  1. We have been to Rome a number of times. Sometimes we get the ROMA pass, sometimes we just pay for the bus as we go, and sometimes we cab it. Now with Uber we have a fourth choice.

But, if we were to stick with bus in Rome, I have yet to figure this out and I hope there are a few of you who have.

We stay near Piazza Navona so we have lots of choices. When going Eastward, we usually end up on the 64 or 40 (are those the right numbers?). But each time, the bus seems to terminate at Piazza Venezia. The question is: How to continue further East, especially on ****onale or northerly to Villa Borghese? The buses queued up by Piazza Venezia just seem to sit forever.

    Thanks!

  2. Campolady,

How nice to know you are still around. I think some of us did not realize that there was this other thread. Glad you are still posting with all your great suggestions.

We have been in Malaga before and enjoyed the foodie tour with one of the excellent operators there. This time we would just like to wonder around and enjoy. We DO want to do Churros and Chocolate. They took us to this wonderful spot that had every person living in Malaga eating there. I know it is just to the left of the tourist info center but not sure of the street name(s). I am sure it is very famous but cannot figure which one. We were seated in a small stall like store and there were quite a few of these spots up and down the alley. Of course you don't know which one it was but I know you can probably take a good guess.

And then from there if we walk north and then east we will encounter the pedestrian street (Lario?) and back to the shuttle. Is that correct? We did the market last time. Is that still worthwhile but I cannot figure the walking route.

    Thanks!

  3. Campolady,

You are just so full of great info and on multiple threads, too!

We were in Malaga a few years ago and did an organized tapas tour. We will be there next year and want to do the same thing on our own. I did have them take us (there were only 5 of us total on the tour) to one of the biggest churros spots I ever saw. It was early and it seemed like the business was using other businesses all around them to handle all the people eating and drinking the Chocolate. Wonderful stuff. But by this simple description, can you guess where this place was? We left from the visitor's center and walked North (?) and a little west perhaps. I know it is not much to go on.

    Thanks!

  4. Hello. I was wondering if there is an easy way to tell about the balcony cabin configuration. We just did Eclipse with the bed next to the balcony door and we think there is more room the opposite way. We have a booking on Reflection for next year. While booking on board, the future cruise agent was able to tell the configuration but we have changed the cabin. The travel agent called Celebrity and the agents on the phone could not tell her how the cabin was set.

    Thanks for the help!

  5. This seems to be a popular thread for general info on Boston.

We WILL be on one of those TA's with our first US as Boston. Hopefully they have gotten the word that this is such a waste they maybe will be better as time goes.

I, too, am looking for a great Lobster Roll and maybe chowder near the port. I know about the chowder house.

Can we walk from the ship the No Name restaurant on the pier? How far do you figure? I thought I might take the bus (SL2?) from the port if there is a stop near that restaurant. Then continue further in to Quincy Market.

If I would take SL2, doesn't it terminate at a large station before getting to the market? If so, which bus to transfer to?

    Thanks so much.

  6. I think the folks that prefer NOT to experience afternoon tea in London are the same ones who cruise with a small carry on bag and on formal nights, frequent the MDR in a clean Tee shirt.

Understood that there are less expensive meals even in London. But let's not give up all elegance. At least not yet.

  7. Hi. I know this thread is a little dated. We will be in Boston Nov. 4 2017 on a cruise and will probably do the same thing. What I probably want to do is take the bus around, then get off as it comes around near Quincy Market (something like stop15) and head over there. There is supposed to be cruise ship loop which we can get at stop 1.

The question I have is eating at Quincy. I am looking for lobster roll (maybe 2 different spots), clam chowder, and maybe even a whole lobster lunch. I know Quincy market is a bit touristy and I usually avoid those spots but this is our first trip to Boston and less than 8 hours to do it.

Recommendations for which spots for these meals is appreciated.

  8. So many choices. The Orangery sounded wonderful. The Ritz is supposed to be way formal. We are headed for a cruise after London and those bags will not be opened until on board. And there is only a Tux and bow ties!

I just recently heard about a bus that drives around town and you have tea on it! That has gotten some nice reviews.

We did Harrods a few years ago and the food was excellent but it was late and the service was rushed.

  9. There are so many wonderful places to have afternoon tea in London. The reviews all sound so wonderful but they do sound a bit like advertisements. But we need to do this once pre cruise (The DW wants to do this twice in 4 days! I don't think so). We are considering OXO tower because it also has savory bits besides the tea. That would be an early dinner. Has anyone been to this one? The Orangery sounds lovely. Dean Street Townhouse is impossible to get in to without reservation.

Any definite thoughts about which one to do?

  10. Hello. Sorry to horn in on your thread. We will be on Harmony for the Transatlantic and I have a question for you. You said you did Palma on your own, right? You seem to have the definitive answers.

