  1. Before my question I would like to point out that I AM legal drinking age and am not asking for your opinion into my morals or character. That being said my question is this...

Can you use cruise cash or any other program where how many drinks you buy comes on a separate statement from your sign and sail account. My husband thinks that I "partake" too much and I really don't want to be arguing with him about this and neither of us enjoy our cruise. He is very OCD and I am sure that he will be examining the account daily and would rather he not be keeping a tally on me. :D

If you have the cheers program, each drink shows up as a $0.00 charge. However, soda's show up that way too when using Cheers. So....lie and say they're sodas!

  2. We were wanting to cruise on the Sunshine for our next cruise, when I look on Carnival's site for their schedule it doesn't go out two years like most other ships. Are they going into drydock or something during the spring of 2016? Very odd that you can book other ships that far out, but not the Sunshine.

  3. Wife and I are going on our first cruise in a couple weeks. Can anyone explaing the routine for disembarking? I searched and foound very little that answered questions I have. It appears that If you aren't carrying your luggage off, you have to have it outside your door the night before (correct?). And when you get up the last morning, breakfast is available; but where? After that, what do you do? What time do you HAVE to be out of your cabin? I also read that they disembark in "groups" or "zones"; is there a designated/specific area you HAVE to wait in? How do you know what zone you are in?

    Thanks!

  4. That's awesome! I am done writing day 4, I just need to complete some scanning, upload the pictures and a special surprise (if I can get it work) so, stay tuned. I hope it will all be ready soon.

I just want to thank you for the time and effort that it takes to put this together. I anxiously await each new installment, but am very aware that this isn't your primary responsibility so it will take time....especially with all the detail you include. Thanks again!

  5. My last cruise I saw the bartender tell somebody they had to go to guest services before he could get them a drink. The passenger said something about adding more money.

That would suck! However, we are getting the Cheers program and plan on bringing enough cash for that.

Curious, if you use cash to establish your S&S account upon check-in, can you go to the kiosk and use your debit card to add funds in increments? Or does that put you back in the account fund hold game?

  6. Carrying cash doesn't make me nervous, so instead of playing the whole card roulette game I'm taking cash for my shipboard account. My question is, how do you know when you need to go add more cash to your account? I understand you can check your S&S account on your room TV. Is that the primary method of tracking it? Do they leave a message/bill in your room to let you know? What about at the end of the cruise? Just go to the purser's desk and cash out?

  7. You could get one of those prepaid VIsa cards and apply your money to the card and then use the card for your expenses on the ship. If you have any money left over, you can use the card back home.

Not an expert by any means on this topic....however, wouldn't that be the same as using your debit card from your bank? If carnival places a hold onto it each time your onboard account needs replenished and doesn't release the previous hold won't it just snowball until your account is maxed out?

  8. Will be traveling on The Freedom in 3 weeks and 6 days, I have been buying cruise cash weekly, like stated before if you do not use it you lose it, therefore I buy a couple hundred dollars and enough to cover 1 carnival excursion about 600.00 total. I also prepay my gratuities and pay additional tipping as I go for good service. Another thing I do I pay for my hotels(2 nights) in advance with my debit card. This system works well for me and my wife. It makes her feel better that we never cruise on credit, strictly cash and carry. Have a great cruise.:):):):)

That's exactly how we like to vacation. Everything. Paid for with cash and/or in advance.

  9. Wife and I are flying into Melbourne the day before our cruise. We are planning on using shuttle/taxi service from airport to hotel and then from hotel to the port. Right now we have reservations at the Marriott Courtyard in Melbourne. Should we maybe try and get something closer to the port? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Would like something in the price range of $100-150/night (We have become hotel "snobs" over the last 10 years or so. So we prefer something similar to a Marriott Courtyard vice Red Roof Inn or Days Inn type places).

    Thanks in advance!!!

  10. I got a reply from Carnival....

Thank you for contacting Carnival Cruise Lines. We received your e-mail message and appreciate the opportunity to be of assistance.

You are exactly right. You should bring an extension cord for your CPAP. It should be from six to eight feet long. I hope you have a lovely cruise.

Thank you again for allowing us to be of assistance. If there is anything else we can do for you, please don't hesitate to ask.

    Sincerely,

  11. This had gotten WAY off topic. All I wanted to know was the pros and cons of using either a debit card or cash for S&S. That I believe has been properly discussed.

People's personal opinions on why/why not someone should have a credit card are not relevant to the original question. Financial arrangements for emergencies and/or other unexpected travel problems don't really apply either. If you want to discuss those topics, please go create your own thread and stop monopolizing this thread to discuss your views.
