I think that you made a wonderful choice in the Island. We have been to Alaska 3 times on - Island/Coral/Star. We just got off the Crown a couple of weeks ago on a California Coastal. We felt that the Crown was extremely crowded and congested on sea days for our tastes.
We are booked for 2015 on the Coral. We MUCH prefer the Island and the Coral for any cruise because like Pam mentioned, the ship is laid out very well for the number of people onboard. The extra deck of passenger cabins on the Crown was very obvious and although we don't use the elevators, they were usually congested and many people waiting for them.
I think/hope that you have a wonderful time on the Island. Be sure to check out the "secret" viewing decks both forward and aft! :)

No, they don't do it anymore to LAX. See my prior post.
Thanks, it looks like we were posting near the same time and I missed your first post. Drats!

We are on the Crown in San Francisco right now. Last night the Captain made an announcement that we should pass under the Golden Gate Bridge at around 5:15 am this morning. And we did just that! Almost on the minute.

We are on the Crown right now in San Francisco. We disembark in San Pedro/L.A. and are flying United. Can anyone tell me if they offer E-Z check out of San Pedro for United flights? Thanks in advance.

These are completely safe essential oils that don't hurt the marine toilets or the environment!
We like the Poo Pourri line. :) It's more expensive than the Dollar Tree version, but looks nice in the bathroom.
It comes from Amazon and many other retailers. Several sizes.
Yes, it does look nicer!

Please don't put chemicals in the toilets that may cause mechanical problems - marine plumbing is VERY different that what you have at home. If the stink bothers you, just use a room deodorizer.
I believe that this is essential oils that are plant based.

I found this last week at our local Dollar Tree. It's the drops that you put in the toilet to prevent odor after you use the loo. One or two drops before your business and one drop after you business. We've tried it in our house and it really does work! $1.00 (.67 oz) is much cheaper than $9.95 for a 2oz bottle of the real deal!

Looking for the wonderful muesli recipe on the breakfast buffet. Can anybody help? Thank you in advance :)
Sorry that I can't help with the recipe either, but boy do I love it! I look forward to it every morning onbaord. I sprinkle it over oatmeal. I know ... boring! But, I can't eat big every morning as my body is not used to all of that food!

Lounge chairs on the aft deck of the Island princess on Caribe are really nice place to sit.:) Sometimes in the morning the cushions can be very wet and you don't realize this until you get up. So you are walking to your cabin with a wet behind or in my case a very wet skirt that I had to change out of. :( So check to see if the chair cushions are wet before sitting down.
Ha! So I'm not the only one! I did the same thing the last time that we were on the Coral in Panama in November. Wet behind for sure!

Just looked on the deck plan and it looks the same as all the ones around it.
Just got off the phone and Princess says the same thing; that it is the same category as those around it. The CSR said that they are working on their website and there have been glitches reported. We have looked at several balcony cabins on different levels and have seen several of said "glitches", lol.
So, we think that we are booking a regular balcony cabin on Caribe.
Thanks for your help.

I've been searching and searching and cannot find the help that I need. We are looking to book a balcony cabin on the Crown next month. When we look at the cabins available, we see several available forward on Aloha level that all seem to be the same category. One that sticks out is A218 which is a different color than those rooms surrounding it and it goes for $20 more than those around it as well. It is a category BD instead of a BE.
Can anyone please tell me if A218 is larger, a bigger balcony, has better decor or smells better  to give it a slightly higher category?
Would anyone happen to have pictures?!?!?
Thank you so much in advance.

Wonderful photos! Thank you so much. It made me nostalgic, as we too have been in this suite and love it. Take good care of it, as we are booked in it again for Alaska in 2015.
Thank you. I always take too may pics of our cabins, lol.
Just curious, are you booked for May 13th 2015 by any chance? We tried to get it the morning the new rates came out and it was booked. We took D703 next door.

I cuddle-dud.
The weather in Alaska is iffy (at best). It can change at the drop of a hat (or rain, really). So layers is the way to go. As to silk, thermal or cotton (is thermal something different?), whatever you like/are comfortable with is best. If you don't like it, you won't wear it.
Ditto. Including the fact that I cuddle-dud-ed. :o

What to Do With Cold & Rainy Weather
in Alaska
Posted
I always take a ball cap and a gortex top layer for my jacket. I pull the hood up over the ball cap and it has ultimately protected my face from rain/sprinkles when necessary. Only had to use it two days on one cruise and none on the other two cruises.
The weather there is kinda like Michigan...it can change in a matter of minutes, so we don't let it bother us. :)
