  1. I had to cancel a cruise back in February . My first time canceling .. I was going on a 'sister cruise' So, I feel your pain!!! And I agree thank goodness for insurance!! I am at lease getting to go on an even better cruise, it's not with my sister but we will get to go on one soon I'm sure!!

Im glad your friend is ok!! Hopefully you will be able to reschedule it soon!!

  2. I recently booked a cruise on the Dream !! And the price has dropped. I didn't book early saver, it's only 69 days till my cruise, is there anything I can do or do I just deal with the price i have ?

I booked an interior for 501 and it's now 479. I don't see upgrading cuz the OV price went way up (679) .. And it's past the 48 hr price guarantee.

So, call or just deal with the price and pout about it..

  3. You tried going through Carnival's channels and enough is enough.

It is time to go to the top.

If it was me, I would send an email to the ceo of CCL.

    Is it still Gerry Cahill?

Give a quick history of you as a customer and throw in something you like about Carnival in a short paragraph.

Then tell what happened and stick to just the facts in the second paragraph.

In paragraph three tell how what happened has made you feel.

And finally tell them what you want to make you a happy customer again.

Keep it short and easy to read.

The thing is that someone is going to get your email on their desk.

If you can suggest something simple that will help them resolve your problem, then you are more likely to get a result that you will like.

It does not hurt to ask.

I was planning on sending an email, but didn't think of sending it to the CEO .. Good idea ! I will work on that, thanks.

  4. In the big picture it is no big deal. Focus on the the initial deal and enjoy your cruise.

You are right, I'm not gonna let it ruin my trip at all.. That's why I'm just 'a little annoyed '

I understand how you both feel, but don't let it become such a challenge that you ruin your trip. A few months ago a friend told us about a great resort in NH. It is all inclusive and a beautiful inn. I looked at the website and fell in love with it. I booked a room for us for a weekend stay - the total was on my receipt. The next day I was balancing my account and noticed that they charged $10 more than what was on the receipt. I got on my high horse (& boy did I). I wrote a scathing email about the practice of billing too much and that they needed to honor the price on my receipt. You can't imagine how quick they responded. The refunded me every penny I paid and they apologized and said that based on my email they were sure I would rather not stay there so they were "releasing me of my obligation"! I had to tell my husband why we weren't going. You should have seen his face when he asked how much extra they charged and I told him $10! I still haven't gotten up the courage to try to book again! A vacation is a big expense... don't let a fairly small amount become a challenge that takes away from the planning and fun of your vacation!

I'm laughing because I can see me doing the very same thing.. I'm like a dog with a bone!!

  5. Now I'm even more than a little annoyed..

I've been on hold with carnival for 20 mins, they keep coming back and explaining how they admit the offer is no longer valid and that it is still on their website... They are gonna fix that, but that they will not honor it because it's the credit cards fault. They "cannot" give me OBC for it either. The credit card says they won't do anything about it because the offer is no longer valid.

I told the lady on the phone... If I was shopping in a store and an item had a sale tag on it and I went to pay for it and the sale was over, the store would honor that sale because the sign was still up. Somehow Carnival doesn't do that... .

I realize it's not a lot of money but it sure is aggravating ..

    Poor customer service!

  6. You may get a $50 gift card from them, which you can use to apply to your S&S balance.

I got a similar email a while back, applied, was approved and received the card. My offer said I would receive a $75 gift card(which can be used to pay toward a cruise or S&S), which I did finally receive and I will use that on our upcoming cruise.

Do you need a number to call the credit card company? I'll see if I can find one in my paperwork.

No, I called them and they said NOPE not gonna happen ... It's frustrating ..

  7. Ok, so I've been watching the cruise I want to take for a good deal.. This morning it dropped a good amount so I booked it .. (Carnival dream Yay)

So as I'm booking, right before the payment part it says, "Get $50.00 this cruise, apply for a carnival credit card". I say SWEET another 50 bucks off, I'll take it!

So I fill out the credit app, it says congratulations your approved, then says for me to continue on to booking.. So, I did assuming it was going to transfer my credit card info..NOPE. It asked me for my cc number, which I obviously do not have as of yet...