Where did she park in Palma? Did RCL provide a shuttle (free or not) if Harmony was at the distant pier? We are planning on the HOHO bus and doing our own thing. Especially at the market and I hope it is something like La Boqueria in Barcelona.

Thanks and thank you for the detailed review and pics. Hope the trip home was uneventful.

  11. Roger,

Thats great! Thanks. Kind of what I needed to know too. I assume the cathedral is well marked on most maps?

Unfortunately, RCCL is not known for having shuttles available. One time they did when Barcelona was a stop, not a terminus. When it is a terminus, the port bus is our only hope. Wonder what Palma will have?

  12. Hi. This thread is vey helpful for sure.

We will be on Harmony of the Seas Oct 24. According to one thing I picked up from a site that sells tickets for the HOHO bus is that we will be docked at the "other" port terminal. The name escapes me right now. Deiseig?

Question is: I really wanted to do the HOHO bus from the port, see the city, maybe get off at the Olivar Market for lunch, do El Cortes Ingles, Bellver, and back to the ship. But now, it seems we have to cab it to the HOHO bus and then back to the terminal. I know it is not too expensive but I am sure the cabbies are the same as in Rome and Naples. They just don't want to do such short trips. I actually don't blame them!

Is this the only option other than a private tour or ship's tour? Is there anything around that terminal worth looking at? Any shopping or NON-tourist lunch spot? If we opt for the cab to the HOHO, where should we tell the cab to let us off? Maybe go direct to the Market by cab and then can we catch the HOHO bus near there and pay on board?

    Thanks!

  13. We will be in Palma in October. We thought about doing a tour.

Has anyone done the HOHO bus there? We are curious as to its route. I have seen in on line but it is a bit confusing. I know that it also depends on which pier you end up at and then the HOHO stop is an issue sometimes.

We ARE on Harmony of the Seas so can I assume there is only 1 pier large enough to accommodate this behemoth?

We especially are curious as to the direction the bus takes. I think there is a market similar to La Boqueria in Barcelona. Anyone know any more about this? We love local food and figure that might be a good spot for lunch. Any ideas on that?

    Thanks!

  14. Exactly my thoughts. I just didn't know if it was feasible. Is there much shopping as far up as the museum? But this sounds like the plan.

Is there a good place along Toledo for Olive oil to bring home? We live near Port Everglades so extra shopping bags is no problem :)

    Thanks!

  15. Euro, that is the kind of stuff I am looking for! I did see on the map the 202 goes up Umberto. The problem is the streets look different on the ground than on a map! :D

OK. At Da Michele. Now, how to get to Via Toledo? Take subway to MUSEO? Is there a bus that would get me there? I figure to start out walk back from the North end and head towards the port

    Thanks

  16. We need to choose between an organized tour or what we prefer to do is walk around town. Yes, even in Napoli.

What we want to do is get over to our favorite pizzeria in Naples, Da Michele, and then over to Via Toledo and stroll back to the ship. The toughest thing is getting from the ship to the restaurant. It is a short cab ride and it is tough finding one who will do it. Does anyone know how to use PUBLIC transport from the port, east on Corso Umberto I? It IS near the Garibaldi station but last year we got lost leaving the station and ended up in a pretty dicey area. Never did get to the pizza place.

Then from Da Michele to the north end of Via Toledo. Can anyone suggest where to start on Toledo to see most of the shopping?

    Thanks

  17. Hi. I know that most things are closed on Sundays in Barcelona.

I have heard that some Sundays El Cortes Ingles does open. Does anyone know the schedule or how to find the schedule online. I did find something last year but alas, not to be found. We will be there 23OCT16.

    Thanks.

  18. Hi. Stopping in Palma on the Transatlantic Harmony of the Seas in October. We figure to catch the HOHO bus and wing it.

For those of you who know the city, can you give us a couple of stops that we should get off the bus that will give us our best time for

    1) lunch /Tapas and 2) Shopping. Sights too but we probably have some limited time. I think I saw on one map an El Cortes Ingles in palma.

    Thanks

  19. We were on a TA Barcelona - Port Everglades Oct, 2015. One of our group had initially put this together and the tour company kind of "took" over. For us, this was transparent and the entire experience was excellent.

We were met in Barcelona promptly and were on our way early. The coach was a big tight for a large guy like me but nonetheless, as comfortable as these things usually are. The guide was outstanding and very funny and did not miss anything. The driver was very good and courteous.

This was a trip to The Alhambra. When we arrived, we were split in to 3 groups. Our guide was so knowledgeable, enjoyable, and very thorough. It is a bit strenuous depending on your age and ability. This complex is not just one building but an enormous place with gorgeous grounds and buildings. Both Moorish and Christian.

The trip back to Malaga seemed to take a bit less time and we did go to the main square. It started pouring and everyone went their own way to have something to eat or shop. The bus met us at the appointed time and back to the ship.

We highly recommend this tour operator and this particular tour.
