  1. Thanks for the great review. I've got the mini suite w large balcony reserved for Bermuda. I really wanted to be on 8 for easy access to the waterfront.  My only hesitation is the possibility of noise from the theater. Did you hear any noise from below? I don't expect we'll be in the room during the showtimes, but they rehearse at all hours.

  2. Thanks so much for this picture. We will be on the May 2 cruise which is a sold-out, chartered Dave Koz Jazz cruise. There are people with deck 10 cabins who are understandably nervous. Hopefully they can finish the 'upgrades' on 10 and 11 before we board.

I am enjoying your blog. We will be stopping in Kotor and Dubrovnik so I hope you can post those before you arrive in Venice.

  3. We were in one of the GV Suites 1/17- 1/24 and requested Teppanyaki reservations with the pre-concierge. When we checked in, I checked with the concierge; the request had not been passed to him. He was able to book it for us then.

None of the pre-concierge requests made it to the ship. (alcohol selection, special pillow, etc). I don't know why they bother to send the selection letter. It creates unrealistic expectations. It's nice to know what perks are available, but there's no point in asking you to select things in advance if they don't follow through.

  4. This is out first cruise. Going to Bahamas in May. There will be 4 of us and we all want to do something different. 2 happen to be 19 years old or close. What would be the best way to keep in touch. I heard there are plans with Verizon but could not find anything about Bahamas. I have no problem paying 10.00 a day for service with me and my daughter. Any ideas or suggestions.

Verizon does have a daily plan that automatically uses your domestic plan allowance for Talk, Text and Data when you travel to supported countries. However, Bahamas is not included in the $10/day daily plan.

The monthly plan which includes the Bahamas is $40 for limited minutes, text and data (100,100,100MB). If you'll only be needing it for a couple of days, the pay-as-you-go is probably cheaper:

    Voice Text International Data

    $1.79/min .50 send,.05 receive $2.05/MB

  5. Unless this cruise is different from the rest of NCL there are normally no formal nights on NCL. You can be as formal or informal as you like when you dine. That is why NCL has "Freestyle Dining".

There is one evening when the captain is usually available for photos in the Atrium and people get formally dressed for photos with him.

We're just off the Star (1/17-1/24). The first sea day, which was Monday for us, was the Norwegian's Night Out. This is billed as the night to look your best and have your photo taken with the captain. We found that there were people dressed up and not dressed up every night in all of the specialty restaurants. You won't feel out of place no matter how you dress.

  6. The features that are available for iConcierge are listed on the website.

    Features Include:

    Shore Excursions Previews and Bookings

Restaurant Information with Menus and Bookings

    Entertainment Information and Reservations

    Folio Review

General Information, such as Onboard Services, Spa Services, and Shopping

    Daily Activities

    Cruise Rewards Information

Messenger/Phone Features with Other Guests during your cruise (Nominal One-Time Fee During Cruise)

Phone Calling with Family and Friends Back Home (Nominal Per Minute Fee During Cruise)

Has anyone used the phone calling back home? What was the per minute charge? I'm wondering if it's cheaper than Verizon 1.79/min.

  7. I'm attempting to add the UBP for 3&4th pax in our cabin. The first problem is that it doesn't allow you to select the people, so you have to buy for everyone. The next problem is that it only charges for 1 day of the package ($64+18%). I'm tempted to buy it since it's less than the full package for 1 person, but I'm sure someone will catch it.

    My cart:

    Ultimate Beverage Package

    QTY: 1

    PARTICIPANTS:

    Edward **** = $81.42

    Martha **** = $81.42

    David **** = $81.42

    Denise **** = $81.42

    PRICE:

    $ 325 68

  8. I started out in O/V until I was in the M-class FV corner aft balcony. I've been in that cabin 3 times, C1 on M-class 2 times, RCI corner aft 4 times, RCI aft Crown Loft on Allure, Carnival aft balcony, Hal aft corner. My next is 1140 (AQ aft) on Connie. I love being on an aft balcony whether it's a standard or suite.
  9. Awesome.

Initial log in has to be at one of the computers on board.

Subsequent log ins can be on the laptop / Netbook etc.

It's important to note that you are not warned that your package time has run out. The per minute charge is automatically applied.

You are given the option to save the log in/off screen. Do that. When you are done you just click through that screen and you are told how much you have used, not how much you have left. THAT info will be available when you log back in..... in $$ not minutes if memory serves me correctly.

If you have probs logging off go to Guest Services. They can adjust that specific log in from their work stations and credit the time back. They can also provide the specific URL to type in the address bar if it happens again.

On the Allure, you do not need to use the internet cafe to set up your account. First you connect to the Royal WiFi signal, then start an internet browser of your choice. The Royal WiFi packages are displayed and you select the one you want. You set up your logon with username, password and folio id. I assume that if you have a multi-user package, you'll set up username/passwords for each user. If you have an unlimited package, it shows you how much time you have left (depressing to watch your cruise hours slip away....). I don't know what the 'by the minute' packages display. Someone who is currently on either the Allure or Oasis implied that you have to use the minute package at one time.

  10. WiFi access available all over the ship except for the Amber Theater. I didn't check in Studio B, though I wouldn't be surprised if they don't want people texting, googling, etc during production shows.

New unlimited access package for 1 week = $119 for 1 concurrent device. (you can apply C&A coupons)

Additional packages for up to 8 devices, but I don't remember the pricing. The 8 device package I think was in the $500 range.

I was using both an Android tablet (Samsung Galaxy 10.1) and an Android phone with good connection speeds.

  11. The particular suite is 1732. Does anyone know if you can smoke on the balcony?

Yes you can. I asked this question last week as we will be in 1724 on Sunday.:D Several responses that said that smoking is allowed. One person said the room steward brought an ashtray for them and there were several other L2s with smokers.

Well doh! I didn't notice this question was asked in August 2012. Sheesh!

  12. Then after I held a grasp of myself I saw guest services straight ahead of me, so I made a dash for it to try to claim my wine back. Before I could get to the counter I was approached by a lady and asked what my concern was, I told her my wine had been confiscated and she told me that its RCCL policy of no liquor being allowed on board. I told her that they changed the policy two days ago and she told I was most likely confused. Then I pulled the UK statement she read it very fast and asked me for my name. Then she said to me "Mr……… your wine will be in your stateroom after sail away" she asked for my info, I thanked her and we left.

Did you get your wine returned on Day 1?

  13. A quick Forum Search for Sweet 16 gives you plenty of answers to this, plus pictures.
