for the amount of people in it as this has been happening for years. Unfortunately this is not new.

Possibly an unpopular opinion on here, but I/my family tip as we would on land and that's for those are are directly serving us. We do remove the auto gratuities and then tip accordingly. Room stewards get more. Sometimes the bar service folks get more (than the auto 18%). When we dine in the MDR, steakhouse or other specialty restaurants, they get more. If others behind the scenes don't get something, I'd argue that their salary should be more and it's not up to me to supplement that. I tip as I do in the US and that's for those that are directly servicing us. If they (cruise lines) decide to include it in the price, then fine, but until then...I'll tip as I normally do.

No the room stewards do not get more. Since you remove the tips then they are required to share the tips just like the bar service and everyone else. It is all pooled.

You're right. If spending $7000-8000+ on a one week vacation for mediocre food, a pool I would never swim in + an indoor cabin + ports where you can barely find a decent beach or an excursion is what I can expect from further carnival cruises, then it may not be for me.  Last I checked though, that wasn't a Burger King budget.

Just need to do your homework about the ships and cabins and ports and the time you go really makes a difference in cost and such.

Drinks are part of vacation.  I can't think of any other vacation where I tip $1000+ through the course of a week.  That's why I feel like with the addition of all of the pay-for restaurants, the way we tip may need to change.  I didn't do anything different this time around, but I think I would tip individually next time.  The cruise lines have changed the game, not us.  The way they pay their people may need to change as well.  Cruises used to be entirely free plus drinks and we used to all eat in the same place.  That isn't the case now.

Sounds like cruising is not for you.

  9. We did this cruise on Crown Princess last April. And yes the ship for the days going and coming back were extremely rough for our sailing but we knew that would happen from reading what others have said. We were on the Grand almost 10 years ago and unless they did revamp it our group would not go on it again as it was aging back then. I would try to see if they had a newer ship going there with a few more things on it if I was bringing my kids. Just my opinion. But regardless the crew has always been top notch on all Princess ships that we have been on.

After spending thousands of dollars on a cruise to Alaska to see the glaciers and all the wonderful sights, we discovered that the Quantum of the Seas does not get within a mile of any glacier. It dips its toe into the fjord, turns around and runs away. On asking why , we were told that the ship is too large to safely approach the glacier. So if you see an ad that says voyage of the glaciers keep in mind that on the Quantum of the Seas, it's the voyage to see part of a fjord. Very disappointed. Not necessarily at the crew but very disappointed at Royal Caribbean marketing that failed to mention this glaring omission.

To be honest, we would have put the beds back in the "proper configuration" if the attendant had been nice about it. One more question. Should the bed sheets be changed during a 7 day cruise? They were definitely not changed at all. I saw a chocolate stain on mine for most of the week.

No they should not have been changed unless they had gotten something on them.

They gave me $10 off. Not 10%.

I didn't ask for the $10. Someone thought it was a refund for shipping of the medallion.

I doubt they are giving any discounts. This is not something Princess does with things compared to other lines (discounts on dinners, etc..).

Refund for the shipping  of the medallion

    is what that was for.

We're cruising on NCL Bliss in March out of Los Angeles and this will be our first time cruising out of Los Angeles. Any information that experienced cruisers can share will be helpful!  We're flying into LAX the day before our cruise and not sure what hotel to book.  NCL had booked us for a night at the Hilton Checkers in Los Angeles and a cruise critic reader informed us that we would be better off staying near LAX airport or in San Pedro.  Is the DoubleTree hotel in San Pedro near the cruise ship terminal?  The website shows that there is no shuttle service from the hotel to the cruise terminal.  Any other recommendations for San Pedro stay?  How far is the cruise terminal from LAX airport?  Need to know so we know what time to book our return flight home.  Thank you in advance.

There is free shuttle from hotel to cruise port. We just did this in April. They also will shuttle you around a 5 mile area to store or restaurants for free. This is for the Double tree in San Pedro.

Though still two months out, I just registered via the website.  And, yes, there was a check box to indicate any baggage fee exemption followed by a box in which to type in the reason for the exemption.  I clicked the box and then typed in my info regarding my AAdvantage Million Mile Gold status which gives me two free checked bags on Alaska Airlines.  I assume that someone has to personally read those explanations typed in with the checked boxes and then follow up to make sure fees aren't charged.  I'm hoping that all goes smoothly.

Yes we did that also with Delta and they never charged us since we get free bags with our Sky Miles. I will go very smoothly.

There were many areas that I was hoping to be able to see and explore, but they are still doing a lot of work so many areas are closed off. The Observation Bar was open, the Chowder restaurant was open and the Starbucks was open. All the other food and drink areas were not open. There was a gift shop open too. I hope to go back and stay again when more things have been renovated and opened, but I did enjoy my stay this time too.

I was on the recent Discovery Princess cruise that ended May-21 and had a great time.  But the process at the pier before and after – what a mess!

At embarkation, the line to drop off luggage extended way outside.  While it was slowly moving, still spent 30-ish minutes waiting.  At the beginning of the line, where we finally dropped off luggage, they had just one x-ray machine.  That was the bottleneck.  HAL no line and I fully understand it’s a smaller ship and less people.  OK, sure I got there at 11:30 and that is prime time.  I knew it was going to be busy but oh my…Princess needs to get luggage process drop-off better.

Disembarkation was a bigger mess outside the building.  I had purchased the Princess transfer to airport.  My time to leave was 9:10 and was thru customs by 9:25, so all good there.  But then outside, in the same spot where I stood in line to drop-off luggage I joined the line going in the opposite direction for the bus.  The line barely moved and when it did move it was mostly due to people jumping out for taxis.  At 10:45 I was one of jumpers as I had a 1:00 flight and was getting nervous (and cold).  Seems Princess and HAL need more buses and/or stagger them better.

Rant over.  I don’t recall these types of problems in previous years.  I wonder if there is a new transportation contractor running things?

My recommendation:  arrive early afternoon and use the taxi line for transportation to the airport ($60 flat rate).

Cruise was awesome by the way and I recommend everyone should go see Alaska if they have the means.

So does it say flat fee of 60.00 and did you have to share a cab?
