  1. Thank you so much for all your helpful input. I'm now armed with enough positive indicators to get that cruise booked. Although I was looking at Arvia today and they have an offer of £720 OBC at moment. I love Britannia but double OBC could change my mind.

  2. DH and I are looking to book Caribbean transatlantic March 2024. We have always flown both ways before but mobility needs force a gentler mode of transport at least one way so looking at Britannia ( our favourite P and O offering) in March. DH is a sun worshipper and is loath to give up actually being in the Caribbean for sailing home in less warm temperatures .I know this depends on many things but as a general rule of thumb how many days sunbathing would be available between leaving our last port and Ponte Delgada? Can anyone who has done this trip or similar advise please? Thanks

  3. We tried the Iona on a Norwegian Fjords cruise in June. There were many children onboard even tho it was not school holidays. Most were ok but the few that were unruly were very unruly. Our balcony overlooked a hot tub and children were playing in it, screaming loudly and running up and down and at times " bombing " into the hot tub ( tho they must b shallow so I'm not sure how there were no injuries) . At times we had to abandon the balcony because of the noise . There appeared to be no parental supervision. Also at night in the lounge children were running around and climbing onto the stage and one child was almost hurt when a piece of equipment became unstable due to her shenanigans. Otherwise the Iona is shiny new. It was very noisy and despite the "loads of seating " the reviews heralded we found it nigh impossible to sit for a while between venues. We do have slight mobility problems but it's way too big and busy for us. If you are fit and don't mind the busyness of it then you'll be fine.

    Hello,

It is most definitely worth the extra!

You will need, as soon as you are on board, to go to deck 6 (Beethoven) and the L'Atelier Bar where, at the entrance to the Indochine Restaurant, is a counter for forward specialty restaurant bookings. I've never seen this marked or signposted anywhere, you are just supposed to know. You cannot make a short-cut and go directly to the Butchers Cut as it doesn't work like that.

If it is a 'booze cruise' then the restaurants will probably be quiet until late.

    Regards,

    Cublet

    Thank you so much.

  5. DH and I doing 2nighter on Virtuosa from Southampton. As it's our 50th Wedding Anniversary cruise we would like to do Butchers Cut but only being offered 3 4 or 5 " dining experiences" when trying to book before we go. I realise this will be a booze cruise so what are the chances of being able to book once on board? And is it worth the extra?

  6. Thanks for that info. I've done the photo by app which took about the same as yours. Completed forms for DH and me and have received confirmation both applications are received so I will post passports back tomorrow and wait. I have about 6 weeks till  cruise so I'm feeling confident it'll all be ok. Thanks again.

  7. I will be taking a 2 day Guernsey cruise in August . Recently I was told my passport expires in December so I need to renew. Do I need a passport to get on the ship as ID or as I am not leaving Britain will a driving licence be ok? I am concerned my new  passport will not be provided in time.

  8. Not heard of extend your stay but on many occasions with a late flight after the cruise we have taken a Celebrity excursion which drops off at named airport(s). We have only taken them when the excursion is interesting to us. One boards the coach at the disembarkation port, the luggage is loaded on the coach. We are driven on the coach with our luggage for the excursion then dropped off with our luggage at the airport for our flight.

We have never been disappointed in the excursion, the guide/driver and are at the airport in good time for our flight.

Thankyou foryour reply. Unfortunately DH and I have poor mobility. The excursions on offer for Venice are too strenuous for us and therefore we are unable to use this option. We have sailed with Celebrity several times and have never seen this option offered before either, hence my question.

  9. DH and I are on September/October cruise Venice/Croatia/ Malta and have a late flight home. Checking excursion page out I have come acrosss Xtend Your Stay. Has anyone tried this option and if so could you update me on how it works? We would be very interested in this facility but I am unsure how booked transfers to airport would work, how luggage is stored, how long we are allowed to stay on ship and any other information available.

    Thank you

  10. Seeing DHs face as he checks out the cabin and balcony. He has Rheumatoid arthritis and is in constant pain, but still works hard for us and although I can see the pain on his face he never complains. Our one vice in life is our cruises and for him to know he has at least ten days of luxury and rest ahead of him is a joy. The cruise really starts when he has had his first beer in the warm sunshine and turns to me and says "This is the life eh babe?" and winks. Even though we are both approaching 60 and have been married almost 40 years it still makes my heart flutter. ;)

  11. DH and I did a med cruise a few years ago. We visited Rome and we both agreed that it is the most beautiful city in the world in our opnion.

Everything from the colosseum to the Trevi fountain is stunning and memorable, but St Peter's Basilica brought tears to my eyes with its beauty and stunning architecture.

Are we not very lucky people to have these memories? :)

  12. HI Am reading this thread with great interest. I have just been diagnosed with a serious and lifeshortening illness. We have cruised many many times and have often had people make comments, but this has never bothered us. I have been told that if this disease follows its course I will be housebound within less than 2 years and possibly not live much longer than 5 more years. As I have said to DH I will NOT be saying " I wish I had cruised less" when my time comes. We are trying to arrange as many cruises as time and finances will allow before I am unable to do them. SO next time you feel someone thinks badly of you for cruising so much, don't let it bother you. (Hope this post doesnt bring anyone down ):)

  13. HI! DH and I without fail, sing "I'm So excited" on the way to the airport. Its fine when just us two, but the year we went with friends they did NOT find it amusing. They wont be coming with us again! AND we ALWAYS "OOH and AAH" at the atrium. Cant wait for Equinox Ooctober 2011 BRING IT ON!
