  1. Thanks for the info! I'm always grateful for the comments. We were looking more for convenience than anything so I think we've done ok. I'm just starting to do our research on the city and what we want to do. I can see that half the fun will be in the planning. My husband retires in 3 weeks and we are really looking forward to being able to travel more.:)

  2. I just booked 6 nights at the Doubletree Victoria in London between our two transatlantic cruises next spring. Just want to check with my cruise critic friends if I have chosen well! Can anyone that has stayed there or is familiar with the hotel tell me how far it is from the tube? My husband has knee issues and I'm trying to minimize his walking as much as I can. Also, are there pubs/restaurants in the area for dinner? Just starting to do my research on London, but want to make sure we've picked an acceptable location for a hotel, while I can still cancel and rebook elsewhere is necessary. Thanks in advance for any advice. :)

  3. :)We are curious. We are booked for a 26 day British Isles cruise in the spring and enjoy scheduled seating for dinner. Because this is two 13 day back to back cruises, are you matched with others that are staying the full 26 days or do you get new table mates for the second leg of the trip? Doesn't really matter, but just curious if anyone that has done a Grand Adventure knows the answer. Thanks!

  4. Our "winter vacation" was cancelled due to unexpected serious illness of my husband. Thankfully we had purchased the insurance and the total cost of the cruise along with the airfare we bought separately on our own was reimbursed. We have cruised for many years and when younger thought we could take our chances and did not purchase the insurance. We felt that we could cover the cost of the cruise if we were to cancel. What we didn't think about was if we had gotten ill while on a cruise. We have seen many people become ill and taken off the ship. I can't imagine the cost of being flown back to the U.S. My advice to young and old would be to purchase the insurance.(After having neurosurgery in March my husband is doing great and we are scheduled for our "winter vacation" in 2 weeks. So anxious!)

  5. Thanks! I am an advocate of travel insurance. We never purchased when we were younger, but I think it is valuable. We just had to cancel a cruise this winter when my husband was seriously ill and ended up having Neurosurgery. I was amazed that they even paid for our air which we purchased on our own.

  6. A real upgrade!!We purchased an interior room on the Riveria for our upcoming Caribbean cruise leaving June 1. I noticed that the balconies were selling for just a few dollars less than we paid. I called Princess and they upgraded us to a balcony on the Empress deck! Yea!:)

  7. We are scheduled for a 26 day British Isles Grand Adventure April 2015. Although we have cruised quite a bit, we are now able to start cruising for longer periods of time due to retirement. I am curious with those of you that have scheduled your own tours rather than through Princess. In Europe, for example, do most tours have to be paid prior to your cruise? My husband and I both have elderly parents and a sibling in a nursing home that we are responsible for. There is always a risk of having to cancel and it seems that this is one time that going through the cruiseline would be beneficial even though they are more costly.

  8. We are scheduled for a British Isles Grand Adventure 26 day cruise. It actually consists of 2- 13 day cruises. I'm curious if we will receive $250 (over 14 days)on board credit or $200 ($100 each for a 13 day cruise) because of our Carnival stock ownership. Either way will be nice, but just curious.

  9. I keep reading about the quick delivery of luggage to your room upon arrival to the ship with the "Faster to the Fun" program. Some have stated that they got their luggage delivered within 30 minutes. We have never gotten our luggage delivered quickly. We have never brought it to the attention of the porters. Is this what we're doing wrong? I just assumed the porters could read priority on the tags?

  10. We used Princess and everything was perfect. They were so good and so experienced. We had not one thing go wrong. We did not have any questions, as they had everything explained well on the daily tickets, etc. However, they always had someone available everywhere to assist if you had a question. We have gone twice with Princess to Alaska and highly recommend them.:)

  11. :) We recently returned from a Carnival Cruise and we, too, had a email stating that we were eligible for a premium bon voyage package. We received a wonderful basket with fruit, snack crackers, cheese and a bottle of wine, 2 large bottles of wine, $15 off a photograph and free drinks one evening at the casino.

  12. I just wrote to them via the Ocean Players Club website about 2 weeks ago. I waited a week and they didn't respond. I sent them another email as we have changed our email address and thought perhaps they had responded to the wrong address. I mentioned that this was the 2nd request and mentioned that we had a new email address. They promptly responded that there will be a bon voyage package for us. :)
