What would you complain about? It's not Carnival's fault.

I’d complain about the fact that those of us on the sailing don’t even have emails from Carnival yet. It’s a Crappy way to find out. They should have been ahead of the news leak and gotten us letters first. It’s not their first rodeo. If you call they tell you to refer to the email.

So glad I read this! I know some parts are not very gay friendly however the only cruises that I can work out and times are parts of Bermuda and Carribean so I was wondering If there is any more ports to try and stay away from if possible? I mean it’s not like my wife and I would be overly affectionate esp different areas we would stop at but I would want to feel a bit at ease or safe at the ports if possible.

Sorry I am responding so late. I've been to over 15 other Caribbean islands and never had an issue. We stay with ship excursions or private tours. Jamaica is the only port we have had an issue with because we are gay.

Good luck and let us know where you end up!

I sympathize with your feelings.  I won't spend a nickel for a long vacation in Jamaica.  Things have changed for the better in recent years but not far enough. That said, If I were visiting on a cruise, I would get off the ship and at least test out the vendors close to the ship.  They're humans, some might be "family" but I would hope that not all are staunch anti-lgbt.

If it doesn't feel right, get back on the ship and enjoy a discounted in-port massage.

We purchased Cheers and are in a Havana Cabana so we'll go into the port for our favorite Rum Cream and then back on board to enjoy the ship amenities!

    lol

It is so sad to think I could be harmed for being me on vacation. Granted, even when I originally posted this, my wife and I are cautiously out no matter where we are (sad but true) and usually get asked if we are sisters but we won't ever go back to Jamaica. 5 pages later and I am glad I posted this!

Well, I am back 5 years later and I am going to eat my words.

My wife wanted to take a cruise for her birthday and one of the only cruises that worked with our time and needs was one that stops in Jamaica. We're in a REALLY nice cabin with a private pool area and have the drink package so we aren't getting off the ship.

  5. As you can see from my signature, I am an avid Carnival cruiser. As is my wife. On our last few cruises? the LGBT night has been outstanding. Not sure if it is because I am sitting at Alchemy anyway but we've met a lot of nice people! Just an FYI.

  6. I'll be on the Breeze in a few weeks and I'm doing a ketogenic diet, which is basically low carb(try for under 20g a day).

Breakfast should be easy with eggs, bacon and sausage however I need real eggs, not powdered. Does that mean dining room every morning?

Dinner should be pretty easy with a meat and veggie selection, but I wonder about high sugar sauces?

Lunch, I'm assuming there will be more than just bunless burgers, which get old? Would be nice to have a veggie selection instead of fries.

Also, I drink coffee, but only with heavy cream for the high fat content. Can I ask for this in the lido deck buffet? I'm aware they'll have 1/2 and 1/2 but I prefer heavy cream.

I may cheat with a sugar free dessert a few times. Any idea on if they have low sugar ice cream or sugar free cheesecake etc?

    Any other tips?

I am arriving late to this thread so I am sure you've gotten all the answers that you need (and probably advice you didn't need) but I follow South Beach Diet and always find everything I need.

For eggs, go to the omelette station - worth the wait but they will make you eggs over easy/medium/hard etc. there for you. You can eat steak or chicken off the every day menu - it has no sauce. Most things that do you can ask for it on the side. There is a salad bar (some new salad options on some Serenity Decks), usually have cold cuts too to add to the salad. You can do tacos with the trimmings sans shells, etc.

Talk with someone at guest services when you get on board. When my MIL was on a restricted diet the chef came to talk to us because we were doing chef's table but they were very accommodating!

  7. We had a great first experience at JiJi's (on the Sunshine) but when we went on the Vista for dinner, everything was either too sweet or too salty.

Typically, nothing is "bad" - all varies by what your heat and meat levels are (pork belly was amazing)

  8. Hey all,

I remember a few years ago on our first cruise DH and I purchased a mouthpiece for snorkeling onboard the ship when we purchased our shore excursion. Do they still sell these onboard the ships, and if so, how much are they? Also, are you only allowed to buy them onboard if you purchase the excursion once onboard, or can I reserve our excursions online thru the website and then purchase the mouthpiece on the ship? Thanks for any info you can provide, my mom is interested in snorkeling but said she wants her own mouthpiece. :)

In April, they were $5 a piece at shore excursions.

