  1. The app has never worked on my Android, so I'm hoping for an update before January.

I wouldn't count on it. It's gone through multiple updates and releases over the last year or so and it has always been a dice roll whether it will work. On my last cruise on the Epic (April '14), about half of the Cruise critic roll call had problems with it and never got it to work. I believe NCL offered refunds to them, but I don't believe it's ever really worked for Android users. In the months since, I don't think I've heard about any improvement.

In general, NCLs IT and Development services are pretty lacking. Between their website and their app, it's not anything to be proud of.

  2. Curious if other people are having the same issues. I am able to get in using IE, which I hate, but can't get passed the login screen on chrome.

In a positive note, my edocs are ready at 69 days :) Edocs are high on my list of things that make my upcoming cruise feel more "real"!

Yeah, for some reason, MyNCL has issues with Chrome....which is surprising given that Chrome is FAR easier to work with from a development standpoint.

Unfortunately, you'll have to use IE (or maybe Firefox) for MyNCL for now.

  3. When I think of Miami and music I think of Miami Sound Machine, so why not have Gloria Estafan ....she's also involved in the community and pretty down to earth too.

She's one of like...6 Godmothers to the Oasis of the Seas.

As far as I can tell, Pitbull is the first godfather for a major cruise ship.

  4. I'm sorry to ask, but what does this mean?

Not much. You might see some pictures of him onboard and perhaps they'll push his Vodka in some of the bars, but otherwise I don't think the godparent of a ship has ever had an impact on any cruise I've been on. I was unaware that Reba McCintire was the godmother for the Epic until after my second cruise on her (the ship, not Reba).

While I don't care for Pitbull's music, he's always come off as a generally good guy. He does a lot of stuff for the community and even followed through when 4chan managed to have him sent to a Walmart in Alaska for some contest. Generally speaking, it's just sort of a way to add some hype to a ship launch. It doesn't really matter in the long run.

  5. Just looking at a Canaries cruise on the Epic. From the deck plans the shower and the toilet seem to have glass fronts straight into the bedroom. Is this right? How does this provide privacy? I assume the toilet glass is frosted, but that isn't very private given the proximity of the bed. Am I just being too fuddy-duddy?

Lol welcome to the Epic Bathroom drama.

Long story short is it's a very divided issue. Some people don't mind, some do. The glass IS frosted and it does do a good job of masking activities, but it's nevertheless exposed to the rest of the room if you have any guests. There is a privacy curtain you can close that will block it off, though.

It was an attempt to open up more usable space compared to rooms with separate bathroom modules, and while it technically did, it was kind of a polarizing issue and not really a popular one.

Whether it's a dealbreaker for you and yours is up to you. My wife and I didn't have too much of a problem with it, but hey, different folks, different strokes.

  6. Hi all,

I'm considering a Spa Balcony stateroom on deck 15, but I'm concerned about overhead noise (light and late sleeper) because the deck above has the fitness center, pool, sun deck and Garden Cafe. I fear alot of chair moving noise and footsteps in the mornings.

Any perspective from others who have sailed the same class ship?

    Thanks!

    Lynne

I'm not sure that the BA-class ships are arranged exactly the same, but based on the deck plans thus far, you'll only be under the fitness center area. The Lido deck and garden cafe are further aft. That said, it's hard to say yet as no one has slept a night aboard it. I'm going to venture a guess and say no, as I've had rooms below various high-traffic locations before without much issue. I'm a heavy sleeper (and a quick one at that), though, so that of course could be a factor.

  7. I'm kind of hoping for an onboard special. The last time we were on the Epic they offered unlimited spa access for $199 per couple on the first day of the cruise.

That changed sometime between 2012 and 2014, I believe. In 2012, we got the couples spa pass for $199, but then it was almost $300 for the two of us on the second cruise 2 years later. Of course, it could have changed multiple times in that time frame, so who knows?

  8. There are also spa balconies & spa mini suites on the Breakaway & Escape.

The Breakaway spa was never crowded even the first cols morning sailing out of New York. The cabins are the same size but come with special spa toiletries & robes and spa access for the week. We had enough of a price drop that the spa cost was minimal on the Breakaway.

Aye, we have a Spa balcony for our cruise in Dec and the cost difference between that and a normal balcony was less than the price of a spa pass. Ipso Facto....you can't not take that deal :P

  9. The salad bar at Moderno is pretty awesome, but there is definitely quite a bit of seasoning and oil in most of the offerings. I can't think of anything off the top of my head at Cagney's that will fit in her diet, however. Teppanyaki is more or less an unavoidable one. They use plenty of butter and oil when cooking and it's all on the same flattop.

La Cucina is good, but again, there's a high chance of there being a good amount of seasoning and oil involved (it IS Italian after all). Le bistro? Again, the same.

Perhaps the cruise will just be a good time to take a vacation from the diet, too? :P

  10. LOL...and my phoneling referred me to the Terms and Conditions!

My past 2 or 3 CCs have been kind of flaky, but my current one (Joy) has been pretty helpful and so far, accurate. Based on what I'm seeing, for those of us used to the old UDP who got it before it became the SDP, we're safe and the experience won't really be any different.

  11. You are wrong here

Ncl publicized via tv video 5 pm

Ncl dropped the ball and it doesn't matter if 2 or 200 pax missed the ship

Again..... Ncl showed a video that said 5

Anyone could have thought that was accurate with all the changes going on at ncl at the drop of a hat and with no warning

If there hadn't been a video that's another story

But incorrect video plus a confirmation of no signage at the debark equals ncl dropped the ball....yet again

Sent from my iPad using Forums

I don't think anyone is disputing that the video said 5. That much is basically agreed on. NCL should have the updated video playing.

HOWEVER, it's virtually impossible to get off the ship without encountering multiple instances where the correct time is posted....not including all the times it's announced over the PA. At the very worst, they were given conflicting information.

So our two passengers here were working with 2 different possible departure times: one at 3pm and another at 5pm. In this situation, what would a rational person do? Would they assume it's the earlier time, facing only the possibility that they get back on board a bit early......or would they assume it's the later one, facing the possibility of being left behind in a foreign country? Over 3000 other passengers had the same video and same information presented to them.....and somehow chose correctly to show up before 3 rather than 5. It's the reason why they make all those announcements and post it multiple times as you are exiting the ship.

If we're working with the assumption that the two passengers actually did think that 5 was the one and only departure time, then perhaps we need to instead address whether they require a mature adult chaperone for future voyages. I mean, it's one thing to leave the room thinking 5, but that means they didn't ever read the Daily, their itenirary, any information posted enroute to the gangway, the signs outside the gangway, or listen to a single announcement the night before or that morning. If, in the face of so much counter-information, they still went with the idea that 5pm was the departure time, then they seriously need to reconsider the risk-factor of traveling without someone more observant in their party. If these were middle school or high school kids, I could maybe see it. But these were adults.

No one is arguing that NCL didn't mess up by showing the wrong departure time in a video. We're just stating that a rational person wouldn't be lead to make the same mistake the two passengers in question did and that NCL's mess up isn't a valid excuse.
