  1. Good day all, cruising in a few weeks on the Norwegian Dawn and was wondering if anyone who has recently sailed on board, do they provide deck chairs on the promenade deck? It's my favorite spot on the ship, but I believe for safety reasons they limit or completely remove the loungers all together. Thanks in advance!

  2.

Good day all! I have been assigned Cabin 8661 on the Dawn which is located aft and above the Bliss Lounge. Anyone have any experience with a cabin in this area? Is there any extraneous noise coming from Bliss?

We were once in a cabin above the theater, and while we could here the music from the shows, it sounded very distant, so I am hoping the same for Bliss.

    Thanks in advance!

  3. Thank you all for your responses and attached photo's!

It was explained to me somewhat recently that in the event of an emergency that the lifeboats would need to be deployed having deck chairs out there could cause an obstruction, and the time it would take deck hands to remove the chairs etc, their time and efforts would and could be better suited elsewhere in the emergency rather than moving deck chairs around. I have noticed even prior to covid less chairs on the promenade decks and sometimes removed all together on various cruise lines.

    Thanks again all! Safe travels!

  4. Good day all, I hope this finds everyone well. Simple and silly question, I love my promenade deck chairs; I know for safety reasons understandably, these have all but been eliminated, although sometimes, they are still out there. So for those that have cruised recently on the Mariner, do they still provide deck chairs on the promenade deck? It's my favorite spot on the ship.  I was even considering bring my own portable folding chair.

    Thanks all!

  5. We stayed in a room comparable, the very front of the ship on deck 8, (the front row of cabins); in all honesty, probably my least favorite of being assigned a Gty room which we have done multiple times. Where you are though, I am confident in saying you will not hear any noise from the theater, you may feel some movement of the ship if the seas are in excess of 10ft, I think though you will most certainly hear the anchor dropping if you have a tender port. That being said, and I now see the date of your original post, you can probably answer this question better than I at this point! Lol.

Hope this helps, if not you then someone.

    Happy sailing!

  6. I always pre-order my soda package; prior to 2018 we always received a cup with each package in our stateroom on the first day. On a sailing in March of 2018 on the Gem we did not receive the cups and were told by guest services they are not offering them anymore if you pre-ordered them online (even though on the website it mentions the cup being part of the package); after I wrote a letter to the Hotel Director I was told I could pick up the cups at the Atrium Cafe'. Pretty round about way in getting our cups. Am sailing in a few weeks, we will see what happens this time.

  7. I remember our first NCL cruise and felt they tried to nickel and dime you every chance they could... I hated that, but have been back a few times since and have learned to accept it. So my advice is this; go in knowing they are going to try to nickel and dime you and ignore it and have a good time. It really is a lovely way to travel. Bermuda is my girlfriend and I's favorite vacation destination. Enjoy!

  8. Power strip that os UL certified but not a surge suppressor. Bring extra hangers.

Extra hangers are not necessary... simply ask your cabin steward if you feel you need more hangers, they will easily provide them for you.

  9. Our check in time on our edocs for New York is at 12pm, what time should we plan to arrive at the dock? We are staying in New York (near Times Square) the night before and getting a taxi and was trying to work out what time to book it for. Any advice welcome.

    Thanks in advance.

Generally speaking, if the Gem arrives from it's previous trip by around 7am or 8am; they tend to board around 11am - noon. If the ship arrives from the previous cruise at 10am as it has done in the recent past; do not arrive before 1pm.

When we go, we generally try to get to the pier around 11am - noon; this will allow time for traffic, crowds, and incidentals.

We are taking a trip on the Gem this coming fall, we have been on her a few times, so this time around I may try to get there around 1pm - 2pm, hopefully that will allow for the early crowds to dissipate.

Also, the "Check-In" time is pretty arbitrary, they do not adhere to that at all. More than likely your checkout time for the hotel is 11am; leave then for the pier; any sooner and you will be sitting at the pier waiting.

If you are excited and want to get your cruise experience started, you can arrive at 10am, check in, wait, and be one of the earlier groups allowed on board.

Hope all this information helps and gives you some insight!

    Happy voyage!

  10. On 2 occasions, one on the Breakaway, another on the Gem, the ship was scheduled to return at 10am, and on both occasions the ship was basically docked by 8am. Now this is only my experience. Once docked, we did the easy walk off and were off the ship by 8:45am or so.

If it were me scheduling a ride, I would say 10 or 10:30 would be a good time.

Hope it works out for you!

  11. Reviews I have read elsewhere (TA) did not make this seem too promising.

From what the reviews implied the beach was not the cleanest, it can get quite crowded, the merchants hawk their wares to no end you have to pay for everything, meals, drinks, etc.

The dolphin swim from what I read make it seem you get a 30 min free swim with the dolphins, but then they went on to say that you basically stand in 3ft of water and watch the dolphins.

I hope someone here has first hand experience they can share, but from what I read, it seemed like it left a little bit to be desired.

  12. Thank you all for your kind responses and input; it seems a ship this large my two options are Solarium and 270 for quiet relaxation! We prefer to lay out in the sun outside in the adults only sun decks.

Not sure what we are going to do. We did the Breakaway once and vowed never again; the Anthem seems very similar... as a point of reference we love the Gem.

    Anyhow, something to think about...

Thank you all once again for taking the time.

    Happy Sailing!

  13. Good day all, my gf and I are considering a fall cruise on the Anthem and are wondering, will we be able to relax and enjoy ourselves? While all the bells and whistles (gimmicks, ifly's, northstar etc) are mildly interesting to us, we mostly want to sit in the sun, relax, enjoy some shows (without reservations), enjoy the evening entertainment.

This seems mostly like an amusement park at sea, and I am not sure this is what we are looking for.

    Thoughts & Thanks!

  14. My gf and I have been to Blue Lagoon a few times, and there were multiple ships in port; I can't say I ever remember going to Blue Lagoon thinking "wow this is way crowded"

The most popular spot is at the small bay, but if you walk behind all that (as you are looking at the bay, behind you) there is a quiet beach on the ocean side, the swimming is a little rough and rocky, but the beach is a little quieter and we're not usually bothered there.
