  1. When we sailed the Elation this past summer, we went in one of the gift shops and saw the flowers and we couldn't get over how beautiful and full/big they were. I was so tempted to buy some (or order some to be delivered to my parents room on our upcoming cruise) but I hate that you can't take them off with you.

  2. So wanted to update you guys, we got their birth certificates, a notarized letter from Dad, custody papers and everything for my nephew and niece that we took this past summer, and they didn't ask for any of it. This was at New Orleans.

We are going to surprise them again this Christmas, and I'm going to gather everything up again, this time we'll be going out of Galveston, so I'm eager to see if it's any different (I guess it all depends on who is checking you in)

  3. I think I decided to surprise the nephew and niece this Christmas, I'm going to make a clue puzzle or something (either a broken up sentence, or using picture clues, I'm not sure yet) and put each piece in a balloon and then blow them all up and even some that won't have anything in them, and put them all under the Christmas tree.

Hopefully, they will have a lot of loud wild fun popping all the balloons , then getting all the clues together and putting that together to figure out what the surprise is.

I hope this makes sense :D

  4. We did a scavenger hunt this past Christmas for my nephew and niece (teens) and used items that they will use on the cruise. It was so fun and their reaction was worth every bit of planning!

We are hoping to surprise them again this Christmas (we told them last year that it was probably going to be a one time deal, but after how much they enjoyed the cruise, we HAVE GOT to take them again!!) I'm looking for a new idea for this Christmas, can't wait to see what you guys come up with!

  5. We just sailed we my daughters best friend and she is 17. She had a valid passport and we got the carnival parental consent letter notarized. We did have to show the letter at check in and they made a copy and then returned the original letter to me. Check in was maybe 30 seconds longer.

On the boat I treated her as my own children. I told them all that they had $40 on their sail and sign accounts and they should let me know when they want more. I did not actually restrict their account in any way and I just checked the balance on the TV daily. We had no trouble at all, it was a smooth sailing.

Where did you find the Carnival parental consent letter? I called and they told me to just make my own

  6. As long as he has full custody, it is fine (though you may want to carry a copy of his custody papers with you).

I was afraid someone was going to say that. He's giving me a notarized letter and their original Birth Certificates (they never go anywhere, so they don't have passports) but for some reason, in the past, when talking to him or my sister about the divorce, child support, anything even remotely related to all of that, it's like some top secret mission that we aren't allowed access to. I am REALLY dreading having to ask. I have told him that the day we board, he needs to be by his phone and a fax machine just in case.. but part of me (the part that is always prepared and usually over prepared) just wants the dang copy, but I'm hesitant that he'll just say forget the whole thing and go to Disney World (that was our other choice)

    Ahh, decisions, decisions!

  7. Eek.. we're taking our nephew and niece on a cruise this coming summer. I gave their dad (my ex-brother-in-law) a form to fill out and get notarized giving us permission to have them, medical, sign them up for things, excursions, safety, everything i could possibly think of, and we'll have their original birth certificates..

He has full custody.. so do you all think I'm good with what I have? Their mom (my sister) is now remarried with a different last name, and honestly, I'd rather not get her involved if I don't have too. :(

  8. We've gotten inside both times. We talked about getting an oceanview or a room with a verandah but we just can't justify the cost difference. We slept at night in our rooms, ate breakfast some mornings (room service) and came back to take about 1-2 hour break/change for dinner/etc. once a night. In the future, we'll also be booking an interior on Disney (unless we do go to Alaska, then I want to be able to have a full time view outside)

I really just wish they would let me stay on Deck 4 as if that was my own private personal room... you just can't beat that view and the peacefulness you get there. :D
