  1. I just laugh at this thought! My TEENAGERS don't even like loud music!! We have been on many cruises on RCCL, Carnival, Celebrity, Princess and NCL. Our first Celebrity was last year. Believe it or not my kids told me that it is their favorite cruise line and we are going again in April. It is their cruise line of choice and I can assure it wasn't loud music that wanted them going back for more. If Celebrity can appeal to teenagers with what they are currently doing why would they want to change??

Ditto on this. I am a Gen X and I have two young adult children. None of us like loud music. To comment on the OP's post, they don't care much for cars either, with or without loud music. :)

  2. Is there some secret to cruising regularly that I am not aware of? I just booked my second cruise in 10 years and it is costing me a fortune for a Sky suite, specialty dining and beverage package, let alone the flight and hotel stays. Is everyone out there a billionaire or am I just paying rack rates stupidly? I researched a bunch of online cruise sites, but Celebrity offered just the same price for the cabin I wanted. So what gives, get up off your secrets to great cruising, I want to join you....

This seems like an odd complaint. I afford cruising by adjusting my expectations to match my budget. I am going in an AQ cabin, but I wouldn't dream of choosing a suite. I got the 123 package, but normally I limit myself to one adult beverage per day. I treat myself to one specialty restaurant over the course of the cruise. My airfare and pre-cruise hotel were close to free using points from credit card churning.

I would rather go on a nice vacation 1-2 times per year than wait then spend a fortune each time. As a general rule I have a fantastic time, and I feel very comfortable with my budget. One does not have to spend a fortune. The only secret is to have a positive attitude and a deep appreciation for the joys of life.

  3. On our Mediterranean cruise my son's luggage was lost. It did catch up with us about half-way through the cruise. The airline was very good about getting it to us.

The ship (NCL) had little bags for people who lost their luggage which included a t-shirt and toiletries. Also, he was given free laundry service. He had a change of clothes in his carry-on, a friend he made onboard give him another t-shirt, and I bought him a couple of things on the ship. It was annoying and a hassle, but everyone was super helpful. I filed a small claim with our travel insurance for the items that I bought for him on the ship and it was paid promptly.

  4. I think Indian food is wonderful. Usually when my family goes out to eat we have ethnic foods - Indian, Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Italian, Mexican... It's all good.

I am quite happy to have a wide variety of options. As they say variety is the spice of life.

  5. I just remembered this silly incident when my kids and I were on our first cruise. One day about mid-cruise my son, who was 14 at the time, was in the buffet by himself. Without thinking too much he clapped his hands twice to see what would happen. Two workers stopped to see how they could help him. He asked one of them to get him an iced tea and the other for a dessert. Bless their hearts, they actually got the items for him and thankfully my son had the good sense to tip them.

When he shared the story later that day we had a discussion about what what to do (and not to do) in the buffet. It still makes me laugh to think about it.
