We will continue to cruise regardless. Y'all are welcome to stay home if you don't want  to cruise. Your choice is entirely yours and yours alone.

The arrogance of this ^ though.
I really hope ports refuse to accept RC ships and other lines’ ships if they don’t require full vaccination. These islands don’t need us showing up, spreading a potentially deadly virus.

I am vaccinated and more than comfortable going on a ship that has unvaccinated people on it.  I think more than enough people are comfortable and ready to cruise again.  If you are not comfortable then you should not be going and choose another line that works for you.

That’s all good and well but how about the people who live on these islands the ships visit? Do you think they’ll appreciate potentially thousands of unvaccinated foreigners possibly spreading infection? Most of these places don’t have the resources to deal with such outbreaks. RC’s decision is crazy. Outrageous really.

Gee - let's exaggerate the facts just a tad.

There'a a comprehensive thread about NCLH's SEC disclosures on the Oceania Forum, including accurate direct primary sources.

Talk of reorganization (either with or without a bankruptcy filing) has little to do with "going out of business." Why else would a private equity company have just invested $400 million in NCLH?

PLEASE do some research before starting yet-another thread with a title that is a "stretch" at best.

Here's some of the news items:

Of course you're an Oceania cruiser. Maybe you could do some research into how to speak to people?

    Get over yourself.

Maybe the OP had heard the "bankruptcy" on the news?

Maybe they don't understand the deeper details/the difference in filings?

Why can't some people on these boards just explain without the Thurston Howell arrogance and demeaning tone towards others?

all cruise lines are doing the same if you canceled you get the credit if they cancel you get an option.

Even if they ultimately canceled the cruise anyway? Seems like a ***** technicality during a global pandemic, especially if the reason they are canceling has to do with said pandemic which, ultimately, is why the whole thing was canceled on both ends. It's nonsense. I'm with the OP.

  5. I think they've lost their minds on most pricing. Just checked a cruise in June of next year, standard week long, 2 adults, 2 kids in a regular oceanview balcony, $8200 without drinks or anything. LOL!!!  Get bent, Royal, and all cruise lines really. You raise everything when things are going well out of "supply and demand," but nothing when demand drops off huh? Travel agents have said bookings are down 25% for next year already, but no real deals? Way to win back the base.

Princess does ‘track’ passengers via their RFID Medallions. On a recent Princess Cruise, we left our medallions in the cabin as we had requested regular ‘sea pass’ cards. In one dining room, the maître d’ told us that “we weren’t there” as our medallions ‘said’ we were in our cabin. Invasion of privacy? Oh boy! 1984 in 2020. Big Brother and all that...you are ‘bring watched’...

OH?  LOL I can not even begin to tell you how much fun I would have had with the maitre d.

Just back from our first Edge cruise and one of my observations is the now prolific use of phones throughout the ship.  I sat at the Martini Bar one afternoon and observed 4 people in a row at the bar with their noses buried in their phone, oblivious of me taking pictures of them. I observed a person on the pool deck on a sea day having a FaceTime conversation with his grandkid. Numerous times I heard the sounds of incoming text messages and emails.  All of this will only get worse as internet access on ships gets faster and cheaper, especially when it is offered as a “free” perk, and as cruise lines encourage the use of their app while onboard to get the latest schedule of activities and “chat” with fellow cruisers. As a CC Elite member, I get 90 free internet minutes. I used a total of 7 minutes on my seven day cruise, and that was only to check in for my early flight.

Part of the allure of cruising used to be a total disconnect from the world and having new conversations with different people. The allure is quickly fading...

People on these boards can be so rude.

While we have no control over what others do, I completely understand. I used to love pulling up to a bar and having real conversations with other cruisers. It was fun and I formed some real friendships.

Human interaction is decreasing on the daily but it's the way of the world. Part of all of this is a concerted effort on the part of powers that be to normalize this lack of face to face conversation and said human interaction for the coming robot invasion. LOL  Sounds crazy but so true. Sooner rather than later you'll be like going to Dr C3PO.

  8. They can do whatever they want. I'm taking kids on a RC cruise in August because they "really, really want to goooo" and am looking at a 14 day Thailand/Vietnam cruise on Celebrity in November simply because it's a steal at $2000 each for a balcony mid ship with all 4 perks, but other than that, I'm the type who is put off by things like this. There is no way in Hell they can justify $100 per person on a reservation in costs on their end. It's like when I wanted to change the name on my cable bill from my sister to me and we had the same address and last name. $20. For???   "IT's a change of responsibility code."   But all you're doing is changing one name, right?  "Yes, but it's a change of responsibility."  But wait. You're literally just changing the first name? Nothing else?  "Yes but again, it is a change of responsibility."    Uh huh.

Corporate shenanigan, jedi level money grab if you ask me.

But believe me. I am FULLY aware of my own insignificance  so yes, I will proactively say, it's up to me if I want to keep cruising or not.

They do it because they are a business trying to sell, in this case, 14 day cruises. Having people book these without commitment is a recipe for disaster on their end. If people are scared to book it because they don't know if they can go, what would you do if you were Royal?

Reduce the time frame in which you can cancel without penalty as I imagine most cancellations are for reservations made far in advance on a whim. Call it 6 months instead of the 3 it used to be. I think that would be more fair. At the very least, refund the remainder after the $100 as original payment versus a credit towards a future cruise.  No?

