Not sure I’d switch just to try another mass market cruise line but would definitely look at other for unique experiences or itineraries. Definitely want to try Azamara for a European cruise.

Definitely try Azamara. We are not frequent cruisers, and have mainly cruised on Royal. We took an Azamara European cruise last year, and it was fabulous. Reminded us of our first cruise we took on Royal back in the early 90’s. Food and service were excellent. Very friendly crew. Because they’re smaller ships they tend to be able to dock at the most convenient ports in the city. Highly recommend it!

Our daughter  has tested positive, and grappling with feelings of guilt over who she might have infected before she was aware. So far, our grandsons are fine. We will drop off supplies and a meal (with treats) to leave outside their door later today. Stay well everyone.

So sorry about your daughter. Hoping she recovers quickly, and your grandsons stay well.

  3. I Live in NY (Long Island, just outside of N.Y. City). Our area has been hid very hard, lots of cases. We have been staying in our house, as have most people. My husband is working from home. One of his co-workers does have the virus, but fortunately it has now been 2 weeks since he has seen them so looks like he has escaped this time. I have a good amount of food at home. I haven’t gone out to a food store in 2 weeks. I placed a delivery order, first date I could get is next week. I usually take care of my grandkids while my daughter works, but she has been working from home now so I haven’t seen them since last Thursday, and I miss them (and they miss me), but their health is of paramount importance. My other sons and their families live in Virginia, so we won’t be able to see them for awhile. 😕 My niece is a first year medical resident, who now is working 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. Wishing everyone good health. HGC, I hope your son-in-law continues to feel better. Be well!

  4. We did the Tattoo this August while on a cruise on the Journey. We bought the tickets on our own from the Tattoo’s website. We took the bus, which was easy. We followed Uktog’s advice she gave on a thread of where to get the bus afterwards, it was very easy.
We did not have premium seats, but our seats were very good, and under $100 US a piece. It was a fabulous experience!

  5. We did the Military Tattoo this past summer when on a cruise with Azamara. We docked in Leith (not sure which port Crystal docks at.) We took a bus from right outside the cruise port. It was about a 15 minute bus ride, and a few minutes walk from where the bus stopped. We bought the tickets directly on the Tattoo site. We took the bus back afterwards also. We were not concerned about getting back to the ship quickly as we were overnighting in Edinburgh  we had what I thought were pretty decent seats and they were about $70 each.

  6. We just finished our first Azamara cruise on the Journey. We really liked it. For the most part, I thought the food was very good. The buffets are not as big as on Celebrity or Royal. Really liked the patio (grill dining area). We never waited for a table (2 top, ate around 8pm) but did see some large groups waiting. I thought the service was great. I saw the captain more than on any other cruise. I liked the entertainment, but it’s definitely not big production shows. We really enjoyed the Azamazing evening and the white night, and the long times in ports. We got what we considered a very good deal, but we stayed in an inside cabin, which was small but worked fine for us. I was not sure I would like the small ship after sailing the mega-ships, but I really did.  For the right price, and right itinerary, I would definitely sail Azamara again.

I believe they are looking at alternatives given the various forecasts.  Its so hard, finding a night in port that meets with the approval of the weather gods and is not going to impact on too many excursions e.g. the tattoo.

We were at the tattoo last night, it was fabulous but as the Castle esplanade is high up and exposed it is windy and of course no cover so tell anyone going to wrap up well but ta wonderful spectacle awaits them.

Great, thanks for this info. We are going to the Tattoo on Tuesday night, can’t wait! Will definitely plan on bundling up!

Yes they should be good, at least we are in warmer weather which hopefully removes some of the uncertainties.  I hear that because of timings on a current cruise there is likely to be a white night in Edinburgh this week - hope folks have packed some jackets!

I am currently on the Journey, and the white night is scheduled for Wednesday in Edinburgh. The forecast I see calls for rain in the evening, so I’m not too optimistic of it being a nice night!
