  1. Its must more of the " ME, ME, ME" generation.

The its MY vacation and I'll do what I want generation.

The bringing a baby into the MDR generation

Jerks and self-absorbed people come from all generations. Some of the worst people I've ever encountered were from the so-called "Greatest Generation"

  2. The Texas Legislature has cut revenue from taxes down to the bare bone so now they are trying to make up for the shortfalls they are creating with things like this...it's a bait and switch where they can claim to have lowered taxes while in reality they have just disguised them as "fees" that hit the middle class much harder.

  3. I have a toddler myself and love kids..have no problem with them onboard. As the spouse of a teacher, I think it's not a good idea to take kids out of school to go on vacation. They get plenty of time off every year and to foresake their education for a cheaper cruise rate seems wrong to me.

  4. Although that sounds very noble, TA's need to make money to pay their bills too, so all of them care. But I agree that some may care less than others.

I'm sure that there are TA's that will gladly honor price drops if brought to their attention, but I still haven't learned of a single TA that has voluntarily initiated a price drop for a client.

My TA has voluntarily initiated a price drop on every one of my cruises so it happens. As others have said, just need to get a good TA.

  5. We have been on both Magic and Triumph. Both times on Magic with our kids. Both times on triumph with other couples (no kids). We went on the Triumph when it wasn't the summer, and there weren't many kids. Since you are going in July I would imagine there would be some.

On the Triumph, the Casino is awesome! Even if you don't gamble, they have a live band in the evenings next to Casino Bar and this great long sitting area where you can people watch, dance, etc. plus the adult shows in the Comedy club are great as well as the piano bar...and the dance club..

That sounds like just what I'm looking for...and as far as kids go, no worries here. As long as they are someone else's! I love being a dad but I sure could use a break.

  6. My wife and I are taking a 5 nighter on the Triumph next July. Will be our first trip since having our little one last year so we are really looking forward to cutting loose and having a good time partying. We figured the Triumph would be geared more towards this crowd than the Magic - are we correct? Booked a Lido balcony so we will be right in the middle of the action! Even though it's almost 8 months away, the idea of a few childless days to sleep in and drink like a fish have me super excited!!

  7. I really appreciate all your responses! Lots of really good insight and many things to think about. I think we are leaning towards taking a short 3-day cruise with just the two of us to use up the credit we have and then doing a land vacation with the little one. I felt like the walls were closing in on me in our cabin without a crib, etc. lol.

  8. Am I insane? We tried for 15 years to have this little angel of ours my wife and I aren't sure we can handle a week without her but we REALLY need a vacation.

Guess we want to know if it is even relaxing to take an 18 month old baby on a cruise? She's a really chilled out, happy baby for the most part - active, curious and good with people in general.

I don't think she's old enough for the Carnival Club so we understand it's going to be a different kind of cruise..no nightlife, shows, etc. That's totally cool with us - everything is different now! It just seems like a long time to be without her.

lol...I posted this almost two years ago. still trying to reschedule!!

Thank you :-) I just watched your video .. do you think that you could get a regular chair and a lounge chair out there ??? if we put the lounge chair length wise ???

I don't think that would work..balcony is same size as a regular balcony. Even if you were able to, don't think there would be any extra room to move.

  10. Thank you all!!

Just re-booked our cruise for June 22, 2014. My countdown calendar went from 116 to 490!

Not sure I've ever planned something that far in advance!! At this point we're planning on just the two of us going - will be a good break I'm sure.

Thanks again for everyone's thoughts and prayers - we've got lots of people sending good vibes our way and every bit helps!!

  11. All good go with you, and much happiness to your family ~ :)

Possibly the cruise planning? Our Son and DIL were in the same "boat" :D

They decided to buy a ski boat.......then Surprise! They now have a happy, healthy 2 year old son, almost old enough to enjoy a Disney Cruise with Gramps and Gammie! :)

That's so funny! We had finally given up after 15 years of trying and were going to take a cruise then start classes to adopt from CPS. Then it just happened...a miracle...I now believe everyone who says it will happen just when you quit trying!!!! Still seems so unbelievable to both of us.

Thanks so much for all the kind words!!

  12. I'm so glad everything is going well!

My husband and I took a cruise when our son was about a 10 months. It was wonderful. I did miss him, but he enjoyed his time with the grandparents and we enjoyed our time together. I did miss him terribly, but we called home from a couple of ports and I don't think he missed us near as much!

    Go, have a great time!

I think that we'll do the same. My parents have been wanting a grand baby for a long time so won't be hard to get a babysitter!

After the Triumph issues I just don't think I want to bring such a little guy (or girl).

    Thanks so much!!!

  13. Update: We're nine weeks along and everything is going GREAT!!! Baby growing fine and mother moody as hell! I'm minding my P's and Q's.

We're rescheduling our cruise for next June..based on the due date our little one should be around 9 months old. Seems way too young to take along but I wanted to see what some more experienced parents thought.

We're just so happy it's ridiculous.

  14. Op - I wish you and your DW all the best.

Everyone is different but isn't it a little early to be sharing this good news especially after your long wait?

I am not being nasty but each pregnancy is long and drawn out ( unless you are on "I didn't know I was pregnant":D).

I expect negative comments for saying this but please believe me that announcing very early only increases outside pressures.

Perhaps I am way off and you are only using the anonymity of CC to discuss this. If so, good!

    Good luck.

I really only posted this because I was wondering about the cancellation. Guess part of me did want to tell some people too! :D

We're trying not to let anyone know until we're a little further down the road as we have had such a difficult time.

I have to say...everyone's reaction and kind words has really made our day. Thank you all so much!!

  15. After 15 years of trying my wife is pregnant!!!! We are so happy I can't even express but.....we have a cruise booked in June.

She's going to be right up against the 24 week cutoff for pregnant women. We really don't want to risk anything happening regardless of whether she's over the limit or not...it's been such a long hard struggle we are not into taking any risks.

We booked Early Saver so should I just expect to eat the $500 deposit or can it be used for a rescheduled cruise...maybe next year?
