We travelled on IndiGo airlines 11 months ago and would recommend that airline.

We did the Mutianyu section in late June a couple of years back and didn't find it crowded.

Whilst it used to be a great card to use overseas especially when you could load it up with cash and use it like a debit card, sadly you can no longer. See https://www.28degreescard.com.au/credit-card-features/ and note the fee on cash advances which now applies.
We still use it for credit card purchases overseas as there is no international transaction fees and the exchange rates are usually very fair. Recently it also introduced a fee for 'payment handling'

It was interesting on the recent QM2 that Cunard sent emails which stated I would not be able to board in Brisbane if I didn't have the China visa yet apparently about 300 did not. I heard from one couple whose TA checked the requirement for a visa and assured them it was not required. They were still able to board but stayed onboard at Shanghai.

Go for it Mark.
I was on both the inaugural Eden and Aria cruises and experienced the highs and lows. Whilst I enjoyed the cruise especially being part of the 5 ship spectacular, the lows should not have happened then and really should not still be happening. Unfortunately in the beginning, reality didn't match the hype. But I would love to try them again but not for a while.
Just my opinion....

Hi, I'm quite interested in your feedback on taking a private tour of Bali on New Year's Day. We will be tendered from 7:00-17:00 this year. I've recently joined our roll-call thread, and there are a few scary stories about the traffic there and getting back to the ship. This in turn is making me re-think the excursions we have arranged for ourselves.
Was returning on time a nail-biter in your experience?
Currently my spouse and I are planning two different excursions - he'll be scuba diving, and they intend to pick him up at 7:30 for a 15:30-16:00 return... I've got a private tour, which picks up at 8:00 to visit per the driver's recommended itinerary: Batubulan @To watch traditional Barong and keris dance
- ubud art village @ celuk for their silver smith. Wood art and painting
- Susut village visiting agro tourism for famous coffee luwak
- Tampak siring @ Holy spring temple named Tirta Empul
- Tegalalang @ Ceking rice terrace*
- Ubud Monkey Forest*
Does this seem doable in your experience with the traffic to be expected on New Year's Day? Cheers, Jessica
We were in Bali on New Years day but didn't go to Ubud or most of the other places you intend to visit. Our driver amended our itinerary according to the traffic on the day and we trusted him so it's really up to you to insist you get back to the ship in plenty of time which may mean you need to adjust your itinerary. Their reputation and livelihood depends on recommendations from sites such as this.

I've only ever sailed into Sydney in the early morning and it's definitely worth getting up for. I love the view of Sydney from outside the heads at dawn. So special...

Did you replace the AT with @ ?

I'm happy to recommend http://www.bruneibay.net/bruneicruiseships/index.html for your visit to Brunei. We used this tour operator in December 15 and was very happy with the tour. They were quick to reply to any queries. If you can organise a group through your ship's roll call, it will work out cheaper.

No worries, glad to help.

As you disembark at the port in Penang, there are many enthusiastic taxi drivers willing to take you on a tour. From memory we toured for about 6 hours for around
A$40. Our only disappointment on the day, was the less than luxurious taxi with very intermittent airconditioning (It was a hot day!) So our lessoubn learnt was to check the vehicle before agreeing to the tour/price, but we did have an enjoyable day...

We used Catherine Lu in Beijing and would highly recommend her but she is very popular, so book early. Check out her webpage at http://catherinelutours.com/

I can also recommend Don Bosco Hotel school. We had a memorable Xmas day tour and lunch in 2013.

I prefer to prebook tours after researching online.
I also used Zoom in Saigon and highly recommend his professional service.
In Brunei I used and recommend Intrepid tours http://www.bruneibay.net/bruneicruiseships/index.html/.
I've found that with both these tour operators, tours can be customised to your preferences.

We stayed at the Goodward Park hotel 2 years ago. The hotel was great especially the high tea. The room was large and overlooked the pool. The only downside was the bed which was extremely firm. Orchard Rd shops were only a 5-10 min walk away.

Hi Tracey
Hmm scary....that man was my better half. Mel made it into the bus but stupidly still tried to give one particular lady some money for helping him up some steps. He put his arm out of the small bus window and nearly had his arm ripped off. Lesson learnt, I hope....
Otherwise a fantastic Asian adventure ☺
