  1. Amazon is a better place to find those. Fake shampoo, rum runners, wine recorking and shrinkwrap. Lots of good methods that are cheap and all work very well.

I’m so confused - fake shampoo? What’s a rum runner? Couldn’t care less if anyone smuggles alcohol, but I don’t know what any of these things are and am curious. I guess I could just go look on Amazon...

  2. Beachbum- you could well be right, but if not visible, the attendants should be challenging those people to produce it, not just assume that they have it tucked away somewhere. Worse yet, if there's no one even there to challenge them that's not right.

Yes, I have no issue whatsoever with someone not wearing their wristband. That is their right and no one should be uncomfortable on their vacation. We are on day 5 on an 8-day trip. At this point, we all know each other. The wristbands are not really necessary at this point. My issue is that there is so often simply no one watching the area to make sure that non-Havana guests are not using it.

  3. I’m surprised by these responses; the Havana area — whether underutilized or not — is advertised and priced as an “exclusive” section of the ship. If I’m paying for this, I think it’s reasonable to expect enforcement of this exclusivity, to be frustrated if it is not, and to expect folks to abide by conditions of use (i.e., wearing the bracelet).

I’m sorry you are disappointed and that Carnival has not responded in a helpful way. I’d take it up the chain were I you.

Thanks, RebelAthena. I don’t think it’s unreasonable either. And I don’t mean to imply that it’s not enforced at all - it is. Just not enough.

  4. I could see this problem coming. "I'm cruising with my friends who don't have a Havana cabin. I paid all that extra so absolutely should be able to invite whoever I want into the Havana pool area." Carnival cruisers at their best.

Oddly enough this seems to be people who have wandered in on their own without friends. Your sentiment is what I had thought might be the case as well.

  5. You may not wear it but you should have it with you. Or your cabin key to prove you are allowed to be there.

To the OP: I would tell the door guard anytime you see someone out there without a wrist band so they can investigate. You paid all the extra money for a reason.

Thanks, I have. Unfortunately the door guards seem to wander off quite a bit. Some are better than others. When I mentioned the issue at the Pursar’s desk they told me it was the responsibility of the bartenders, the housekeeping staff on the deck, as well as the door guard. It doesn’t seem right to ask the always-busy bartenders and housekeeping staff to investigate when the door guard’s solo duty seems to be guarding the door.

Oh well. First problems and all that.

  6. Is there any way to get up to the Sky Bar if one has mobility/breathing issues? Looking at the map of the Amber Cove port I don't think his breathing will make the walk up to it possible for him.

It looked like a cool place to hang out

I’d like to know the answer to this as well. My sister has MS and we have a hillside cabana booked. I understand that this is close to the SkyBar that we’d also like to visit. I’m concerned that the climb will be too much for her, though.

  7. We stayed in 5201 on the Vista last summer. The cabin was great. It does share a wall, but it is far enough away that you do not hear anything out of the norm or an annoyance. There is a door that separates the hallway and Ocean Plaza/public areas, it does help block out noise you hear in public areas.

Assuming the Horizon is set up the same...

It is a very convenient location and I would not hesitate to stay there again. We are booked again on the Vista this summer and 5201 was already booked, so we picked another cabin on the same side. If it would have been available I would have booked the cabin again. Enjoy the Horizon, the Havana area is well worth it.

The suites mentioned in the previous post are closer to the Havana pool and bar, than 5201. The bar hosts a live band in the evening, and I agree the suite would hear it more. But it was not an issue for us in 5201.

Contrary to what a lot of people comment on, there is no issue with privacy. We spent plenty of time on our lanai, with very few people walking by because of the locked gates that separate the public areas from the Havana area.:):) I know there is very little info. out there on this cabin, so I hope this helps.

Thank you so much! This is exactly the information that I needed! I just couldn’t tell from the deck plans whether or not we would be able to hear the music late at night from the Ocean Plaza, so I really needed someone with first-hand experience. We had a bad experience on the Glory a few years back with a room directly over the lounge. Stupid mistake choosing room on my part.

  8. Look up "Jim Zim" on google - he did a report here on Cruise Critic and also a video on Carnival Vista. He complained about the terrible noise in their Havana Cabana suite - he says his exact room number on the video so you can see from his experience what it was like based on location.

Thanks, I saw his post and video, which was one of the reasons why I was concerned. It seems that the suites and insides can hear the noise from the Havana Bar since they share a wall with the bar. I was hoping that this wouldn’t be the case with the Havana Cabana that we have booked. Thanks again!

  9. There are a few threads here discussing the Oosterdam and Konsingdam tvs. It seems that the DVD players in rooms are a thing of the past. Does anyone know if they are still available on the Nieuw Amsterdam? We sail in 3 weeks and I'm trying to figure out if I should bring a portable DVD player with me. Thanks!

  10. Currently booked in an SS cabin on the April 2 Nieuw Amsterdam. As of yesterday there were still 11 Neptune Suites available and a handful of Signatures. Today both categories are showing as sold out. Does anyone know if HAL shows categories as sold out while they are contacting people with upsell offers, or is it more likely that they assigned all the guarantees and these categories truly are sold out? Clearly I'm hoping for an upsell offer to a Neptune but will be happy in our Signature if it doesn't happen.
