  1. We booked a flight for tomorrow morning to the Grand Bahamas. Norwegian notified the ship and updated our reservation to state we'll be joining tomorrow. It's a 4 day (Monday to Friday) cruise.

Our flight was supposed to leave Salt lake City Utah at 5:20 AM and arrive in Houston a little after 9 AM. After some delays our flight was cancelled and we couldn't get on a flight until after 10 AM. We instead flew through Dallas.

Hope you have travel insurance. That flight cancellation due to weather should reimburse you. Good luck.

  2. Thank you for taking the time to write this review....I do have a question...I also want to take the ferry to St. John but my hubby is a bit worried about time etc, did you take the ferry right from Charlotte Amalie or did you taxi to Red Hook and once on St. John which beach did you go to.....and then which ferry time back and did you have any time issues.......this is something I really want to do....I want to go to Cinnamon bay.....and any advice you can give me would be wonderful.....thankyou in advance.

Aussie, just remember that the ferry leaves from each dock on the hour. Buy your return ticket at Red Hook. CBay is about a 20 min taxi ride from/to dock. Depending on number of ships in St Thomas, leave yourself plenty of time to get from Red Hook back to cruise port, there could be traffic. What are your port times?

  3. Nice review and thanks for posting. I have a question. What transportation did you use to get to port in Miami and back to FLL. I'll be in the same situation when I go on Escape.

We have used both SAS (ridesas.com) and MJS (gomjstrans.com) from FLL to POM. Both are $15/person/each way. Using MJS again in July.

  4. Depends on how much time you have in port. 10 hours would be ideal. 8 hours would only give you 2 hours at the beach.

To ensure the most time in St. John and beat the crowds try to get off the ship as soon as it's docked in St. Thomas. Grab a cab to Red Hook ($10pp), catch the ferry (they leave on the hour) to St. John - Cruz Bay ($14pp round trip), then hop in a taxi to Cinnamon Bay (free). It's BEAUTIFUL there!!! I'd recommend leaving Cinnamon Bay about 4 hours before your ship leaves to ensure you have ample time to get back to the port.

  5. We got married on St Thomas last April. We had wanted to get married at Cinnamon Bay on St John, but the wedding planner suggested the travel time (cab, ferry, cab) would be hectic. So, we decided to get married at Limetree Beach on St Thomas. We used Cheryl with viweddings.com, and she was excellent. She did all of the paper work and handled all of the transportation. You have to be careful about scheduling enough time for the courthouse stop (could be people ahead of you) and travel time.

Good luck and congratulations! We are heading back to Cinnamon Bay in July.

  6. I've read a lot of reviews about transport companies in the Fort Lauderdale area taking people to the Port of Miami.

I've narrowed it down to three, SAS, Jiffy Jeff, and MJS Transportation. Has anyone used one of these companies recently? If so, what was your experience and would you use them again?

Jiffy Jeff and MJS Transportation use the same vans. We have used MJS and they picked up JJ people. We are booked with MJS for July. They are very reliable and have great communications.

  7. I am hoping someone can give me some insight on this. Our cruise is booked for this November. My spouse and I are in one cabin, and my mother and son (age 11) are in another cabin. My grandfather is very ill and last night my mother informed me that if he does not pass away before we leave for the cruise, she will not be going. Hypothetically, what is the best way to approach this scenario? Should my mother just be a 'no show'? Would Carnival allow my son to stay in the room alone?

    Buy your mom travel insurance.

Benefits will be paid, up to the Maximum Benefit Amount shown in the Confirmation of Benefits, to reimburse You for the amount of the Published Penalties and unused non-refundable Prepaid Payments You paid for Travel Arrangements when You are prevented from taking Your Trip due to:

    1. Your, Your Family Member’s, Your Traveling Companion’s, Your Traveling Companion’s Family Member, Your Business Partner’s or Your Business Partners Family Member’s death, which occurs before departure on Your Trip;

Move your mom into your room. You buy insurance. If your mom has to cancel, insurance will cover any single supplement charge you may have to pay. See insuremytrip dot com for policies. Policies are not that expensive.

  8. YOU can still buy insurance, there is no deadline. Some travel insurance policies cover the case where a traveling partner cannot go and cover the single supplement. Insurance should not be that expensive, check insuremytrip dot com. I just got a $900 policy for 2 people for $56.

  9. What is your specific question? Location, cabin type, size? Look at the deck plans. Deck 6 forward cabins would be better than deck 7 forward, because on deck 7 you are under the main lounge.

  10. We were on a cruise and we just got married at the end of April in St. Thomas while in port. It was super easy and very affordable. Our wedding coordinator took care of all of the paperwork and it is still in the US. We used viweddings.com. and Cheryl was great.

  11. Having the right connections will most probably do you little good.

They disable the ability on the TV's to change the "source". So, you can plug in all day (I have tried), but without being able to change the source, good luck. Ships, like most hotels lock down their tv controls for good reason.

Bring a laptop or tablet instead.

Thanks! Never thought about the source selection.

  12. We have a group of 10-12 of us that would like to go to Trunk Bay. We would like to try it on our own to have more time at the beach. What would the cost be to get there and back and is there any fees to get into beach?

You are going to need at least 2 taxis to Red Hook. Ferry is $7/person/each way. Taxi to Trunk Bay (probably about $6/each). The fee for Trunk Bay is $4/person. Cinnamon Bay is free, taxi to is $7/each. Depending on ships in port, TB could be crowded. Why not consider Cinnamon?

  13. I really appreciate you all sharing your individual experiences. I think in order to maximize our time at the beach we will try it on our own. Thanks again!

That's the right idea. If you can get off the ship at 8:00, catch a taxi and you should make the 9:00 ferry ($7/person each way). A 20 minute ride and you are at Cruz Bay. We went to Cinnamon Bay (free), the next beach from Trunk ($4), by taxi for $7/person each way. Cinnamon was incredible and we had the entire beach to ourselves for about 1.5 hours! You can be on either beach by 10:00am. I would plan to catch the 3:00 ferry back to Red Hook. Surely, do not miss the 4:00 ferry. So your beach time could be 10:00-2:30.

  14. Be sure to fill out the preboarding forms. Also, check your receipt, your OBC may be $50 total per cabin. Also, gratuities will be added to your account at $12/person/day. The $50 can offset that charge. Have fun!

  15. Holiday Inn Metarie: free airport shuttle. Taxi to the port will cost about $33 for 2 people (not sure they would charge for the child). Not near the French Qtr.

Holiday Inn Superdome: No airport shuttle. Taxi to the hotel will cost about $33 for 2 people (not sure they would charge for the child). Taxi to the port the next morning will cost $7/person (again, not sure about child). Near French Qtr., within walking distance (Canal St street car or cab). If you want to experience the French Qtr, stay here.