So, I call Barclays (who the credit card is thru) they say, "nope you can't use it until you get the card in the mail.... "

I call carnival and they say " oh there is an error that promotion is no longer available".

Now, that's aggravating. I know it's only 50 bucks but that's just not right!! I took a screen shot of the get 50 off the cruise offer link... I don't know who I should call to complain about this too...

  8. You are going to get all sorts of replies. Truth is, you win some and you lose some. Depends on how popular the cruise is.

I've done an inside guarantee 2 or 3 times. Imagination we ended up with a very aft room on Main deck. 2nd Victory trip might've been guarantee & it was a midship room on main deck. Our upcoming Valor cruise we were just assigned a midship-aft near elevators on Empress Deck. I've been pleased with my room assignments to date.

I'm hoping for more good than bad.. So far it's even.

  9. My husband and I are going on the Dream in May. The price hasn't been the greatest. Yesterday it was 599.00 for an interior (if they pick room) and today it was 569. It's 629.00 if you pick your own room:eek:

So, I booked (well it's on a 24 hr hold) a room with them picking the room.

I'd love to know what experiences people have had doing this. I've never not picked my own room so I'm nervous.

  10. What if the category you want sells out? It's not like your friend is doing a poker tournament in Vegas where you could just stay at a different hotel...you need to be on the same ship, right? I'd book now.

Hang tight for a bit. Best rates are usually at the 6 week mark. That date in May isn't a peak week. Most kids still in school.

    Ha, both good points ..

I am hoping most kids are in school .. Especially since everyone has had such a bad winter, maybe some schools (like here in NC) will be extending the school year to make up for all the snow days.

    Very tough decision !

  11. Have sailed on Sensation seven times over the years. Looking at Paradise for a change ....will we be disappointed ?

I said on it last June and it was a great cruise. The ship is older but the staff was the best of any ship I've ever been on!!

    You will love it

  12. Thanks,

It's not the greatest price at all. It's 50 something a night for an inside. It's the start of summer so I assume it's high for that reason, and my friend won a spot on the poker tournament which is the only reason we are going that week, but maybe that's why it's higher than usual.

I've always wanted to go on the dream, I'm not crazy about the price though ... I guess I'm just gonna have to deal with the high price :(

  13. My friends and I are planning on taking a cruise on the Dream in May (17th) obviously I cannot book early saver so my question is when is the best time to book. The price has been pretty steady, I keep hoping it will go down some.. Do ya think it will go down any or should I just go ahead and book it now.

Also, if I book the, let them choose the room rate, do you think I'll get a decent room or do they tend to stick you in the worst room possible?

  14. I'm going to get flamed for this I'm sure but what the heck.

Feb 2 is over a week away. Surely all the funeral stuff will be over by then. Maybe I'm cold or uncaring or something but life goes on. I don't obviously know anything about your sister or her family but I would think if there was a big loss of money the husband would be understanding if his wife went on her trip.

People usually return to life, work etc. after a few days unless it was a tragic death or a child or something don't they?

Your not gonna get flamed from me, I agree with ya. In fact I told my sister that and told her to think about it. She took a week off work, her husband by then will be back at work and she will be sitting at home angry cuz she's not on a cruise. I haven't canceled anything yet. I told her id wait till Tuesday to do anything

We also had to cancel our cruise (January 30th on the Ecstasy) because my husband's Mother is dying of cancer and is under Hospice care. We have trip insurance through the same company (Allianz) which I purchased from Insure My Trip dot com. I have submitted all the paperwork required and am waiting for a response. My claim status says "please allow 10 days for us to review your documentation". So I can't really see it taking 3 months.

Good luck with all this - hope it works out for you. And me too since the policy requires a sick relative to be in the hospital to be covered and she doesn't want to die in the hospital - she has moved in with my husband's brother. I hope the Hospice thing counts as "hospital".

    Kim

I'm really sorry about your mother in law!

Hopefully it won't take too long to get your money back. I did see on the website where it said 10 days also.. I hope that is the truth.
