1. I will be on a CA Coastal cruise in October which stops in San Diego. I'm interested in going to the Gaslamp District. Does anyone know how far it is from the cruise terminal (blocks), can you walk there or do you need to take the trolley. If the trolley is used, do you know where you would catch it?

    Thanks for your help.

  2. We bit the bullet and booked the 28 day Hawaii, Tahiti and Samoa cruise for October of 2017. Not only did we get the sip and sail promotion and a hefty discount and OBC, but we got an upgrade from a Riviera deck balcony to a Caribe deck balcony!

The flip side of this coin is that we may not be able to cruise until then as it's a very expensive cruise. But it will be so worth it!

Good going!! You will love that cruise. I did it the first year it was offered and at that time, it was actually reasonably priced. I want to do it again, but the price is way too high for me now. Have fun!!

  3. You can turn your Speciality dinner into OBC and then book the dining option of your choice. We did it on the Ruby in June so that we could try Share. Our sons decided not to do speciality dining at all. They just got the OBC and applied it to their shipboard account.

By the way, we enjoyed Share very much.

    Cheers, Denise

Was the specialty dining a promotion through the cruise line? My TA gifted me a specialty dinner on a Crown cruise last November and, since I was sailing solo, I didn't want to use it, but they would not allow me to turn it in for OBC.

  4. We have always been given 2 bottles of there sparkling wine at sail away alone with some peanuts.

Well, double bummer!! Not only have I never gotten the little bottles of sparking wine, but now I'm told I've been missing out on the peanuts

Well, I'm due to cruise in October, so we'll see . . .

  5. No it has been around for several years. You will be given two single serving bottles of Korbel for your welcome gift.

    Mike:)

Well shoot! I've gotten the glass of sparking wine for being in a mini, but have never seen the single serve bottles in the minibar either in a suite or as a elite. From other's responses, must be a hit or miss kind of thing.

  6. You can also call room service and they will swap out items for like items. You prefer bourbon instead of vodka? BTW, there were two small, individual bottles of sparking wine in your refrigerator. Would have been nice for the sail away but we didn't find it till the next day.

Is the sparking wine something new? I've never gotten it in the minibar set up.

  7. I have used Super Shuttle to get from my house to my airport, but I notice their price to get from San Pedro cruise terminal to LAX is much higher.

I also checked PrimeTime and their price is much more reasonable. Is PrimeTime reliable -- I have never used them. Are they easy to find at the cruise terminal?

  8. I've always been in Dolphin deck minis and have no problem with the uncovered balcony. What I do like about the minis are the bathtub and especially the sofa. The balcony cabins only have one chair so I find that's not a good set up for two people.

  9. I have brought on more than the allotted two per cabin and before boarding the ship they checked and charged for the overage. They also marked the bottles so you could take them to the MDR or specialty restaurants and will not be charged another corkage fee. But there will be two they will not mark, so be sure to drink those in your cabin to avoid the corkage fee. Just be sure to carry your wine on -- do not place them in your checked luggage.

  10. Congratulations! You will be one happy cruiser!

I have sailed on the Island in D630 (which is a suite on the other side of the ship). This was pre dry dock where they made all those changes.

At that time, the balcony did have 2 wooden loungers with cushions and also two wooden chairs and a table. And the balcony was covered -- big plus in my opinion.

The only weird thing about the Island as opposed to most other Princess ships is the Horizon Court buffet is in the front of the ship instead of the rear. So you have a long walk to get to the buffet.

    I'd say "You done good!"

  11. I did my first solo cruise last year and while chatting on the CC roll call, found another solo cruiser. We met up onboard and got along great. So great, in fact, we're cruising (same cruise, separate cabins) again in October. It was nice to have someone to have dinner with, although we also joined others during anytime dining. But it was also nice to have time to do our own things.

  12. Overall, did you really save money over the single supplement, since the 3rd and 4th passenger in the same cabin is usually considerably cheaper than the first and second passengers?

As far as gratuities go, they are a per person per day charge on your shipboard account, so it doesn't matter who is in what cabin -- unless you have mini suites or full suites.

  13. I notice the Emerald has a Café Caribe on Lido deck. It's just next to the Horizon, but when I was on the Crown last year, I found that Café Caribe is much less crowded than the Horizon. They have a separate serving section, which does not have as many offerings as the Horizon, but you can get your plate filled in the Horizon serving line and then go back and sit in the Café Caribe section.

  14. I also booked under that promotion. When I go into my cruise personalizer online, I do not see any mention of the specialty dining credit. However, it is shown on the Booking Confirmation that I received from Princess and also on my TA's confirmation.

  15. The only difference in the minis on Emerald and Dolphin is that the balconies on Dolphin are uncovered and on Emerald deck they are covered. I hope your TA did not move you from an Emerald deck mini on the starboard side. I have stayed in them before and there was no noise from the nightclub. On the port side, you are right above the stage, so it may cause a problem.

  16. You can get regular soy milk in the buffet just by asking or in the main dining room. Also can have it from room service in the morning by adding it to the hang tag order form. I don't know about the soy almond milk.

  17. We will have the beverage package on our upcoming cruise (from the Sip and Sail promotion.) Will we be able to order any drink and run it through the package, or do they just offer the drink specials??

You would be able to order any drink your little heart desires. I usually get a bottle of wine and they keep pouring every day. That's my plan and it works for me :)

  18.
The only thing that I ask when cruising solo (and I think it's a fair request) is that if I am paying double, I should get the benefits for 2 people. I should get to bring 2 bottles of wine onboard, if there is an obc pp then I should get it for 2 and I should get double credit for days cruised ( I know pro fess does this but HAL does not)
Are you allowed to bring 2 bottles of wine onboard Princess as a solo? I know you do get the double OBC and credit days, but didn't know about the wine.
