  1. The terminal is very nice. Boarding went quickly (we are Diamond Plus, so there was no line to speak of for us). Parking? Well, we got to the terminal at about 11 a.m. and we had to park on the top floor! $120, pay up front. Others on CC park at off-site parking places, and that may be a good option. We didn't want to do that, but we ARE on the top floor!

So far, so good as far as the cruise goes - making ports on time ;)

We were on the FOS 3 weeks ago and we also arrived at terminal 1 at 10:45am and also had to park on the roof. I don't think this garage was built large enough! So sad and it's just a month old!

  2. congrats to your mom!

I think the wheelchairs and such are very expensive to rent. I think like $200 a week or something. that may be an elec scooter though.its been a long time since I checked on it.

they have wheelchairs but you cant keep it for the duration of the cruise.

Rented a regular wheelchair for the week on the FOS and it was only 75.00. It was in the room when we arrived and we left it in the room when we left. That was just 4 weeks ago.

  3. Royal does not really enforce too much of its dress code or suggestion. You will see the jean, sneaker and t shirt crowd in the MDR. Even shorts on occasion.

I was on FOS last week and saw many, many guys in shorts all week long. Even saw one guy in shorts on formal night. And my dinner was still great!

  4. Can anyone who is off a recent Eastern remember if the first formal night is day 2, Coco Cay or day 3, fist sea day?

Just got off yesterday (2/15) and first formal night was day 2, after a day in Coco Cay. I saw very little refurbishing done. In fact I thought some sections were tired and worn. We were on deck 10 and the balcony windows were stained (lime build up) and needed replaced.

  5. Yeah ok, you are right, the contracts might be the key issue that those ships might not be redeployed.

But in another thread I saw that Oasis might be too large for Port Canaveral for example, since there might be too less turnaround space.

And consider: Oasis Class has Central Park with several plants, which May be weather-sensitive. That's IMO the next reason why ranges of itineraries for those ships are limited. ☺️

Port Canaveral and Royal Caribbean spent millions building a new terminal and pier. I doubt it was just for the freedom class size ships. Besides, the length of the Freedom of the Seas is 1,112 ft and the Oasis is 1,184 feet. Not a great difference. I just got off the FOS yesterday and watched the turn around and there was ample space to make the maneuver. PC will get an Oasis class ship sometime in the future, that's my guess and I'm sticking with it! lol

  6. Good info -- if RCI altered the itinerary to eliminate Coco Cay, they would be able to make the more distant ports. Hope I'm not offending folks who like Coco Cay or stockholders like myself who like Coco Cay's revenue enhancement (actually they could make lots of money from an extra sea day with the casino and all bars opened).

The casino is open all day already when at Coco Cay. With more people and time maybe RCL will make enough money to fix the ship correctly this time. Carnival can't be any worse than this outfit.

  7. I never said the Chief Engineer on the Freedom speculated anything, I was referring to the post above and all the posts that followed. So far we have had people speculate that the ship will miss ports, have less time in ports, have cruises cancelled, among other things.

Hard to keep the weed out the actual facts from speculation when we can't even get people on this thread to agree whether it is doing an eastern or western itinerary this week.

Well, we are on the Feb 8 - 15 cruise and its doing EASTERN!!

  8. I saw, at least according to marinetrafficdotcom that she hit that speed leaving Freeport coming back to Canaveral. i was watching her leave Canaveral Sunday and never saw her get about 16. Unfornately the updates stopped. I will check on that again. I don't remember if she is on Eastern or Western this week.

She has to be doing the Western this week as I'm on her next week and we are heading EAST!

  9. From the website.

A: Your friends and family can contact the ship by calling (888) 724-7447. Or from outside the U.S. they can call (321) 953-9003. The cost is $7.95 USD a minute and can be charged to their MasterCard® or Visa®. From outside the U.S. additional long distance charges will also apply.

You can make ship-to-shore calls from your stateroom, 24 hours a day. The cost is $7.95 USD per minute and will be automatically charged to your SeaPass account.

You can also use our onboard Internet Cafés, stateroom Internet connection, or Hot Spots to send an e-mail to your friends or family for a minimal fee.

Thanks a lot for the info. Appreciate the help!

  10. I was on this cruise, the child was not swimming but wandered off when the mother turned around just for a few minutes. A lifeguard would not have made a bit of difference. Why is it that everything becomes RCI's fault and responsibility?

Besides, Royal did take precautions the rest of the week. The H2O zone closed and nets were placed on it at 6:00 pm.

I'd say RCL did too little, too late. And just because you were there, how do you know a lifeguard would not have made a difference? No one can.

  11. I've talked to people who were sent to the nauty room because their rum runners were detected.

Smuggling is always going to be a risk. There is no guarantee your booze will make it in your luggage.

We've always packed 2 rumruners in each suitcase. One on each side of the suitcase. Lock your luggage. And if caught and called down to open your luggage, you show and give security only one rumruner. We've been caught once but this trick worked.

  12. There are reports of men occasionally being turned away for shorts, but that's certainly not a uniform thing at all.

Got off the FOS 2 weeks ago and wore shorts every night for MTD, including the formal nights, with not a word said. In fact, I noticed several men dressed like me. Wear what you want.

  13. Checked luggage is randomly checked. Carry-on luggage... ALL are screened, ala x-ray. So perhaps your best luck is to check a bag? Since it is random, there is no way they can catch everyone... feeling lucky?

Sealed bottles, if caught, can be returned at the conclusion of the cruise. Unsealed, or RRs are confiscated. Presume they will return the RR to you if you or they dispose of the booze, but not sure.

If they notice something in your checked luggage, you get a note in your room to report to security to claim your luggage... they will open and inspect in your presence only.

You are not "wanded" but walk through a metal

detector. Any back-packs, jackets, etc., go thru the aforementioned x-ray machine. I really don't know how they catch a half-pint or pint bottle when you walk aboard the ship, particularly if you buy a plastic 'bottle' for this purpose, but I have not tried.

We just pack two RR in each piece of luggage in two different areas of each suitcase. That way when called down to security and they open your case, you can just pick out one of the RR and leave the other hidden. Worked for us once and so we do it now all the time.