  9. Are we back in elementary school? For all that say yes are you going to police the serenity area, the chair hogs and the dress code in the dining room? I just believe either all rules are enforced or none. You simply cannot pick and choose.

Actually, yes. I am a Guardian (personality type) and rules just happen to be important to me. Especially when someone is making a point to let me know they are. It's the same speech I gave my floor in college when I was an RA: If I don't see, hear, smell or taste it, I don't know about it. But when you make it a point to do something so that I can see, taste, hear or smell it, don't cry to me for getting in trouble...

  10. You can do a search of these threads and get many opinions, as you will in starting your own thread.

That being said, of all the ships I've sailed on, Sunshine was my favorite. From the dining to the decor to the BEST SERENITY DECK EVER (um, they finally got it right with no screaming kids and adults from the slides on top of the quiet). Love that pool.

The spa is meh...small and not well kept up throughout the cruise. That was my only "complaint." But mostly, a cruise is what YOU make of it, you know? You'll have a blast I am sure.

  11. Opinion question.

On every other cruise I have been on - I always did the Late Dining. However, I thought I would do YTD this time so that I would have some flexibility for the shows (I prefer eating in the Dining Room rather than the Lido Deck).

But - I am concerned that the YTD option on the Thanksgiving cruise may not be the greatest of ideas.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks.

    Diana

Always do YTD here. Was on the Splendor this past Thanksgiving and had no issues. We found a staff we liked on the second night and requested them each night. Went later than our usual 6pm for turkey day dinner and had no issues requesting the same staff nor getting a table! Enjoy!

  12. Just be aware, large bottles of water are not included in the Cheers program. However, small bottles are included.

The Alchemy bar made Cheers worthwhile for me. Ioana and Maria will take care of you. [emoji16]

Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk

Aahhhh thanks. Then 3 bottles of little waters per person :)

Yes, we had Ioana on the Victory last year and loved her (and are FB friends) but she's leaving a few weeks before we get on. So sad!

  13. Sorry I am late to the discussion Tapi! Thanks for all your posts.

I've been on both, actually the Valor twice. And while I find the Breeze far superior when it comes to ship and offerings (decor for one is a stark difference - tropical v. Americana), I'd choose the Valor. While it isn't totally tricked out, it's still a great ship. I've only ever sailed with adults but I believe there is a kids play area, the slides of course, main pool, etc. For the $1700 saved, you can book another family cruise!

Again, I prefer the Breeze and, in 2012, paid probably close to that much more to sail on her. But, I also don't have kids. Of course, the choice is yours but I don't think that you can go wrong :) Cheers!

  14. Leaving tomorrow for this long ago planned cruise but the weather forecast for every port shows 80%+ chance of rain. :( Does Carnival cancel their excursions for pounding rain/storms? Kids are bummed about the upcoming dolphin snorkel most of all. I say pack the rain gear and carry on but for the snorkeling in almost every port, it's looking like it will be a washout. Boo. Hiss.

Remember, that rain in the Caribbean is like rain in Florida most times...there is one small storm and in 30 minutes it's over. Not always the case but keep that in mind. For our April 2013 cruise, my MIL's 60th birthday celebration, we had 5 ports and she was bummed that "it was going to rain 75+ chance in each one." It rained once for 5 minutes while snorkeling and then passed over. Sun came out soon after.

The only snorkeling excursion that was ever cancelled for us was in Belize - pounding thunderstorms from 1am (great to see from the vast ocean view of the ship) through 7am. No visability underwater so rightfully but disappointingly so, it was cancelled.

I hope you get nothing but sunshine!!!! bring sunscreen rain or shine!

  15. It really all depends. Of my 11 Carnival cruises, we've been late getting off the ship three times (late being after 9am). We always book our flights after 1pm for this reason. Those 9am disembarks there was rush-hour traffic, customs was a mess...

We don't mind waiting at the airport though as that disembarkation early breakfast runs through us by 11am anyway :)

  16. Can you walk me thru this process to use this feature.. Need to be able to check in kids when we are gone next week.. Sailing on breeze

Worked on the Splendor last month for us -it's how my nephew stayed connected to his girlfriend the entire cruise. Nothing to walk through really - connect to the ship's wifi when you go out to sea. Buy the social media package, open facebook, then depending on your phone, slide left to open chat, click on the person and as long as they are online, you can facebook chat. You can also send messages through the Facebook messenger feature.