Only $100/person is non-refundable, the remainder is issued as a future cruise credit (FCC) to be used on a cruised booked within 1 year of cancellation.

Nonrefundable deposits where they keep $100 per person when you know they are going to resell the cabin, is corporate theft imo, pure and simple. How do they justify keeping $100 per, especially when it's say, a 4 person res? So they just get $400 for no real reason?

  11. JHC. I took a break from Celebrity for a few years but was just online trying to book a 14 day Asian cruise. I am so confused, I am about to say screw it. It used to be very simple. Pick a cruise. Pick a date. Pick your perks. Pay the (refundable) deposit. Be on my merry way.

Now we have refundable v non-refundable. Sail or Sail Plus with Sail Plus not adding perks? Does Sail Plus mean perks? Do they give perks on 14 day cruises? Didn't appear to when booking a balcony. Now the added $14 per day. Some alcohol upgraded, some downgraded. Drink tickets? Premium experiences with tours? WTH is going on?

Can someone just tell me if a 14 day cruise to Asia, all categories showing Sail or Sail Plus, should include perks like the drink package? My goal is to book this cruise with a refundable deposit and an included classic drink package.

The solo rooms have real beds... so it's not just suites.

Great!!!  Maybe I'll try a solo then. I was going to do NCL because of their solo cabins but they are out of their minds with their drink packages. And I know VV doesn't offer them but for what NCL charges, it would be a savings for me to order and pay per drink. Going to check out these solos now.

This is may be a old topic already discussed on here but I don’t visit the boards that often. I just read the cruisecritic article about the new cruise line (Virgin Voyages) and how the operations are similar to the freestyle concept with no dress codes, open dining times, specialty restaurants that are free, late port times, no buffet, etc. I also read an article where a former NCL CEO sued the Virgin Company for using his ideas about the design and operations of the ships for the new company.

I am wondering if Virgin Voyages is a evolution of NCLs freestyle program currently and if NCL will change some of their operations if Virgin Voyages is successful. I for one would be very happy if NCLs specialty restaurants all of a sudden became free. Lol!

    Thoughts?

And their freestyle will likely truly be freestyle. With the size of NCL's ships, there is literally nothing freestyle about it. Everything has to be booked/reserved or you get shut out of it.

No one is suggesting there are not other choices in cruising. All the mass marketed lines offer some sort of a drink package. I am not going to debate who has the cheapest drink package as I happen to know they all differ so much there is no way to say who has the best. It depends on personal taste and opinion. As for taking away and then adding back, technically you are correct but my response is to the poster that may not have known NCL listened and responded. Most who do not keep up regularly with CC may not be aware this is the case. I am thinking more about those who are reading the menus posted a month ago

Very simple. Celebrity. Premium package is $69 a day, has been for quite some time--meaning not increased every time the wind blows from the East.

I don't know? Is it me or are the sailing gods sticking it to us again? These beverage packages change it seems, every couple of months, so much so that I guarantee the bartenders on the NCL ships don't even know the prices. I am particularly upset (could use a more fitting word) that those loyal to the brand who book well in advance get screwed (seems like bait and switch). Should there not some sort of rebate or credit for those people? At any rate, I believe the cruise industry is beginning to price themselves out of my wallet, which is unfortunate as it is my favorite vacation experience. I have one more set of deposits to go after my next cruise and once that is used up I believe it is time to sail on my friends. Just saying.

It's mainly NCL with this nonsense. I loved NCL's product but this is it for me. It's an outrageous price and the requirement for everyone on the reservation, no longer just the cabin, having to have the package is another bs money grab.

The SeaBeds are manufactured and designed by Walter Knoll in Germany.  I'm guessing they will be pretty high quality, and probably very firm which I like but I know many others don't.  Maybe like sitting on a rock!  LOL.

To be fair convertible beds to sofas on cruise ships are nothing new or innovative.  Back when cabins were very small, this was actually pretty common.  All beds on Royal Caribbean's early ships converted to sofas by day.  They were usually in an L-Shape.  This was a clever solution to very small cabins.  As cabins became larger, a permanent sofa became pretty standard in most cabins on most cruise ships.  The need for a convertible sofa bed was no longer required.  Virgin Voyages for whatever reason decided to bring the concept back.

I think another reason most cruise lines abandoned the idea is the amount of extra work involved for the cabin stewards.  It will take a lot of extra time to make and unmake all those sofas-to-beds each and every day.  That means more staffing required which means more salaries to pay and more $$ for the cruise line.

Could be a labor deal for why other lines dumped the style but it could also be that they were horrible dorm like slabs. Time will tell. You all let me know.

We've been on lots of cruises, regular cabins and suites, and the beds never consist of a mattress and box spring, if that is what you consider a "real mattress". There is always only one layer, to allow for storage under the bed. I suggest you wait for reviews before you condemn the design. I think it is creative - just hope there is storage space in the support structure.

If they need a couch to double as a bed, I wouldn’t hold my breath for, or expect any real space. And I acknowledged there aren’t any reviews yet. However, that is something that is going to change from week to week based on useage which is my real concern. With no other seating area, they are going to get used a lot.

I don’t know. They haven’t sailed yet but in case they’re reading, I’m just saying, I can not be alone with these thoughts and it will positively keep me from booking. Sticking with X for now.
