Hi, Cathy!  Long time, no see!

I would cancel.  JMO.  (and as stated, cancel your cruise planner items first.  They'll go back to your credit card)

Hey back at ya!  I thought for sure I’d be getting back in the swing of things.  I did move to Florida this past fall so at least I have access to sun, sand & surf year-round.

Did you have to state that you did not agree with the protocols, or was this just a regular Cruise With Confidence cancellation?

I don’t know.  Our TA sent us an urgent email explaining things and said basically we have until tomorrow to cancel or we can choose to continue e the sailing.

  3. Our TA has given us the option to cancel our 2/6 Odyssey cruise with a full refund less the $250 deposit which will become a FCC.  I’m waiting or a call back but as usual my impatience is growing.

So my question here is, will we be refunded the amount of the deluxe drink packages and CocoCay excursions we purchased?

    Thanks,
    Cathy

    Debarkation and Florida Aquarium:

Out flight home was at 4 so we had time to kill. We got up just in time to head to Chops before they closed breakfast at 8. After eating the kids ran around Colony Club. It was a good place for that. Lots of space to run around and a good view of the forklift and the pool tables. Since the aquarium doesn't open til 9:30 we stayed there til they said "everybody off"

We headed off the ship, grabbed a porter who took us all the way to the front of the aquarium. At that point it was 10 minutes til they open. The kids liked the fish and really enjoyed the playground in back. We ate there and the chicken fingers were surprisingly good.

From there we grabbed an Uber XL and headed to the airport to get home.

Can you offer more detail on the aquarium?  My sister & niece’s flights don’t leave until about 7 pm after our Brilliance cruise 3/2-7.  The aquarium might be something they could do to kill some time.

    Thanks,

    Cathy

  5. Can someone help me w/this.  My last cruise was March 2018.  We got a very fair price for the drink pkg on that cruise.  Bought it about 145 days out.  We're 190+ days out for the next cruise and the 30% off shows $57 pp per day + 15.29% gratuity.  (That's an odd amount.  It use to be 18%.)  Is that about the going rate these days?  I know we can cancel and rebook if the price goes down, but I'm wondering if this is about as good as it's going to get based on more recent drink package pricing.

    Thanks,

    Cathy

  6. I’m not upset, just surprised over the email I received regarding our March 2, 2020 Brilliance cruise.

Six of us gals picked this cruise for the (original) itinerary and the date which is not something we can change.  Our itinerary was Tampa, Key West, Cozumel and two sea days.  A couple of the gals were excited about going to Cozumel for the first time.  So much for that plan.

The revised itinerary has us going from Tampa to Key West, Nassau, CocoCay and a day at sea returning to Tampa. Shoot, if I wanted to go on a Bahama cruise, I would have gone out of Port Canaveral, an hour down the road.

I’ve been to Nassau more times than I care to count and I’m really not interested in “Perfect Day at CocoCay” so in my case, I’ll have 4 sea days and a short stop in Key West.  Works for me!

My glass is always half full. 🥃

  7. when you turn on airplane mode it disables the WIFI-

you need to turn wifi back on manually, then connect to voom, then try messaging again

    Did that.

also you need enable wifi calling under settings>cellular

Never did that before but I do remember setting it up when I read about it a few months ago.

Thanks. I don’t know if I want to do that for this cruise. We’re only gone till Friday.

  8. Hey Bob. We boarded the Majesty today. I have lots of things to say but I need your advice on just one particular thing.

On my last few cruises, I could have sworn we communicated on board, those of us with iPhones, by texting. We used Messenger for only those who had Samsung phones.

I paid for a 2 device pkg and set it up. All was well until we left Port Canaveral. Tried to send a message to the hubby and it said I had to turn off Airplane Mode and try again. Another reason I know I used iPhone texting before is because the hubby hadn’t downloaded the Messenger App.

I went to Guest Services (the Voom person) and she said there is no way to “text” on any ship. The only messaging is via FB Messenger.

Is there any truth to what she’s telling me? Verizon is our provider and we’ve never had international calling.

I know if you can’t help there’s someone out there who can.

    Thanks,

    Cathy

  9. No problem, the system knows which package was purchased and allows the appropriate number of concurrent logins.

Awesome. I'm going to go make the purchase, I know I'll get a Diamond discount if I wait until we're onboard but w/the current sale the total cost is $11.19/pp per day for the 2 device package. Seems very reasonable now that I have confirmation it'll work for us.

    Thanks again Bob.

  10. FYI if you don't already have this function enabled. If on your smartphone, you "enable WiFi calling," and you go on "airplane" mode, your phone will switch to "WiFi calling" and you can text, make phone calls, etc. over the VOOM for free (for U.S. phones). When enabled, your phone will automatically switch to "wifi calling" if it's connected to the internet and the cell signal is weak (that's how it works for us in our house due to weak cell signal). But on the ship the cell signal is strong so go to airplane mode to force the switch.

The number you call doesn't need to be in the U.S., it just needs to be a domestic number. I have AT& T and I know Verizon also offers the service. It's free and works very well. I have used it in Europe also. As long as your phone says it's in wifi calling, on AT&T it will show the carrier as "ATTwifi." for Verizon it will show the carrier as "VZWwifi". If it says that, you are good to go. We used it on Oasis to call and text each other on the ship.

I’m researching options to save money for some first time cruisers on the Majesty next month.

So, going by your suggestion, on an iPhone 6 and above, we enable WiFi calling, put the phone in airplane mode, then we can text each other throughout the cruise, in Nassau and CocoCay, for $0 cost and no need to contact our carrier(Verizon)?

Seems like a great idea if all we want to use our phones for is to text each other and take pictures.

    Am I understanding this correctly?

    Thanks,

    Cathy

  11. Seems to me that your kids e-mails have been hacked. That's the source of the e-mails.

Either that, or yesterday was a day of badly re-cycled e-mails, as I got a message congratulating me on a nook purchase. Which I bought 4 years ago. And I got a follow up email telling me that it was a mistake...

The got the same Nook emails.
